@@INFINITUMSPIRIT Nah, sorry it was actually me laughing at you.
Except that’s just an assumption. We don’t know any reason why or how unconscious material would somehow become conscious. It’s a serious philosophical problem.
My guess is that consciousness formed as an improved feedback system. It is a lot easier for an organism to approach or avoid certain circumstances if it has tools that span beyond that of automatic processes. The ability to think and reason does a lot to help ensure the survival and quality of life of an individual. It also helps one make sense of the environment around oneself rather than just existing and relying on automatic functions
Yea definitely just the results of millions of years of trail and error. My theory is we don’t even develop consciousness until we grow older as kids after we have processed enough data about the world. Like a video game that makes you level up to learn new skills or develop the skill you have to be more refined.
very well said
But if it's just a complex mechanism like in a comouter, how are we intrinsicly aware of it. In your view there is literally no difference between a complex organism calculatiung sensory input without having an acutual consciousness to an actual conscious being. I think you are confusting consciousness with self reflexion an complex thought. But a very good computer could have the same thoughts without being conscious at all.
@@itachis2gaming882 No, Babies also have conscious experience. We just don't have continuity in memory. But there are a few people that actually can remember their early childhood and they also percieve pain in the same way as you, they just can't verbalize it or create complex thoughts and reflexion.

@Seraphic Chic - We may have been conscious before then, but just do not now remember it now. My early memories are like still images or very brief film clips and are self centered, of course.

Actually, because you/we think that, and state this so brazenly, makes your statement abundantly false, inherently, lol. What we do now shapes our futures collectively. Think about it.
This will never happen. Much of the early internet simply doesn’t exist because of all the servers that have been shut down, sold away, wiped, bought up, etc. There will be no digital archaeologists. Internet culture is not ‘real’ like bones are.

Bullshit thought how the fuck does a baby human support itself on it's own
@@jumpforcegawd2700 it doesn't. Oviously due to evalution having anouther human with more experince look after new born while it develops its mind proved to be benificieal in terms of survival. Since allowing the brain to develop based on its experience after birth allows for a greater understanding of the world as the human grows up. Instead of having a mind that is purley determined by genes alone.
Instead of having to wait for eeveloution to catch up with making a more complex mind, the mind can just learn on its own without evelution. The mind noe has the ability to adapt to new and diffrent situations.
The amazing side affect being the counciousnedd and... well you know... basically what we are today. But i do wounder if there is higher level of counciounes thst we have not reached... is it possible to have maximum counciousness? What would thst be like? I love how the answer to what is consciousness is, we don't know so instead let's talk about something related instead.
A good definition of consciousness I once read in a text on yoga psychology is that consciousness is awareness of awareness and this always sat well with me.
Which is probably something that all sentient beings experience to some extent, not just humans. For all intents and purposes, either all sentient animals are conscious beings, or none are.
@@EidolonSpecus i mean, there is a difference between sentience and sapience
@@heliveruscalion9124 Yes of course. Sentience is the ability to have conscious experiences and make intentional choices. Basically all animals have this as long as they have the ability to sense and to have intentionality at all, it is not based on any specific number or acuity of the senses one has access to (for example, blind or autistic people are just as sentient as people who can see or who are neurotypical, contrary to what we used to think a few decades ago). Sapience, on the other hand, is having wisdom, or prescriptive knowledge, the ability to reflect on the value of one's choices and experiences, either past, present or future; it is to some extent an acquired trait, humans are merely born with the necessary conditions to develop sapience; for example, newborn human babies are not sapient yet, but will gradually develop it and expand this capacity through reflecting on their experiences.
It is arguable that members of some other species have potential for developing sapience as well; like rats which pass empathy-behavior tests, parrots, most whales, etc.

It's possible as the language evolved, so did the capacity for self-awareness of this sub-group of apes we belong to. Those earlier than us, our distant relatives could be without consciousness, that is "introspection". It could be a cultural construction that arose as societies developed more complex structures and individuals became more introspective. The Origin Of Consciousness in the Breakdown of the Bicameral Mind alludes to such a development.

There are other impetus for consciousness than food. I've been writing that the brain needs a feedback mechanism to ensure that cellular chemical and neurological processes are functioning accurately. Then it needs mechanisms to ensure the guardian mechanisms function properly, then mechanisms to watch the watchers. An eventual level of consciousness emerges as a result.

How do creatures even knew that there were light and they can evolve some part of body which they can use light to see things?
This idea is fascinating. Interesting, good work...
@@hamzi3434 That's not how evolution works. Simply put, mutations in the genome enabled the development of novel proteins that could detect light, which would be an extremely useful feature to have in order to perceive objects around the organism. Natural selection can then fixate these traits in a population, wherein organisms with this beneficial mutation out-compete others.

I like the approach of building up from simpler forms of consciousness to more complex ones. There's an element of sensory integration worth perhaps touching on more, in that input from vision, smell, taste, touch, etc. need to be bundled together by the brain and integrated into a higher level sense of what's going on within and around you (this function being grounded in human neuroanatomy, in particular). But that's a minor detail. Overall a really excellent video and approach.

The meaning of life is self discovery, most humans are 99% unconscious and therefore the key is in becoming more conscious, evolving etc etc.

This channel covers a lot of really complex issues, and its sad to see them not give them their due time. This issue of consciousness should be way more fleshed out. Its basically the most advanced philosophical question there is put into a ten minute video.
One thing not talked about in the video is, what is "the self"? Why am I this "self"? Are others really other "selves" just like me or are they not really "selves" and giving the benefit of the doubt that they are actually conscious "selves" is the only thing I can do? Is my perspective the only perspective that exists or are there other perspectives? Does a rock have its own perspective?

@@ThreeBeeHDb Infinity
@@ThreeBeeHDb Objectively there are no "walls" in the sense of limits to the universe, but subjectively there are 3 "walls" in one's vision. Unless you're approaching a black hole; you could, in theory, see the back of your head in a situation like that.

Great video! I can attest to the issues of unhealthy veganism. Back when I was in the midst of a drug addiction that happened after I had been a relatively healthy vegan I was living on instant noodles and breakfast cereal. I was just eating noodles with the powdered flavour sachet cooked with boiled water and no additional veggies, no vitamins, and no supplements. I lost a lot of weight and was constantly becoming unwell.
Prior to that I had been consuming a vegan diet, supplements, vitamins, and I lost weight in a healthy manner with a few months, I felt great all the time and energised every day. It’s easy when you are feeding yourself and can work towards a good well-rounded diet.
After tackling my addiction and trying to regain weight I stopped a vegan diet and after a couple of years my cholesterol went wayyyyyy up and I have been working to reduce it since.
I’m a vegetarian now, borderlining on vegan and starting to feel healthier once again. It takes work and you need to listen to your body!!!
Awfully bold of you to say that humans "enjoy" consciousness.

This is probably one of the best and simplest ways to describe how conscious came to be! Never thought of it this way but it makes sense in theory. Consciousness came about as a needs to survive and better equip ourselves for our surroundings. We needed to see our food, we needed to be mindful of timing and planning, and so on and so forth until consciousness flowered into something today. A heightened sense of consciousness where we are able to question who we are etc. It is like a blessing and a curse.
The fact that I was gifted consciousness makes it disappointing that someday I will lose it
I don't agree, life itself, and especially those distant genetic ancestors of ours could have cognition, learning, sensation, and perception but be without any "consciousness", that is "introspection", as we define it today. It could be a product of culture.
Reality accurate, and amazing animations! Good job
The only time I've felt like I truly understood consciousness was the few times I've experienced what a psychosis felt like. I remember just being blown away and in a state of awe and appreciation, knowing that I wouldn't understand what I was feeling once I snapped out of it

I experienced psychosis couple times, it was horrible for me. It's basicly when your brain loses its ability to filter out reality. There are terabytes of input coming at your mind every second, and if you fail to filter what has value and what has not, you go into psychosis. A state of mind where you doubt every belief you ever had, you lose your confidence in yourself completely and you feel like something terrible is about to happen. It's such a mental torture that I wouldn't want my enemies to experience. So so horrible. Yet society conditions us every day to hide our feelings and not express ourselves fully. Good luck not expressing yourself for a long time. Because you will lose your ability to trust yourself, your emotions and your instincts. You will be left with the logical fact that someday you are going to die. And then my friend, you will only feel fear. So horrible. I believe this society is prone to collapse because of this fundamental problem.
Props for the extra effort as promised in the previous video. I notice the video footnotes and the sources link at the TOP of the description no less. Good on your team for staying true to your word.

@@kommon2443 Yes, yes. I'm fully aware of the full Coffee Break fiasco. Frankly, yes it was a bad point of how the situation was handled on both parts. If you haven't already, I suggest going to the Coffee Break video, and reading the pinned comment. I'm not saying Kurz is out of the wrong for the situation, but Coffee Break is also not in the right. Both Parties have learned valuable things from the experience, and frankly, the viewership of both channels benefit.
So please, review situations before claiming someone is uninformed, and if you have time, I recommend the video posted today by SmarterEveryDay. It's a great watch, and VERY indirectly addresses this situation quite well.

Speaking as an actual panpsychist, none of us believes rocks are consciousness, we believe rocks are composed of smaller things that have the potential for consciousness. Imagine like you have all the raw materials to make a boat. There are many ways for you to organize these mAterials but very few in which they will transcend their basic status and become an actual boat, if that makes sense. We refer to it as “organizational duality”
An interesting observation is that while looking for food some structures and paths are created. For example the eye structure is developed to give the owner a greater surviving advantage. On other profound level mathematics or ethics give advantages in other arenas. In conclusion is the side effect of a survival skill what makes interesting the evolution.
