This video was really helpful! Is there a certain type of acting you would recommend starting with if you want to get into TV and Movie type things? Like would it be good to do theatre for a bit, then go into commercials then into the big thing, or would it be easier to stick to one thing?
In acting, you need to be a lot more physical. You might need to eat nachos or drink soda or dance or punch a punching bag, while in voice acting, you just need your voice to match the character that you're playing.
This can be tricky, but ultimately we have to work with what is within our means. We can always self practice at home by pulling out our phones and recording ourselves do a monologue or scene. Though you don’t have the instruction of an instructor at your immediate disposal, you’ll be surprised by what you can find on your own. The question you must continue to ask yourself is, “does the work I put up seem real?” Some things we do wrong will be completely obvious, while others will force us to be part detective within our work. This is one of the initial processes you can go through. For certain actors, sometimes one good class, is better than no class at all, it just depends on the actor. So for example, if you can’t take any on camera acting classes, than maybe you should participate in a theater class, keeping in mind that not everything you do will be applied to the camera. Keeping that thought in mind can then make a theater class more beneficial for the actor for the actor who can’t participate in an on camera class. This is of course following the idea ‘if some class is better than no class’ for a particular actor. Again, certainly if on camera work is what you want to do, than finding a good on camera class would be the goal, but again you must work within the means that you have available to you right now. Hope this helps! Cheers!
Hi thank for the video! I am auditioning for a play soon, and I have to read a monologue in the form of the show I’m not sure what that means ? I believe it is a comedy. Is that what they mean by that?
When it comes to movie let’s say directors/producers are scouting out faces for their projects. Do some of them look at new commercials and see new faces that might be appealing to them? If so do they reach out to that person some how by getting in contact with that person?
Normally it’s all done through the normal auditioning process. It’s possible that casting or a director may find someone interesting and want to see them, but they’d probably be someone from a TV show or movie, not a commercial. With this being said, 99% of the time they will pick someone from the normal auditioning process.
