I really like your approach to plant based eating. It's not about being perfect, it's about the majority of food that you consume. I have a similar approach and especially when in a different country where you're not in your own culture, it's more difficult and you also don't want to be rude if someone offers you food made from animal products. I also really don't like gate keeping and am put off by vegans who say you have to be perfect in order for your efforts to matter. This all or nothing mentality is not helpful and very discouraging to people who don't want to or can't be 100% vegan but make an effort to eat mostly plant based. If more people eat mostly plant based but eat a few animal products here or there it has a way bigger impact on animal welfare and the environment than fewer people being 100% vegan.

I wanted to comment something similar but you basically said everything I was going to say :)
I think it's very important that plant based eating is accessible for everyone and I can't stand when people are getting rude or mean to others from their own community, because we all want the same - reducing animal harm. And if some people get so strict and uncompromising about this topic, they will just scare others off instead of inviting them in. Thats really the wrong approach. Just be kind to each other and be happy that there are people who care and let's hope that even more people will. We have to stick together babes 💛

You do you babe! You are a very healthy and creative person with food. If you have a glass of milk or egg once in a while Im not gonna judge you for it. I also dont eat dairy most of the time, but sometimes I will have it. I am not vegan but I understand. thank you for your wonderful content. :)

Thank you for sharing the experience re not being a ‘perfect’ vegan by accepting the kefir given to you. I recently ordered takeaway whilst travelling abroad and there was cheese on the veggies (even though it wasn’t listed in the ingredients) and I felt guilty momentarily but in the end I still ate it because I hate wasting food + that wouldn’t have been environmentally conscious anyway (which goes against what veganism stands for)..
We can achieve a greater impact if more people simply incorporate a few plant based meals in their week than if they’re scared off to even try because of the pressure by militant vegans to go 100%. As you say it’s about the bigger picture/your overall intentions and ultimately doing what you can in whatever given circumstance. 🌱

I just brought a rice cooker, 3 cup but need to order 6 cup one. I brought it for quick breakfast, I cook soup in it, steam veggies in it. I got it for when we visit people. Also, they sale shelf stable tofu. It tastes pretty good. I found it when we had the hurricanes and no refrigerator. I make all my mayo and vegan versions of sour cream. Makes great deserts the soft one. Use the firm for vegan version of regatta cheese for lasagna. I agree with you, food is shared, it would have been rude to not accept it. Example I went to church and this older lady made chicken a dumpling, for scratch for me. It really was delicious, but I ate it and every potluck or dinner the church had she made it, and I ate it. It would have hurt her feeling and been rude had I not. People show love through food sometimes. I am happy I did she passed away and was so proud she could make it. Sometimes you need to be kind and know that it is not going to kill you or hurt you. Peace!

Julia, I love you you helped me through my plant based journey. But your insta story and comment about the current situation with G/a/z/a is very disappointing... it shows that you didn't really educate yourself about it and just talked out of ignorance... how could you say "free is're'al" when it's committing crimes, geno*cide and et*hnic cleansing??

Yes, I watch you Julia because you and I have similar cooking styles and I get some great recipe inspo from you. But I think you, as many vegans have at some point, have internalized some of that people pleasing mindset of not wanting to come across as the rude, angry vegan.
However, it's important to remember that veganism is a movement for the animals and we have to stay strong in our convictions, even when social pressure makes that tough.
Not trying to be judgemental, just hope you land on the side of the strong willed vegans soon enough.
