There is just something musical and rather satisfying about the infamous growl the brushrolls on these machines produced. You could tell your carpet was getting a thorough clean not just by the visual bouncing of the dirt and grit, but by the sound of the roller beating and sweeping each carpet fiber.
The vintage Vacs like this one still clean carpets better than most modern day vacuum's. The old technology that James Spangler used to invent the very first portable "Hoover" Vacuum a long time ago, still to this day remains the best way to get carpets the completely clean, that's why a lot of hotels still use this style of vacuum, be it a modern day version like a Sanitare but the technology is exactly the same. Vintage Hoover's are some of the very best vacuum's ever made in my opinion 👌
You know your getting old, when people are collecting vintage things from your childhood. I certainly remember my parents using these, they have such a distinctive sound.
Very nice example. The lower cord hook wouldn’t put me off either. It is in wonderful condition. This particular machine was manufactured in January 1978.
I remember the shake and vac adverts and always thought it was actress Wendy Craig lol Let’s face it the real star of the add is the hoover ranger senior.I love it to bits
Thank you Roger, truly a delighted to see a vacuum cleaner of my childhood. what a trip down memory lane, i own 3 of which one is unused. low puring, very relaxing. the suction above floor cleaning is terrible though, but good to have it complete. Thank you so much for your innitiative from South Africa
Enjoyed this very much so while being educated about the history of the vacuum & so forth. I myself cleaned my flat with my 1926 Hoover model 700. Which was cutting edge technology back in her hay day as it was Hoover’s very first machine to introduce positive agitation. It Is were Hoover got its Slogan “it beats as it sweeps as it cleans” long live Hoover.
Hi Roger lovely Hoover I found one at a Rubbish Tip back in 1985 my Aunty Wanted to Pay me $20 Australian she still uses it today My Aunty has lot's Carpet show's how Reliable they are 👍
I must say, Hoover really did know how to build a vacuum back in the day! I recently won a Decade 80 in fairly good condition at auction, and have been blown away by its performance. Aside from my Riccar-made Simplicity Tandem, nothing else in my collection lifts and agitates the carpet quite like it. My only real issue is the utter lack of filtration on these old Hoovers - even with the 'allergen' type A bags, I could feel myself getting itchy and sneezing every time I vacuumed. I cobbled together a solution using the outer cloth bag from a Conquest, which has three layers of fabric for considerably better filtration. It doesn't look quite original anymore, but it also doesn't look as bad as one might think!
The sad part about these vaccum cleaners is by time the machine they were moving toward a sealed system, hard bodies, and even on board tools they discontinued the machine. It is so sad
the led u tired did it support both ac and dc power. i know when i replaced the the bulb in my kirby with an led the first one i bought only worked with dc voltage so it would flicker off and on. i bought different bulb that worked with both ac and dc and that one works perfect. so just make sure u get one that support ac power as it seem most old vacuums used ac for the bulbs were as these led are mostly made for use in cars and those pretty much all run on dc.
Impressive agitation ! Wonderful video Roger . Have to wonder why the beater bars were ever discontinued. Love the rumble of the engine . Really enjoyed this video !
Wow! Love your channel! Keep up the amazing work! One of my, if not my absolute, favorite machines is a Filter Queen; however, I haven’t seen any Filter Queens on your channel. Any chance one might pop up one of these days? I have 3 of them, myself. My all-time favorite Filter Queen is my brown, D33 model from the 1970’s, with the automatic cord rewind. Anywho, I would love to see some Filter Queens on your channel! Cheers! AC
Thank you for this highly-educational video showing the insides of your famous British Hoover Senior. Our North American Hoover Convertibles also used a rear slot for the hose converter - throughout the 1960’s and early 1970’s. I always wondered if the narrow channel in the converter was prone to clogging - especially if used with a floor brush to clean large bits of dirt off a bare floor. Was clogging a common problem with this flat converter?
I’ve never had problems with clogging, but I’ve hardly used the tools on a Senior and the suction is quite poor so it would struggle with large particles from a hard floor. It’s something I will have to try at some point.
ibaisaic That makes a lot of sense Roger - the weak suction would probably not pick up particles large enough to clog the converter - certainly not heavy salt or gravel brought into an entryway by shoes and boots. The pan converters certainly grab more of the fan’s suction - the rear converters allow suction to leak out toward the brush with the movement of the belt.
I've got one of these for sale on e bay put it in wrong listing but if anyone is interested search for vintage Hoover U4014 there's only a few hours left.
@@graysonsvacsandmowers5426 I believe it was because they damaged hard floors, so changed to the turbo type brushroll. I have a junior and it's good with dog hair and sand, far better than modern cleaners which tend to leave the sand in the carpet
I *loved* vacuum cleaner headlights when I was younger. Many years ago, when I was sharing a flat, my flatmate's mum gave him her old Senior Ranger. I replaced the bulb twice, and each time it blew within days, so I gave up. I was most disappointed.

What a lovely old girl! Got to get me one here in Canada man I need that awesome rumbling powerful masculine machine!
Hi many thanks for your lovely demonstration I have really enjoyed your video.

A quick wipe and some T Cut and she looks even better now.
My aunt had this one. And my other aunt had the yellow one. I now have a yellow one.
Loved this video and I would choose this over a expensive dyson any day.
I remember the shake and vac adverts and always thought it was actress Wendy Craig lol
Let’s face it the real star of the add is the hoover ranger senior.I love it to bits
Takes me back
We had the exact same ranger when I was little, soooo loud the entire road knew when we were Hoovering
I love love love that vacuum, the green is beautiful, and you can actually hear the beater bar vibrating the carpet. So jealous

This was always one of my favorite Hoover styles of course here and USA though it was a blue Hoover convertible.
I now own the self and same machine in the same colour .it’s my favourite hoover in my small collection.
The low grumble of the motor and that agitation! Love it!
Cant wait to see that Roger! brilliant video as always 🙂
Loved this so much, especially when you revealed the original metal body under the plastic hood. Fascinating. Great video as always.
I confess that I hated avocado green back then.
That said, your videos are wonderful.

Very nice senior. We have that hood style in America for our convertibles.

Can’t wait for the next video with this 😂
I hope you bring back the big mess tests.

Hear in the states they are labeled the Hoover Convertible. Are they labeled the Hoover Senior in the UK?
Hi Roger why Hoover went to the plastic cord winders on the Hoover up rights if they had kept the steel ones👍 nice machine
Roger! I think I have the earlier senior that you mentioned! I’d be happy to send it you if you do wish

Beats as it sweeps as it cleans action.
Hello Roger the Iphone do the same thing they change their models but keep their phones exactly the same!
Good rhyme bro love your vids

Probably because they would smash laminate and floor tiles lol 😂
@@geoffhughes1986 so your able to use them on hard floors without tools? That’s something I’ve always wondered

What years did they use those rear end converters?
Hey bro love your vids
When you are off-screen your voice seems to get a real late-great Kenny Everett vibe :)
I take that as a huge compliment. I love Kenny Everett.
The only problem is the tool converter only covers half the fan so quite a lot of suction is lost out of the cleaner head.
Nice find. I assume you know the Sebo fleece bag trick.
I've got one of these for sale on e bay put it in wrong listing but if anyone is interested search for vintage Hoover U4014 there's only a few hours left.
Do they make Hoover Rangers singers shake back in the USA
anybody know what these would fetch if unused and boxed?
Hello are you getting a Miele triflex roger the new cordless?
Hopefully, if they come down in price after launch.
Wonder why they stopped making “beater bars” “vibra groomer” etc?? I love the dancing dirt!
They were probably too aggressive with the carpet, and for pet owners, probably didn't do a good job with pet hair.

Cool
Its so ugly that its actually beautiful ..if that makes sense..cool vac from my childhood👍
I am using a hoover h1 bag in my vax 121
Are you excited for Christmas 🎄 well if you are I am too
You should do a dyson robotic vacuum if you can
I think it is a 1980 version of that vacuum cleaner
With the direct converter through the back as opposed to a pan converter this must be a ‘70s model.
The Hoover Ranger was in production until 1981 when it was replaced by Hoover Senior U4186.
The serial number dates it to 1978
It is from 1978.
That SUCKS that people don't replace the lights

Hi
Not my favourite colour. Wow! Let's see a 42 month old Dyson do that well, much less a 42 year old one.
