I'm super interested in this because throughout history there have always been people who said they can feel when things are going to happen. They feel the emotions in the air.
7 or so years ago I had incredible sharp pain in the back of my head as soon as i got into bed and it was around 10 pm. hurt so bad i wanted to throw up and lasted a few minutes. next night around 10 pm my wife and i got into bed and i was scooting up against the head board to watch tv sitting up and I hit the wooden head board hard.. exact spot, exact pain and lasted just as long as the night before. I hit my head that the pain went back in time .
I relate to this. I swear every time i would go to a restaurant or fast food with my parents, a huge line would form behind us right after we get there. It happened almost every time. I figured it was just the time of day we went, but after a while I found it didn’t matter, we used to joke that everyone came because they heard our family was there😂
I'm mostly a rational, scientifically educated person but distinctly remember 9/11 (I live in the Netherlands, Europe). I was sitting on a terrace with a friend talking and all of a sudden there was.. Something. Sitting on a terrace in a shopping street there were no tv's or anything. But something was just different, more people were looking confused. We then paid and left and when I got home my mother was watching the burning building and a bit later the 2nd plane flew into the other one while we were watching live. I'm by no means saying this has some, currently thought of as metaphysical explanation. But somehow a sliver of that information managed to find us just randomly outside. We knew there was something big and not good just not what until we got home. I can come up with many rational ways this might have happened. Someone saw it, unconscious body language and stuff spread the "feeling" of "something's off" perhaps, but somehow that kinda sounds somewhat far reaching as well.
I remember here in South Africa switching on the t.v right after school to a news channel, which I never did before. I switched it on just after the first plane hit the north tower.
Back in the 90's I was working at a public library circulation desk. Over time we, the desk workers, noticed something really weird. We could be discussing some completely random and very obscure topic and a book about that topic would be returned would be returned within minutes. This happened many many times.
Funny that you should talk about your grocery store experience because when I was younger I often would walk into an empty shop and then 'randomly' more and more people would also start coming in. I want more woo-woo vids!

This will sound stupid, but I've noticed from years of studious observation that Thursday is "poop day." The stalls in work restrooms are fuller on Thurs. than on any other day of the week. Why do I notice this? Because I have a shy bladder, and I use the stalls for #1 as well as #2. Not only are our minds connected on a subconscious level, our butts are as well.
A noticeable number of people on Thursday; the other day is Sunday, a phenomena you cannot study. 'Butt', here it is - it's a matter of preparation. A majority of people go twice a week. At home on Sunday, a slow day with people in & out of the house (airflow) so you can relax at home. And this way you're 'ready' for the beginning of the week. Thursday, away from home ('man, am I glad I didn't let THAT off in the house..') and after, all ready for the weekend...

In the past it would have been very difficult to study such a thing. With modern technology it has become much easier to study. Though I wonder what if such a thing as a global consciousness is found to exist? What would that mean for each of us? Would we change our lives in any meaningful way? I'm not sure we would.
Have there been cases of deviation from random chance when no major or traumatic events occurred? Or have there been events that resulted in no noticeable reaction? What determines if an event is significant enough to then cross reference with the numbers from the Global Consciousness Project?
It's funny the way that a random number generator's deviation from random doesn't line up with the supposed cause.. Rather than see that for what it is, a time traveling psychic awareness is proposed. Doesn't Occam have a razor for this?
Strange thing that would happen to my mom and I, when I was a teenager and into my early twenties. We would go out to eat not at lunch time or a normal eating time, it could be any random time. The place had no other diners or just a couple. And within 10 minutes of us arriving and ordering, there would be large amounts of people coming to eat. Sometimes bewildering the wait staff or other employees 🤷♀️. They would say where are all these people coming from and why. 🙇♀️🤷♀️ After a while my mom and I would joke about it. 🤪😂 We would go to a restaurant nobody there, then before 10 minutes elapsed in time there would be another five or 7 other people coming in to get something to eat. 🤔🤷♀️ The staff acted like they weren't ready for it🙇♀️🙇♀️. So then we started asking the staff do you normally get busy around this time, they would tell us no. Then I did an experiment knowing that this happens to us, I decided to acknowledge it out loud right before we went into the restaurant. The restaurant stayed empty most of the time we were there no one else showed up.🤔
If you pay attention to people talking at parties or bars, they talk at the same time and stop together. Pulses in conversation... Might be linked to this idea.
Joe, I love this topic, i wish your videos were longer, i know your very busy and trust me your work is incredibly appreciated, even if once a month we got maybe a 20 - 40 minute feature video going into depth on one of the subjects discussed that month because i could have sat and watched this video for hours even lol
On the morning of 9/11 I was sitting down at my desk at work, and digging in to a big stack of files. But I felt like I should turn on the radio and listen to the news, though I tended to never do that as it slows down my work day if I'm not focused in the mornings. Literally that's the only time in my life I felt like that, though, as I never felt that kind of urgent, pulling thought before, and I haven't felt it since. So, that's hard to describe as I only felt it once. So fwiw, maybe it is possible that enough people thinking of the same thing, with the same emotional feeling (fear/worry/concern, whatever chemicals our bodies make that help us focus when we're frightened, and also help those around us pick up on whatever we're reacting to, and likewise take their own action), like the word "news", that some of us can feel that. I don't know... it's a lot to think about, but there's all kinds of things we don't understand about consciousness!
I remember coming home from work with a pizza. Eating pizza an looking on tv i was thinking that that the movie had very good special effects. And slowly i realized that it was real. And thats where my jaw droppet to the floor.
Awesome episode. I was 11 when the planes struck the buildings. I live in Sweden and that day I just got home and turned on the TV. I do not usually do that, I most of the times just head up to my room. I do not usually speculate over things like this, but it sure is weird.
Great video! I too, have spent a lot of time thinking about this topic. If we aren't connected consciously, we certainly are creating a global consciousness in the internet. I used to roll dice a lot when i was younger and always had a number in my head that i wanted to appear and more often then not when i was focused on the roll i would get the desired result. Of course i was young and knew without a doubt i was making it happen.

When a guy like me (always a critical thinker, career scientist, generally a skeptic on "paranormal" things) one morning wakes up in fright and sweating after a vivid dream about planes flying into high-rise buildings - so vivid that I wrote it down into a journal and even discussed my bizarre dream with my cat (TMI maybe but)...and it is exactly 4:30 AM EST on 9/11/01 - then "critical thinking" just doesnt apply anymore. I use to be afraid to talk about it as most people would call me a quack (so would I, normally). Nothing like that ever happened to me before, nor since. What it "means" I couldnt tell you. But years later when I found out that many many people had similar experiences..and then eventually learned about the GCP, I came to believe there is "something" going on. The one idea I have toyed with about the pre-attack spike, is that at that time for sure many people knew about the planned attack (and if you believe some conspiracy theories, half the US government). Maybe that conscious knowledge was somehow tapped into. Anyway, I have no real idea. But I know what happened to me. I am wondering if what we call "critical thinking" is indeed itself bound by the way we look at reality. Stuff like GCP, if there is indeed a connection, is maybe tapping into a different plane or reality than our usual way of applying critical thought can grasp. Perhaps we are simply too limited to see the necessary approach to understanding all this I use to agonize over and even "hate" the fact I had that dream. But actually I am happy now for it as it convinces me that the potential for human consciousness is far beyond what you or I can imagine in our limited modes of analyses and prespectives. Folks can call me nuts all they want :) I actually feel rather content about the experience, even fortunate that I was able to see that .."insight" (not the correct word but..). And btw I do not think there is anything particularly remarkable or more "conscious" etc about me than the average person. But it just happened Quite right that GCP is crude...and what it is not showing (nor could it I think) is what the correlation they are claiming really "means". This is the part that needs to be investigated IMO. Not just my probability researchers, but a host of other disciplines. IMO it is more important pursuit than so many others that dominate what the world spends time and resources on ...and could actually be our salvation. My faith is that one day, maybe in a few hundred years or more (if we dont destroy ourselves) people will look at work like GCP as very very crude but at least was scratching the surface of something that is just beyond our current capabilities as humans to understand.
I worked at a hardware store as a kid and noticed the same group sync anomaly. Large groups would all come in at the same time, despite hours of the day with an empty store. These surges never tied to weather or time of day. It seemed completely random. Because there was so much time when no one was at the store, I spent a lot of brain cycles trying to correlate the group sync anomaly. It’s been background processing in my brain for 15 years, and I still don’t have a working theory.
A scientist myself, I become very frustrated by scicommers stifling the curiosity of their followers by just laughing off topics like these. You always inspire thought & curiosity without making extraordinary claims or using misinformation. I really appreciate that about your channel. ❤️

Consciousness is a whole new branch of science like physics, that is obvious, why observer matters, how thinking effects randomness, how future events effect past like experimented in double slit experiment... Totally get it when you talked about the grocery store. I've worked foodservice for 15 years now and you notice all the time your selling a lot of a certain product. Like everyone in town wants spicy chicken all of a sudden, then the next day it's frosty like crazy. And what is it about cold weather that makes everyone want ice cream
The retail rush phenomenon(for lack of a better term) is something a lot of people have experienced. As a cart pusher, if there were 2 people and one went to break, customers would almost instantly start piling in. And then there are the times it's triggered by someone commenting on the pace of the customers. Sure enough, it would be like the water pulling away from the beach before a tidal wave. I make it a point to warn people that are new to retail about this. I also warn people that food stamp and social security days are days where they don't want to be shopping after 10am. I don't know what it is about our town, but it's like clockwork that people will start really coming in around 10am. I will say that humans are creatures of habit. If people are raised to follow certain habits, it will follow them through life without a second thought. There are WAY too many factors and variables to track easily, but the phenomenon is worth the research.
It's the same thing that tells you someones looking at you, from behind. You turn around and tada someones looking at you. Every brain has a transmitter that is on a frequency we have not discovered yet. From what I know of Alien encounters. They say they don't talk, yet can operate and work as a team. If there is ANY truth at all to these stories It tells us that once you reach a certain level of intelligence your brain basically turns into its own cell phone.
I like to believe in consciousness as the water cycle, we all come from an ocean of consciousness and then fall back to it like drops, and our job is to tell that ocean what we learned as drops PD: sry for my english, i think....?

Ok so... bear with me for a moment, this requires some thought... Inside every cell are small structures called organelle. Each different type of organelle perform different functions to keep the cell alive, without themselves being alive. Each one performs these functions as a reaction... with no awareness of the greater cell that they make up. Although some cells live entirely on their own, many cells live in groups that make up a whole. Each one of those cells perform specific tasks that benefit the larger being that they make up... i.e. brain cells fire, hart cells expand and contract, blood cells move nutrients... etc. They are not themselves conscious, but all of these cells, acting to keep up their own lives, can create a conscious whole... us. Does it stop there? Or is it possible that together we (acting as individuals) make up an even greater awareness? Could a city have a greater form of consciousness? A Country? A world?... The universe? Could it be that together we (combined with every thing else in the universe) cerate a form of awareness that we as individuals could no more understand than an organelle can understand our own awareness?
Just a quick question, here. Did they really run "millions" of tests? Or was it more like hundreds of thousands? I'm not trying to be a smart ass. Just trying to get a true grasp on the situation.
It was probably millions, we are taking about instruments used for quantum physics and classical physics. They want to prove their theories right or wrong to their best ability. I have no doubt they have the means to run millions of tests. I’m sure they did

If I've done my calculations correctly, that means close to 100 billion data points from EACH location.
my mom tells a story of when I was 3 years old, we where at my grandparents. she, grandma and grandpa went to visit someone down the street and left me with dad who fell asleep and I went for a walk on the road, I don't know why maybe looking for her. she tells it that all of a sudden she jumped up from her chain and shouted where is Dagan, on she way back to the house she left me in she found me at the end of the street just about to walk out onto a much bigger busier street. I am 40 years old now and this event still bothers her, she still tells it the same and cant explain why or how it happened. just thought I would share this.

I worked at a food court in a mall when I was younger. We had periods were no one was in line to order and then... boom, a large number of customers would show up at the same time. This happened over and over daily. Like, somehow, everyone got hungry at the same time in rushes. I thought the same things you did about it. It is hard to ignore when you notice it happening.
I'd really appreciate it, if you would take a second look at these PEAR studies. As already pointed out by others, there are some major flaws in their statistics and they basically saw what they wanted to see in these experiments. I was reallly disappointed when I looked at their data for myself. You could pack this into some vid where you explain why not to trust EVERY scientific paper, even when it got peer reviewed, published, etc. So for the sake of science and not confusing people: Point it out in a video or in the comments at least.

When we measure something, we alter it. okay, no machine can produce truly random numbers. it works according to structured laws governing electrical impulses. want a really random number for coin tosses. Wheel barrows, shovels, piles of quarters in vaults. dump them all off of skyscrapers, THEN count the difference between heads and tails. no one knows how many quarters were dropped until the tally is complete, and separate teams should only hear about results AFTER all of the accounting is done. Closest you'll ever get to a truly random number and pure results involving sufficiently high sample numbers.
I want to relate an incident which did raise questions about the power of intention. It doesn't prove anything but it does raise an interesting question. I used to make walking sticks and specifically chose sticks that had become naturally twisted by wild honeysuckle. However, I began to feel a bit of a vandal hacking off tree limbs so I stopped. A friend who was something of a "tree-hugger" suggested I "ask the trees" (a suggestion I immediately dismissed, not being fluent in Tree). But it did occur to me that maybe there was a way in which it could be a transaction that benefits the tree. As my preferred kind of branches always came from trees that were rather choked with honeysuckle, I could clear all the honeysuckle from the tree in return for my chosen branch. With that plan in mind, I set off for the woods with my dog, Fudge. She was a chocolate Labrador and I would describe her as generally obliging rather than obedient. Happy to oblige as long as it doesn't conflict with her own agenda... that sort of thing. I was expecting to collect no more than one or two sticks, given that I'd have to allow the time it takes to clear all the honeysuckle from the trees. It usually takes a long time just to find the right sticks as they're comparitively rare. As soo as we reached the woodland path, Fudge ran off into the undergrowth and wouldn't come when I called her. I could see her just sitting and staring at me but she wouldn't budge. So I tramped in after her to see what she was so interested in. As I approached, she ran off again and waited for me to catch up. She kept this up until she came to rest by a hazel tree pretty much smothered with honeysuckle. There were several branches I could have used but the deal my mind had settled on was one tree cleared for one branch. So I cleared the tree and selected the best branch. As soon as I had finished, Fudge ran off again and followed the same routine of running to the limit of my line of sight and waiting for me to catch up... until she came to rest at another tree tangled in honeysuckle. In all, she repeated this routine five times and each time led me to a tree that was covered in honeysuckle and, from each, I was able to harvest a nice twisted branch. I had collected the same number of good sticks I would normally have expected to collect in the same amount of time I would normally have taken to collect them. The time I would normally have spent looking for suitable trees was spent clearing the trees I had found. Sadly, I was unable to repeat this because Fudge's health was declining and the hill was too much of a challenge for her. Here are the questions I was left with: >Could my intention to clear trees have emitted a signal that trees could detect? >Could the trees have emitted a signal that Fudge could detect? We know that trees do emit signals to each other. That fact has already been established. We also know that animals emit chemical signals that convey information to other animals. So it is not beyond the realm of possibility that we convey far more information than we realise in our magnetic field or body odour or whatever. It's not beyond the realm of possibility that a dog (far more versed in detecting and interpreting signals than humans) could detect the 'help-needed-here' signals that may have been emitted by the trees. It's something to ponder.
+TheMJT4 Thanks! It's kinda sad, I do list videos every once in a while and they always perform well. But I try not to do them very often. You're right, it gets formulaic.
So, similar to Joe's story about the rushes at that store: I work at an escape room. There's some weird, and statistically verifiable stuff that goes on. We'll have people make some strange new mistake we've never seen before in 2+ years of operation (Interpreting a hint wrong or screwing up an easy puzzle in a specific way)... then in the following weeks, a dozen or so teams will make that same mistake... before it just stops and teams normalize. I always thought it was confirmation bias, and it had happened before, but we forgot about it until a few teams did it in a row, making us notice a trend, or that subtle variation in the setup of the room primed people to make those mistakes in some strange, subconscious way... But now I'm not entirely sure. We keep an immensely detailed set of records, so the trends are quite visible when looking back over them.
It's funny what he mentions at the end about being on shift and noticing strings of people coming in at exactly the same time, I noticed the same phenomenon where I worked, and it wasn't;t just at dinner rushes, but rather an hour before close, or 3 hours after open, random times, with groups of unconnected people.
On the topic of global consciousness, people may be interested and learning of sir Rodger Penrose and Stuart Hameroff's work with microtubules and Quantum fluctuations and how they may relate to consciousness.

I'd say at list 30% of our being is actually part of a social organism named human civilisation and now with all technology we finally got the chance to connect this global consciousness. I was talking to my fiancee about this yesterday. As a Philosopher I spend a lot of time in the realm of Abstract. I think reality has dimensions. And as someone who spends more time in Abstract than Physical, I often feel a sense of disconnect. After all, of we consider people like Buddha...have many not spoken of disconnecting from the physical and connecting to a universal intellogence ? Religions have spoken about God being All Knowing and All Wise. So clearly, there is something there and on some level we know it is there. What remains to be ascertained os is...what exactly is it that we are dealing with ?
+Joe Scott it is. Lately I've been having this odd idea that maybe the universe it's self is conscious. When looked at from a far the structure of the universe is spookily Simalar to that of a human brain. I imagine photons being Simalar to neurons firing, sending information or thoughts across the cosmos. Maybe we aren't so much in a simulation as we are in an imagination. Something to think about.
Your grocery store experience: perhaps people who are watching the same thing on TV leave their houses to go to the store during the same commercial breaks on the TV?
I work in a cabinet finishing shop. We do nothing but finishing and work for the same 5 or 6 competing manufacturers. Each one offering complete custom door styles and colors. as well as crown moldings etc. Patterns between our different clients just happen. One day we will get a different door style from one company and we just know that the next bunch of jobs will be the same. This would not seem so strange but it happens all of the time. It isn't just the flavor of the month. These styles and color schemes have been around for ever. When I see something new from one company, it repeats for weeks or months from completely different companies.
Interesting that bring up the grocery store rushes. I work at a grocery store too and have noticed that items that never really sale are hot for about 2 to 3 hours. It's crazy, we go a whole year without selling it and all of a sudden everyone goes crazy. If it were like 4 people I would say it's coincidence... but 17 sales in that short amount of time is crazy(I count these things now as I am aware of them).

Joe the pre spike is somewhat explained by the reed in the stream. As water flows past the reed the ripple in the water bulges before the reed. Highly emotional moments in the flow of consciousness/time are preceded by the first ripples of the impending event!
Funny you mention working in the store. I did the same when i was young and noticed the same. I concluded it was probably that the distribution of chance is, by nature, not equal. No global conscienceness needed.

At 4:41, Joe's patented Woo-Woo Alarm should have gone off at this point. Joe states here that "The double slit experiment for example showed that our conscious observation can change the behavior of subatomic particles". What Joe is describing is the collapse of the wave function into particles in the double slit experiment. Joe's comment of 'conscious observation' is not true. Consciousness does not collapse the wave function, measurement does. If a measurement device, such as a camera (which is not conscious) was used in the double slit experiment, the collapse of the wave function would still occur even if the recording from the camera is never viewed or destroyed. This is because the interaction, the measurement from the camera is what causes the wave function to collapse and not consciousness. On the double split experiment, particules get their state not because they're observed, but because they're measured. There has to be a PHYSICAL interaction.
jeromesnail I think youre wrong. You can measure an object without directly interacting with it. For example, using spectral analisys, you do not interact with a distant star to find out what elements it is made of.

@nick f Particle-wave duality though. If you think of the particle as a wave that is going through both slits at once (interfering with itself after the slits to create the pattern), measuring it at 1 slit means you are physically interacting with it.
Interesting story about people rushing to the store out of nowhere... I worked at a gas station and noticed a similar trend at times. And another thing, without fail nearly every time I'm driving and I come to a cross street or a T, any time of day or even midnight... The road could be completely dead for hours before or after I come to it but there is almost always SOMEONE right there at the EXACT time to have the right of way before me and going slow enough to annoy me. I started saying hi serendipitous person to myself whenever that happens. Also if traffic lights are supposedly 50/50 red or green.... Why are they red 95% of the time?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
The larger Self (coined by Carl Jung) can demonstrate being beyond time and space as we know it. Our consciousness can experience this through precognitive dreams. If one is passionate and open minded and keeps a mindful record (I'm to lazy to write them down every morning) one can experience this. Beyond the larger Self is the collective unconsciousness. Through this we get archetypes that one finds throughout history and geography. It's like our ego is like the Earth. From this perspective we think the sun and moon and stars revolve around us. Then we go through a shift in awareness and we realize we are part of a much larger Solar System (symbolizing the larger Self) that doesn't revolve around us. Random is a big number, easy to disturb. But give it some wider spectrum and you will appreciate the magic of each finger of your hand, the persistence of each color. Don’t use time as reference, let each number exist alone, like notes on the music of the universe.

7 or so years ago I had incredible sharp pain in the back of my head as soon as i got into bed and it was around 10 pm. hurt so bad i wanted to throw up and lasted a few minutes. next night around 10 pm my wife and i got into bed and i was scooting up against the head board to watch tv sitting up and I hit the wooden head board hard.. exact spot, exact pain and lasted just as long as the night before. I hit my head that the pain went back in time .
I relate to this. I swear every time i would go to a restaurant or fast food with my parents, a huge line would form behind us right after we get there. It happened almost every time. I figured it was just the time of day we went, but after a while I found it didn’t matter, we used to joke that everyone came because they heard our family was there😂
You get in line at a drive thru and it fills up within 20 seconds. You park to eat and watch the line diminish.
I'm that guy who is always the last one behind you, wits the longest time and the line is already very short when I'm ready.

I'm mostly a rational, scientifically educated person but distinctly remember 9/11 (I live in the Netherlands, Europe). I was sitting on a terrace with a friend talking and all of a sudden there was.. Something. Sitting on a terrace in a shopping street there were no tv's or anything. But something was just different, more people were looking confused. We then paid and left and when I got home my mother was watching the burning building and a bit later the 2nd plane flew into the other one while we were watching live.
I'm by no means saying this has some, currently thought of as metaphysical explanation. But somehow a sliver of that information managed to find us just randomly outside. We knew there was something big and not good just not what until we got home.
I can come up with many rational ways this might have happened. Someone saw it, unconscious body language and stuff spread the "feeling" of "something's off" perhaps, but somehow that kinda sounds somewhat far reaching as well.
I remember here in South Africa switching on the t.v right after school to a news channel, which I never did before. I switched it on just after the first plane hit the north tower.

Back in the 90's I was working at a public library circulation desk. Over time we, the desk workers, noticed something really weird. We could be discussing some completely random and very obscure topic and a book about that topic would be returned would be returned within minutes. This happened many many times.

This will sound stupid, but I've noticed from years of studious observation that Thursday is "poop day." The stalls in work restrooms are fuller on Thurs. than on any other day of the week. Why do I notice this? Because I have a shy bladder, and I use the stalls for #1 as well as #2. Not only are our minds connected on a subconscious level, our butts are as well.

A noticeable number of people on Thursday; the other day is Sunday, a phenomena you cannot study. 'Butt', here it is - it's a matter of preparation. A majority of people go twice a week. At home on Sunday, a slow day with people in & out of the house (airflow) so you can relax at home. And this way you're 'ready' for the beginning of the week. Thursday, away from home ('man, am I glad I didn't let THAT off in the house..') and after, all ready for the weekend...

Though I wonder what if such a thing as a global consciousness is found to exist? What would that mean for each of us? Would we change our lives in any meaningful way? I'm not sure we would.

What happens when Global AI discovers Global Consciousness? How long will we have, exactly, in microseconds?
Strange thing that would happen to my mom and I, when I was a teenager and into my early twenties. We would go out to eat not at lunch time or a normal eating time, it could be any random time. The place had no other diners or just a couple. And within 10 minutes of us arriving and ordering, there would be large amounts of people coming to eat. Sometimes bewildering the wait staff or other employees 🤷♀️. They would say where are all these people coming from and why. 🙇♀️🤷♀️
After a while my mom and I would joke about it. 🤪😂 We would go to a restaurant nobody there, then before 10 minutes elapsed in time there would be another five or 7 other people coming in to get something to eat. 🤔🤷♀️ The staff acted like they weren't ready for it🙇♀️🙇♀️. So then we started asking the staff do you normally get busy around this time, they would tell us no.
Then I did an experiment knowing that this happens to us, I decided to acknowledge it out loud right before we went into the restaurant. The restaurant stayed empty most of the time we were there no one else showed up.🤔
If you pay attention to people talking at parties or bars, they talk at the same time and stop together. Pulses in conversation... Might be linked to this idea.

On the morning of 9/11 I was sitting down at my desk at work, and digging in to a big stack of files. But I felt like I should turn on the radio and listen to the news, though I tended to never do that as it slows down my work day if I'm not focused in the mornings. Literally that's the only time in my life I felt like that, though, as I never felt that kind of urgent, pulling thought before, and I haven't felt it since. So, that's hard to describe as I only felt it once. So fwiw, maybe it is possible that enough people thinking of the same thing, with the same emotional feeling (fear/worry/concern, whatever chemicals our bodies make that help us focus when we're frightened, and also help those around us pick up on whatever we're reacting to, and likewise take their own action), like the word "news", that some of us can feel that. I don't know... it's a lot to think about, but there's all kinds of things we don't understand about consciousness!
I remember coming home from work with a pizza. Eating pizza an looking on tv i was thinking that that the movie had very good special effects. And slowly i realized that it was real. And thats where my jaw droppet to the floor.
Awesome episode. I was 11 when the planes struck the buildings. I live in Sweden and that day I just got home and turned on the TV. I do not usually do that, I most of the times just head up to my room. I do not usually speculate over things like this, but it sure is weird.
Great video! I too, have spent a lot of time thinking about this topic. If we aren't connected consciously, we certainly are creating a global consciousness in the internet. I used to roll dice a lot when i was younger and always had a number in my head that i wanted to appear and more often then not when i was focused on the roll i would get the desired result. Of course i was young and knew without a doubt i was making it happen.

Took me a while to get to your page through Nova, PBS UA-cam, and NdGT Brian Cox videos, but now that I have...consider me impressed. I’m only halfway through your discography, and me and my two boys (9&11) have made your videos a part of our morning commute to school. You will be in my first lot of patreon support.
When a guy like me (always a critical thinker, career scientist, generally a skeptic on "paranormal" things) one morning wakes up in fright and sweating after a vivid dream about planes flying into high-rise buildings - so vivid that I wrote it down into a journal and even discussed my bizarre dream with my cat (TMI maybe but)...and it is exactly 4:30 AM EST on 9/11/01 - then "critical thinking" just doesnt apply anymore.
I use to be afraid to talk about it as most people would call me a quack (so would I, normally). Nothing like that ever happened to me before, nor since. What it "means" I couldnt tell you. But years later when I found out that many many people had similar experiences..and then eventually learned about the GCP, I came to believe there is "something" going on.
The one idea I have toyed with about the pre-attack spike, is that at that time for sure many people knew about the planned attack (and if you believe some conspiracy theories, half the US government). Maybe that conscious knowledge was somehow tapped into. Anyway, I have no real idea. But I know what happened to me.
I am wondering if what we call "critical thinking" is indeed itself bound by the way we look at reality. Stuff like GCP, if there is indeed a connection, is maybe tapping into a different plane or reality than our usual way of applying critical thought can grasp. Perhaps we are simply too limited to see the necessary approach to understanding all this
I use to agonize over and even "hate" the fact I had that dream. But actually I am happy now for it as it convinces me that the potential for human consciousness is far beyond what you or I can imagine in our limited modes of analyses and prespectives. Folks can call me nuts all they want :) I actually feel rather content about the experience, even fortunate that I was able to see that .."insight" (not the correct word but..). And btw I do not think there is anything particularly remarkable or more "conscious" etc about me than the average person. But it just happened
Quite right that GCP is crude...and what it is not showing (nor could it I think) is what the correlation they are claiming really "means". This is the part that needs to be investigated IMO. Not just my probability researchers, but a host of other disciplines. IMO it is more important pursuit than so many others that dominate what the world spends time and resources on ...and could actually be our salvation.
My faith is that one day, maybe in a few hundred years or more (if we dont destroy ourselves) people will look at work like GCP as very very crude but at least was scratching the surface of something that is just beyond our current capabilities as humans to understand.
I worked at a hardware store as a kid and noticed the same group sync anomaly. Large groups would all come in at the same time, despite hours of the day with an empty store. These surges never tied to weather or time of day. It seemed completely random. Because there was so much time when no one was at the store, I spent a lot of brain cycles trying to correlate the group sync anomaly. It’s been background processing in my brain for 15 years, and I still don’t have a working theory.
A scientist myself, I become very frustrated by scicommers stifling the curiosity of their followers by just laughing off topics like these.

An Important Message For Humanity and Earth

While many people are on lock down, the thought of raising your own emotional energy and sending out healing and loving energies to all of life would be a pleasant relief from the fear and trepidation of these times, and bring a greater sense of union to us all, helping many people through difficult alone times knowing that they are sharing this special moment with all their friends and family and beyond to our global family.
Take a time to sit,
and be still,
and quiet,
and share in something bigger.
What to focus on...
Love and gratitude for all we appreciate in our life and Love to all our friends and family where ever they may be.
Love for all our past challenges that have made us go further than we thought we could, bringing inner strength.

Our galactically tiny, beautiful, magical orb travelling through space and time, alive, living, breathing with her own natural rhythms and energies among the cosmos, Our mother Earth, Gaia, She needs our attention and we need hers now too as we collectively come to realise "We are all One" and interconnected and interdependent in so many ways. We can make this leap forward now in our evolution, it has happened many times before in our past with the evolution of speech and art etc.
We are now at a time of huge change in our world and we are due a leap forward into a new consciousness, based on the estimated timings of previous leaps and global population numbers and the movement of people and changes within cultures. It only takes a few good people to change the world, but we are many, so many that we could easily get this information out to Millions, if not Billions of people of during this crisis. The potential of this could change our world in next to no time at all.

The retail rush phenomenon(for lack of a better term) is something a lot of people have experienced. As a cart pusher, if there were 2 people and one went to break, customers would almost instantly start piling in. And then there are the times it's triggered by someone commenting on the pace of the customers. Sure enough, it would be like the water pulling away from the beach before a tidal wave. I make it a point to warn people that are new to retail about this. I also warn people that food stamp and social security days are days where they don't want to be shopping after 10am. I don't know what it is about our town, but it's like clockwork that people will start really coming in around 10am.
I will say that humans are creatures of habit. If people are raised to follow certain habits, it will follow them through life without a second thought.
There are WAY too many factors and variables to track easily, but the phenomenon is worth the research.
It's the same thing that tells you someones looking at you, from behind. You turn around and tada someones looking at you. Every brain has a transmitter that is on a frequency we have not discovered yet. From what I know of Alien encounters. They say they don't talk, yet can operate and work as a team. If there is ANY truth at all to these stories It tells us that once you reach a certain level of intelligence your brain basically turns into its own cell phone.
I like to believe in consciousness as the water cycle, we all come from an ocean of consciousness and then fall back to it like drops, and our job is to tell that ocean what we learned as drops

Ok so... bear with me for a moment, this requires some thought...
Inside every cell are small structures called organelle. Each different type of organelle perform different functions to keep the cell alive, without themselves being alive. Each one performs these functions as a reaction... with no awareness of the greater cell that they make up.
Although some cells live entirely on their own, many cells live in groups that make up a whole. Each one of those cells perform specific tasks that benefit the larger being that they make up... i.e. brain cells fire, hart cells expand and contract, blood cells move nutrients... etc. They are not themselves conscious, but all of these cells, acting to keep up their own lives, can create a conscious whole... us.
Does it stop there? Or is it possible that together we (acting as individuals) make up an even greater awareness? Could a city have a greater form of consciousness? A Country? A world?... The universe?
Could it be that together we (combined with every thing else in the universe) cerate a form of awareness that we as individuals could no more understand than an organelle can understand our own awareness?

It was probably millions, we are taking about instruments used for quantum physics and classical physics. They want to prove their theories right or wrong to their best ability. I have no doubt they have the means to run millions of tests. I’m sure they did
The website of the project says, "The data are transmitted to a central archive which now contains more than 15 years of random data in parallel sequences of synchronized 200-bit trials generated every second." If I've done my calculations correctly, that means close to 100 billion data points from EACH location.
I remember waking up at 6am panicked and feeling something was really wrong...I'll never forget it...
my mom tells a story of when I was 3 years old, we where at my grandparents. she, grandma and grandpa went to visit someone down the street and left me with dad who fell asleep and I went for a walk on the road, I don't know why maybe looking for her. she tells it that all of a sudden she jumped up from her chain and shouted where is Dagan, on she way back to the house she left me in she found me at the end of the street just about to walk out onto a much bigger busier street. I am 40 years old now and this event still bothers her, she still tells it the same and cant explain why or how it happened. just thought I would share this.

I worked at a food court in a mall when I was younger. We had periods were no one was in line to order and then... boom, a large number of customers would show up at the same time. This happened over and over daily. Like, somehow, everyone got hungry at the same time in rushes. I thought the same things you did about it. It is hard to ignore when you notice it happening.
I'd really appreciate it, if you would take a second look at these PEAR studies. As already pointed out by others, there are some major flaws in their statistics and they basically saw what they wanted to see in these experiments. I was reallly disappointed when I looked at their data for myself. You could pack this into some vid where you explain why not to trust EVERY scientific paper, even when it got peer reviewed, published, etc.
So for the sake of science and not confusing people: Point it out in a video or in the comments at least.
Damn. I still believe conciousness is more than just internal brain juice working. Maybe one day we'll get some actual evidence
just like the cat in the box. Observation changes the outcome. When we measure something, we alter it. okay, no machine can produce truly random numbers. it works according to structured laws governing electrical impulses. want a really random number for coin tosses. Wheel barrows, shovels, piles of quarters in vaults. dump them all off of skyscrapers, THEN count the difference between heads and tails. no one knows how many quarters were dropped until the tally is complete, and separate teams should only hear about results AFTER all of the accounting is done. Closest you'll ever get to a truly random number and pure results involving sufficiently high sample numbers.

I want to relate an incident which did raise questions about the power of intention. It doesn't prove anything but it does raise an interesting question.
I used to make walking sticks and specifically chose sticks that had become naturally twisted by wild honeysuckle. However, I began to feel a bit of a vandal hacking off tree limbs so I stopped. A friend who was something of a "tree-hugger" suggested I "ask the trees" (a suggestion I immediately dismissed, not being fluent in Tree). But it did occur to me that maybe there was a way in which it could be a transaction that benefits the tree. As my preferred kind of branches always came from trees that were rather choked with honeysuckle, I could clear all the honeysuckle from the tree in return for my chosen branch.
With that plan in mind, I set off for the woods with my dog, Fudge. She was a chocolate Labrador and I would describe her as generally obliging rather than obedient. Happy to oblige as long as it doesn't conflict with her own agenda... that sort of thing. I was expecting to collect no more than one or two sticks, given that I'd have to allow the time it takes to clear all the honeysuckle from the trees. It usually takes a long time just to find the right sticks as they're comparitively rare.
As soo as we reached the woodland path, Fudge ran off into the undergrowth and wouldn't come when I called her. I could see her just sitting and staring at me but she wouldn't budge. So I tramped in after her to see what she was so interested in. As I approached, she ran off again and waited for me to catch up. She kept this up until she came to rest by a hazel tree pretty much smothered with honeysuckle. There were several branches I could have used but the deal my mind had settled on was one tree cleared for one branch. So I cleared the tree and selected the best branch.
As soon as I had finished, Fudge ran off again and followed the same routine of running to the limit of my line of sight and waiting for me to catch up... until she came to rest at another tree tangled in honeysuckle.
In all, she repeated this routine five times and each time led me to a tree that was covered in honeysuckle and, from each, I was able to harvest a nice twisted branch.
I had collected the same number of good sticks I would normally have expected to collect in the same amount of time I would normally have taken to collect them. The time I would normally have spent looking for suitable trees was spent clearing the trees I had found.
Sadly, I was unable to repeat this because Fudge's health was declining and the hill was too much of a challenge for her. Here are the questions I was left with:
>Could my intention to clear trees have emitted a signal that trees could detect?
>Could the trees have emitted a signal that Fudge could detect?
We know that trees do emit signals to each other. That fact has already been established. We also know that animals emit chemical signals that convey information to other animals. So it is not beyond the realm of possibility that we convey far more information than we realise in our magnetic field or body odour or whatever. It's not beyond the realm of possibility that a dog (far more versed in detecting and interpreting signals than humans) could detect the 'help-needed-here' signals that may have been emitted by the trees.
It's something to ponder.

+TheMJT4 Thanks! It's kinda sad, I do list videos every once in a while and they always perform well. But I try not to do them very often. You're right, it gets formulaic.
So, similar to Joe's story about the rushes at that store: I work at an escape room. There's some weird, and statistically verifiable stuff that goes on. We'll have people make some strange new mistake we've never seen before in 2+ years of operation (Interpreting a hint wrong or screwing up an easy puzzle in a specific way)... then in the following weeks, a dozen or so teams will make that same mistake... before it just stops and teams normalize. I always thought it was confirmation bias, and it had happened before, but we forgot about it until a few teams did it in a row, making us notice a trend, or that subtle variation in the setup of the room primed people to make those mistakes in some strange, subconscious way... But now I'm not entirely sure. We keep an immensely detailed set of records, so the trends are quite visible when looking back over them.
It's funny what he mentions at the end about being on shift and noticing strings of people coming in at exactly the same time, I noticed the same phenomenon where I worked, and it wasn't;t just at dinner rushes, but rather an hour before close, or 3 hours after open, random times, with groups of unconnected people.
Multiple peer reviews have found the deviations to be statistically insignificant. Weird how you left that part out.
Where can I read those peer reviews? Not being flippant; I just have been wondering what exactly those charts are plotting...

I was talking to my fiancee about this yesterday. As a Philosopher I spend a lot of time in the realm of Abstract. I think reality has dimensions. And as someone who spends more time in Abstract than Physical, I often feel a sense of disconnect.
After all, of we consider people like Buddha...have many not spoken of disconnecting from the physical and connecting to a universal intellogence ? Religions have spoken about God being All Knowing and All Wise.
So clearly, there is something there and on some level we know it is there.
What remains to be ascertained os is...what exactly is it that we are dealing with ?

When looked at from a far the structure of the universe is spookily Simalar to that of a human brain. This video just blew my mind, I'm not sure what to think about everything now. It's a lot to take in and I have so many questions..
I work in a cabinet finishing shop. We do nothing but finishing and work for the same 5 or 6 competing manufacturers. Each one offering complete custom door styles and colors. as well as crown moldings etc. Patterns between our different clients just happen. One day we will get a different door style from one company and we just know that the next bunch of jobs will be the same. This would not seem so strange but it happens all of the time. It isn't just the flavor of the month. These styles and color schemes have been around for ever. When I see something new from one company, it repeats for weeks or months from completely different companies.

Interesting that bring up the grocery store rushes. I work at a grocery store too and have noticed that items that never really sale are hot for about 2 to 3 hours. It's crazy, we go a whole year without selling it and all of a sudden everyone goes crazy. If it were like 4 people I would say it's coincidence... but 17 sales in that short amount of time is crazy(I count these things now as I am aware of them).

Funny you mention working in the store. I did the same when i was young and noticed the same. I concluded it was probably that the distribution of chance is, by nature, not equal. No global conscienceness needed.
But this experiment proves that emotion effects reality. Not conscious effecting other thoughts and decisions of consciousness

I was in 6th grade when 9/11 happened. The teachers rolled tv's into 2 of the classrooms and basically all of the school piled into those two rooms.
Same thing happens at work all the time. I work in food service. Will get these rushes out of nowhere. Seems like groups of people that don’t even know each other all decide to pull into the same parking lot at the same time.

Joe states here that "The double slit experiment for example showed that our conscious observation can change the behavior of subatomic particles". What Joe is describing is the collapse of the wave function into particles in the double slit experiment. Joe's comment of 'conscious observation' is not true. Consciousness does not collapse the wave function, measurement does. If a measurement device, such as a camera (which is not conscious) was used in the double slit experiment, the collapse of the wave function would still occur even if the recording from the camera is never viewed or destroyed. This is because the interaction, the measurement from the camera is what causes the wave function to collapse and not consciousness.

On the double split experiment, particules get their state not because they're observed, but because they're measured. There has to be a PHYSICAL interaction.
jeromesnail I think youre wrong. You can measure an object without directly interacting with it. For example, using spectral analisys, you do not interact with a distant star to find out what elements it is made of.

Particle-wave duality though. If you think of the particle as a wave that is going through both slits at once (interfering with itself after the slits to create the pattern), measuring it at 1 slit means you are physically interacting with it.

Interesting story about people rushing to the store out of nowhere... I worked at a gas station and noticed a similar trend at times. And another thing, without fail nearly every time I'm driving and I come to a cross street or a T, any time of day or even midnight... The road could be completely dead for hours before or after I come to it but there is almost always SOMEONE right there at the EXACT time to have the right of way before me and going slow enough to annoy me. I started saying hi serendipitous person to myself whenever that happens. Also if traffic lights are supposedly 50/50 red or green.... Why are they red 95% of the time?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
The larger Self (coined by Carl Jung) can demonstrate being beyond time and space as we know it. Our consciousness can experience this through precognitive dreams. If one is passionate and open minded and keeps a mindful record (I'm to lazy to write them down every morning) one can experience this. Beyond the larger Self is the collective unconsciousness. Through this we get archetypes that one finds throughout history and geography.
It's like our ego is like the Earth. From this perspective we think the sun and moon and stars revolve around us. Then we go through a shift in awareness and we realize we are part of a much larger Solar System (symbolizing the larger Self) that doesn't revolve around us. Then the Solar System is also part of a larger system, our Galaxy (collective unconscious).

Random is a big number, easy to disturb. But give it some wider spectrum and you will appreciate the magic of each finger of your hand, the persistence of each color. Don’t use time as reference, let each number exist alone, like notes on the music of the universe.
I've had my moment when I concentrate hard enough I can communicate with the people I have a strong relationship with. It was spooky. I haven't been able to repeat it again.
