I find funny those who have posted this is too fast. That is often posted by those who don't have the technique to play at these types of tempi...not that I do. Secondly, its meant to depict the flight of a hummingbird. If you've ever tried to watch its wings beat, it's too fast for the human eye. This performance at this tempo conveys this beautifully, with no sacrifice of musical shape, tone, phrasing, etc. It is speed employed in the service of the music. Bravo!
Wonderful! Measured in the dynamics, a clean, rounded and powerful tone, excelent rythm, and an astonishing presence on stage, Marco aims to be one of the greatest!! He gives us a masterclass of how to play on stage!!
This is a piece that is usually played as an encore at the end of a concert, it is supposed to be played as fast as you can as long as you don't mess up and keep a good tone, mr. Tamayo achieves this with ease, bravo.
@govertgoed I agree with dsarkissian, this is the gold standard. The speed does not detract from the passion of this performance. Especially at 0:54, the cascade of notes is beautiful and reminds me of a harp in its execution. Bravo Marco!
You are COMPLETELY WRONG. This piece is to be played as fast as possible. "Unfortunely", just a few players have this astounding speed. This piece at a slow tempo would be very bad. In simples terms, it's about a fast bird. Very fast. So, it MUST be played very fast. This is the best version I've ever seen. Sorry for my bad English.
We have not to run with the head, up side down. We were made to walk with the feets. Never consider musical works called studies as the word shows. Studies also contain lot of music. The basic movements and the way to combine them are to be learned in other works and not in a ultrasonic piece like Colibrí. So, there is no need to train anything here. All what mater is to play it well and imitating the fly of the birds, as you may have seen, you cannot see their wings beat. That is the meaning of the repeated notes. The accents are to be played clear and with decision. So: why to discuss about if i-m or p-m? A conservative idea of the performance in guitar is not what goes about right? otherwise, we can go back to morse codes and forget the iphones... best regards to all.
Prolly the best I've seen on youtube, some too fast, some too slow, some too poorly phrased, this one just right. I would like to hear the studio version, noise and whatnot clapping etc all out of the picture. Good job.
Wonderful tremolando in the right hand. One good way to build up individual finger strength in the right hand is to practice up/down strokes with each finger. You probably wouldn't play the piece this way but it helps to build the muscles in the fingers.
Just found that Chanterelle Verlag Germnay has in the Catalogue Marco Tamayo's book about technique. Greta that this one will come finally out. Looking forward...
Bravo! Excellent version! I just play it as fast as possible, even if it affects the even tempo. I think as a lighthearted 'showstopper' that's what people want from this piece, but you play it both evenly & very fast!
Saludos
technically good, but too fast this song is characterized by its speed, but, ironically, it looses all of it's soul if you put in too much speed. this is why this is such a difficult piece
I have tried this piece using different approaches with my right hand but without much effect.. Is it possible for u to give me some tips or send me the score with the right hand fingering u have used?? Great performance!!
Hola... solo lo digo porque al final no deja que se oigan los armónicos, es decir los acorta en tiempo y apenas se oyeron... solo fué un comentario y digo que es bueno pero que "su forma de tocar" es demasiado rápida... bueno eso es todo, saludos

Some people find comfort in degrading others who achieve levels that they themselves can’t achieve.
This performance IMO should be the GOLD STANDARD! BRAVO!!!!
Técnica soberbia y claras intenciones musicales. Felicitaciones!
Tamayo is absolutely fantastic in all of these videos. Absolutely has to be among the very best in the world in this field.

This piece is not so rapid is a bit a slow mas but good since your want the joke it is to feel the music
You sir, have my both my congratulations and my extreme hatred for playing this so well.
Esto fue en la Habana yo creo. ?
Is that like a 3/4 guitar or smething?

WOW ,,,,,,,, Perfect even better than Pepe Romero
technically good, but too fast
this song is characterized by its speed, but, ironically, it looses all of it's soul if you put in too much speed.
this is why this is such a difficult piece
he uses two fingers..
and a sometimes use p i and p m

Great performance!!
(posting is an answer to bossanovaboy!!!!)
bravo il finale un po' troppo veloce ma bravo
;)
TAENA, PARANG LAPLAP. pati dila ko di kaya bilis niya
Bit too fast but perfect sonority and execution....
I suppose one feels better by saying something is ‘too’ this or that when the person saying it could never achieve that level of excellence.
For this to be played too fast, it would have to exceed 60 notes per second -- the beat of a hummingbird's wings.
too fast it doesnt sound like apreciating the sound nice skills right but the piece can be enjoyed slow
much, much better than john williams ..

Very good technique, but in my opinion its played way too fast. I think it takes the feeling away.
too fast for me... you can't even taste the song
La verdad es demasiado rápido respecto a su compás, mal tiempo, aunque suena bien
no,no,no demasiado rápido, asi no es la pieza
WOW ,,,,,,,, Perfect even better than Pepe Romero
