- He's just a sack of bones 😔.
This poor old skinny man is covered in burrs, smells as though he's been living in trash, and his back legs aren't working. Although we don't think he was hit by a car, it looks like he might have degenerative myelopathy, which basically means his back limbs and spine are very weak. This is very common among pure-bred German Shepards. We're getting him all cleaned up (he's soooo thirsty and hungry). Because he has so many burrs, we named him Bill Burr and will continue to update everyone. He's the sweetest man, we're so glad we have him. ❤
PLEASE, come foster or adopt today, tomorrow, and Sunday. We are open every day and are begging for help so we can get back on the streets, these dogs need help and it's killing us not being out there. Just come, no appointment needed: 2320 Pine Street, 63103

I hope he will have 'enough' for his recovery with lots of love, rest, lots of sleep, a nice bath and care, good food, water, s soft bed, millions of hugs and a.s.a.p his forever or foster home. Tears still stream down my cheeks. He has a (flea? -) collar on, so he belonged to someone......

Breaks every part of my heart seeing such a majestic breed reduced to this. If I lived in your State, even in your country, I'd adopt as many as I possibly and legally could. Hoping he finds his furever home once he's up and recovered. You all do such an amazing amount of care for these human companions. xo

I’ve heard that German shepherds are rivalling pit bulls in numbers at shelters these days. What is wrong with these selfish people that abandon and neglect their dogs? Thank god for people like you guys ❤
I've got a gsx now 12 that I took out of a horrible kennels as a youngster . He is as sweet as any dog and so nicely protective he just tell cyclists etc he won't take any nonsense

Dear,because stupid people,follow a hipe,just like a game or a fashion brand.When they are bored with it,they "throw away".Sad and sick,hope they get their share one day.
Really Sheppards wow people really don't want to train their dogs that would be my first choice they are so loyal
In my local shelters in North CA. it's pitbulls, followed by German shepards, followed by huskies. The ones that bother me the most are the old dogs - any breed.

He was lying there because he could barely walk... Seeing a German Shepherd in this condition makes me very angry, because every single stray on this planet is human fault. Unconditional prison time for animal abusers.

So messed up ! How y’all can do this to an innocent dog is beyond me! Omg so much hate dog cruelty, strays ! Very hard to watch I literally had to hold my tears back cover my mouth of disgust ! He’s a beautiful dog. FYI, Truckers lose their pets while they’re on the road and often have loads and a time frame so heartbreakingly, have to leave. Truckers lost and found pets is on FB, I will share with them.
Such a beautiful dog, absolutely love German Shepherds so thank you for your gentleness and kind words to this wonderful I’m thinking senior dog who deserves to be loved and cared for not dumped on a street!!

This looks like hip dysplasia. I wonder whether an operation woUld help this dog.
Get him a cart for his hind end and he may still have a few good years left. Ill be rooting for him.

Oh my gosh he is so sweet. I wish I could take him. Unfortunately I have an Akita bull dog mix I rescued at the APA years ago and I don’t think they would mix. I pray that someone adopts him soon.

The scenario plays out: a purebred puppy is bought and loved until he develops hip dysplasia, then he's dumped because he's "broken." Other truckers. My mom had a GSD when I was a kid. She was humanely euthanized when she was in terrible pain from dysplasia.

I have such respect for rescuers. They see the worst in humanity, but rise above their own thought and feelings to continue to focus on the mission. I’m sure there are many tears at night though.

Yep, that dog has degenerative myelopathy. Sucks. There's no effective treatment or cure. It's a degenerative neurological disease that progresses from the back legs to the hip up throughout the body. I walked my shepherd mix every day in the water at the beach until the water got too cold. I had to put him down a month later when he could no longer lift his head...
The dog is so delicious
I wish they would give them water before they feed them. Thirst is horrible.
dogs are motivated more by smell so a sausage will gather their attention more than a drink, the drink can be more accepted once the trust is there, doing it that way will be based on tens of thousands of interactions no doubt

Handsome pupper but why did you not think of the water sooner? Out in the middle of the hot asphalt and you fed those salter Vienna sausages. It was obvious that water was needed sooner.
Throwing dry biscuits or sausages at an old sick dog lying in the hot sun when it's obvious he needs WATER ASAP! Smh. 🥵🙄😥
