Excel Add-ins can get disabled when Excel crashes. There is a Disabled Items window on the Excel Options, Add-ins menu that will allow you to re-enable or reactivate the add-ins that have been disabled.

The Excel add-in that disappeared on me actually did not appear in the Disabled Add-in list, and it wasn't in the Add-Ins checklist, however, in the Add-Ins checklist, I clicked Browse and found the file for my add-in. Then it appeared in the checklist and I could check it to enable it. Thank you for making this video! It helped me navigate to the Add-Ins checklist in the first place.

Thanks Jon. Oftentimes, knowing where to navigate to make the necessary changes/fixes is quite elusive. It's useful to periodically view the settings in Excel that we likely don't use on a routine basis.

Recently I added an office 365 function (VSTACK) as an add-in into my worksheet and saved it in the same place (one drive documents), though it works at first but when I close and reopen the worksheet the add-in is messing somehow, though I haven't changed the location.
And when I want to reenable it through the add-in option it says (cannot find add-in) while the location is unchanged.

Thanks for the video! Spoke with a user who accidently deactived his addin. I couldnt find out why the addin didnt want to reactivate itself again..... Tried using revouninstaller etc.. but Disabled items was the key!

Thank you. Following your instructions, I added the Analysis Toolpak - VBA add-in. I expected to see the add-in menu opening, but nothing happened. I also opened the Add-In Manager in the Visual Basic menu, but it was blank. Please help.

just disable it and re-enable it. It worked for me!. for some reasons it just disappeared and this vid could not address that instance.

You may also have to restart the computer after removing an Excel add in if you have changed the location and want to reinstall it. Excel kept reverting back to the original folder location I first downloaded it to and installed it from. It was maddening. It must have kept the original location in a buffer area. Once I restarted the machine I was able to reinstall the Excel add in and the location was correct.

Hi, My friend has a built in addin which works well on his machine. I borrowed the excel and in one of the macros a add in was being used. I got the xlam file but it's still not running and showing FileName.xlam is missing, although FilaName is present in the location. Any insights what is causing this issue?? Do i need more files, i took only FileName.xlam file and copy pasted it

Hello Jon, I have enabled my addins correctly but its not working. When I rechecked, I found the addin is active, enabled also. After that when I open excel file, I could not get my custom addins to work!

Hi, I"m still having an issue with Powerpoint. The add-in button isn't showing up on the ribbon. The add-in is installed, it's not disabled, I've checked the unblock box in its settings, I've added its path to the trusted location, it shows up under active add-ins.
