I really don't understand his attitude on second scoping. It's a legit strategy, that as he himself demonstrated does work to very high levels. It just comes across as insecure which is odd because he's clearly a very good Sniper.
One thing stoics are often neglect is that ‘will power’ is an abstract construct. People break, bodily systems break, mindsets break. Being near the end, caring for yourself, preparing, testing yourself, and other such things are important. You reaped the benefits of what you have cultivated, had an end in sight, had a considerable incentive for completing this challenge, and faced the consequences of ignoring your body. The mind, and the will, are not closed systems, they are emergent. I think it’s really cool that you decide not to go quite so hard (or at least so long) next time you do one of these challenges. Also RIP elmaxo’s new fan. True LoL player moment!
@@yohanscold2149 regarding my ‘criticism’ or my own position? With respect to the criticism, it’s not a criticism of stoics so much as it is a criticism of some rhetoric that surrounds stoicism in the popular consciousness. I specifically say ‘one thing stoics often neglect’, rather than ‘one thing stoicism fails to consider’, or ‘one things stoics neglect’. Regarding my position, I’m not really a stoic, but am sympathetic to nuanced conceptions of stoicism in light of the fact that an epicurean ideal is extremely difficult to attain in an unjust world. In other words, don’t take what I’m saying to be me giving a stoic position. It’s not my field, it’s far removed from the ethics I’m familiar with, which aligns more around Spinoza, buddhism, and deleuzoguattarianism, the latter of which is the only field I can claim to have some level of expertise on. Edit: Note that I didn’t think there was anything wrong with elmaxo’s view. I was actually more intending to compliment him on the way he engaged with his limits, and express that I’m really happy that he is gonna give them a little respect in the future lol. I tried to imply that he isn’t neglecting things that some self proclaimed stoics seem to want to neglect, or that they often don’t respect, instead focusing predominantly on a cultivation of will power in an abstract sense. Variety, incentive, free time, prior experience, and resolution are all allowed to play a part in the narrative, without reducing the gravity of his achievement. That being said, I’m not saying you’re at fault for misunderstanding, I can’t really claim I got my point off well.

The mix of progress analysis and self-reflection will always make for a compelling video. Crazy how energetic and conversational this video felt given it's nearly 5-hour length, tons of longer videos see people dialing it in and reading monotonously from a badly-edited script. The sheer number of appropriate clips plus this commentary is really great, plus the decision to intersperse some of the marathon training. I also really appreciated the openness about the production process, from the mental health struggles to the intentional seeking of narratives. The difference between "I wanted a whole progression for this Bing Soy shot but I got it on my second try, whoops" and the interactions with Seiran made the Seiran payoff much more fun. All in all, for how masochistic and silly this kind of video is, you manage to pull a lot of meaning into it, which makes this kind of video interesting, entertaining, and even a little bit inspiring, while remaining grounded in the realities of mental health and pressure. It's really a huge achievement and I hope you can feel that way upon reflection!
Exactly why this guy is awesome at this stuff, but wow the transphobia and racism his and other tf2 communities were subjected to was shocking and downright sad...
On Suijin, a lot of the map design can be explained by the fact it was originally an arena map that got converted into a koth map. It was never designed with koth in mind, it just got ported to koth because there's no way an arena map is officially making it into modern tf2 outside of halloween
sydney sleeper's extinguish mechanic doesn't have lag compensation for teammate hitboxes regardless of whether you're scoped in or not, so you have to aim ahead to extinguish teammates (does not require a headshot btw). hope this clears t he confusion! i have reported this bug to valve a couple of months back with instructions on how to fix it, so hopefully it's fixed in the summer update? who knows

@honest4460 you can adjust given just a bit of practice. even if you've been playing with that crutch for years, best to get rid of that disadvantage and begin the adjustment process as soon as possible rather than keep playing with it. of course, if you actually _like_ it, that's a different story and you should play how you want.
I think bro needs to do a 100 DAYS of medic and that’s something called HELL and this is fricking 5 hours of sniper that is hell if there’s a good sniper on the enemy team too
I can image when doing the 100 days of medic and him going "WHERE IS MY TEA!? AGH!" and "I F-ing hate sniper and spies, why do they exist and need to be removed!".
Hey El Maxo!! I wanted to addend something to the Hitmans Heatmaker section! You can jump out of scope while in focus, making the heatmaker incredible for dueling snipers. You can fire shots and immediately jump, or simply jump without firing. This is something no other sniper rifle can do. Great video, listened to it while driving 3 hours today. Really made the drive tolerable!
Your description and explaination of second scoping is almost an exact explaination for a fighting game term called footsies, which is the act of using movement and low commital options to fool your opponent into committing to an unsafe option that you can punish, its in pretty much every fighting game and hearing a similar game plan and idea in a shooter be called slimy made me laugh
3:28:41 DOVE GIB!!!1!1!!1!11 (For those unaware, there is like a 1% chance to get a dove to fly out of an exploded scout, which is a subtle reference to meet the medics end scene)
I think the sheer variety of playstyles for sniper is the reason you were able to push through a lot easier with sniper. Cozy Camper, Jarate, and SMG completely changes your positioning and the way you handle threats. It was awesome seeing you grow as a sniper player, and working on your aim, something that you used to suck at. I love these long-form videos because you're turning into a jack of all trades, focusing on each of your weak points in TF2 as a pseudo-new player.
The popularity of the Darwin's Danger Shield makes more sense when you consider that most players sit on 2fort. It's a lot more common for a pyro to dedicate themselves to just spamming the battlements the whole game.
The sydney sleeper and the Classic being next to each other made me laugh. Spy and sniper both have the skill ceiling like your roof got stolen by a hurricane. This was an experience.

19:35 As an ex sniper main, I'll always stand by rev'd up heavies being so hard to hit for literally no reason. They just radiate an anti-bullet aura and something about how they just randomly mash keys combined with their slow movement makes them so god damn hard to hit sometimes. Also, a little unknown upside of the heatmaker is while in focus, you can unscope and move IMMEDIATELY after shooting, while the only other rifle that can do that is the classic. You can also jump out of your scope after shooting, making it a great weapon to combat enemy snipers without needing to second scope.
I had to pause at 1:14:06 and comment because I have been playing a lot of sniper, and a lot of heatmaker, and I NEVER KNEW you didn't need a full bar. There are so many times I let that go to waste because I never bothered to check. Holy moly, thank you for adding this part in.

Nicely put
Elementary level understanding of stoicism.

One of the best last videos. Good luck to whatever you decide to pursue next.
It was never designed with koth in mind, it just got ported to koth because there's no way an arena map is officially making it into modern tf2 outside of halloween
sydney sleeper's extinguish mechanic doesn't have lag compensation for teammate hitboxes regardless of whether you're scoped in or not, so you have to aim ahead to extinguish teammates (does not require a headshot btw). hope this clears t he confusion! i have reported this bug to valve a couple of months back with instructions on how to fix it, so hopefully it's fixed in the summer update? who knows

I think the sheer variety of playstyles for sniper is the reason you were able to push through a lot easier with sniper. Cozy Camper, Jarate, and SMG completely changes your positioning and the way you handle threats.

Also, a little unknown upside of the heatmaker is while in focus, you can unscope and move IMMEDIATELY after shooting, while the only other rifle that can do that is the classic. You can also jump out of your scope after shooting, making it a great weapon to combat enemy snipers without needing to second scope.
