I'm Obsessed With the McLaren 720S! | TRACK TEST

- Previous experience has told me that the McLaren 720S is a fabulous machine, but taking it for some laps on track helped me find a whole new fondness for it! Day two of my adventure to New Zealand has me joining up with McLaren Auckland at Hampton Downs for a track drive with both the 570S Spider and 720S in Bruce McLaren's homeland. Do you think I should be adding one to the collection though?
Heading over to the circuit in the 570S Spider that McLaren Auckland have very kind leaned me to drive for a few days, we then join up with approximately 30 other participants and their cars at one of New Zealand's major race tracks; Hampdon Downs. With the day featuring numerous aspects, let's focus on the track laps with both cars as well as exploring the different cars present at the event.
As well as the road models on show, we can also see one of the four 570 GT4 cars that are in New Zealand as well as the dealership's own 1973 M23A Formula 1 cars as driven by Denny Hulme.
A special thanks goes to the Giltrap Group and McLaren Auckland for the opportunity to join them for the day, as well as the other guests taking part for their hospitality and kindness.

same with me😐 at first I really didn't think all that much of it🤨 especially with it coming after the amazing 675lt. but after all these videos, and seeing 2 in person! I'm sold, it looks outstanding!😍. can't wait for a LT version to drop😃👍👍. I have alot More respect for McLaren now than when they first dropped the mp4-12c( that car never really grew on me)

Me too! :-) Car has grown on me but still don't like the odd Speedometer... I like the Dark Red MSO version with the gold wheels and the complete Orange version from HRE wheels! ;-)
at the beginning I didn't like the 720s, but I like it more and more every day

That 720S is one fantastic car both in looks and what I could see on track. When your clip showed the cars going by the downshifts were so crisp and the sound.....OMG!!!

Not enough UA-camrs spec there cars with saddle brown interior! That’s one of the best specs I’ve seen on a 720s.
Great vid as usual but... The M23 chassis was driven by Emerson Fittipaldi in 1974 when he was world champion. James was WDC in 1976 - but yes still in the M23 chassis...
damn Shmee you just keep dropping top notch videos!! I love the look of the 675lt, but I prefer the practicallity of the 720s!! so yes you should get a 720s, since you've already had 2 675s you'd be a good person to explain the differences between the 2😉 thanks again for the awesome videos👍👍

I prefer the 720s better than the 675LT both in terms of its looks and performance. But I like the 675LT a lot too!

Not sure if you know .... both Denny Hulme and Bruce McLaren passed away, while racing, behind the wheel. Bruce at the Goodwood racing circuit behind the wheel of his McLaren M8D CanAm racing car. And Denny Hulme at the Bathurst racing circuit behind the wheel of a BMW M3 ....an often forgotten McLaren test driver Timmy Mayer, Teddy Mayer's younger brother, also passed away behind the wheel of a Cooper F1 racing car at a racing circuit at Tasmania, Longford ...

If I was a new customer wanting to buy a McLaren and had no bar on money, I would have a bit of trouble deciding between the 720S, 675LT and 570S. All 3 of them are awesome in their own right as cars.

I'm a huge fan of Tommy Kendall. The nicest person you'd ever want to meet. Say hello from me please. He got in a wicked racing accident years ago. Destroyed his ankles into little tiny bits but still managed to continue his racing career successfully. Just realized you two look an aw-full lot a like. He works the booth explaining the race alot. Lemans type sportcars.
720LT is coming in late 2019-right?
Thanks Tony Quinn for turning Hampton Downs into what it is today. Been there a bunch of times before the renovations, and it was fun seeing Ferrari F1 cars and superbikes blasting round, but it's much cooler now

I'll probably never drive either one to compare, but for looks, i prefer the 675 over the 720. Quite a compliment for the instructor to say he was able to relax a bit! I guess your turn in the TT races helped!

Only the drag racing at the start was in reverse direction. All the rest of the track day was in the normal clockwise direction. They cannot run the full track in reverse.

When the 720s first came out, I thought it was ugly and that McLaren messed up. Now, however, I think it looks incredible.
Mclaren is a brand that you won't like it on a first look. You will only like it when you have a chance to drive it out onto the road and the track to figure out what the car is capable of, what its characteristics was and what is the feedback you get from the car. Just like me, when I just know Mclaren, I doesn't interested in it at all but after I have a chance to drove my friend's Mclaren 675LT, I completely fall in love with Mclaren and ended up owning 3 of them which is the Mclaren 570S, Mclaren 675LT and the Mclaren 720S. So, the point is, Mclaren is a car that worth to own and drive. If you never drive one and understand it, you never feel the same as I feel.

I just went from 675 LT two 720 S you won’t regret it step it up trust me
hold on to the LT, and wait for the 765?LT it will be an absolute beast with the tech from the senna and bp23 trickling down to it by then.
Maybe APEX will have theirs by the time you get there with them for the track event. As Robert is getting one, it will be a good chance, if its there anyway. Then you can go back to back. Though, I think you should get the LT version when it comes around. You should have enough pull to get one.
