Hey! Non-alcoholic beer has a lot of different reasons to be loved much: 1) You hate alcohol but love the taste of a cold beer in summer. 2) You are not allowed to drink alcohol because of health reasons or pregnancy but love the taste. 3) You are celebrating something but you're also a reliable driver and want to go home using your own car instead a taxi. 4) You like the various beer-mix-beverages but want to consume them without the risk of getting drunk. And so on...... As a German I often wondered why we love to complain so much. And I found a reason. It is just my guess, never researched any survey about this or so, but: It might be because of our history. Imagine the destroyed cities after WW2, and the people who had to put up everything again - I guess that finding someone who suffered just like you did, and discovering common ground in suffering created a kind of closeness. People felt they were not alone and like we say "Geteiltes Leid ist halbes Leid". Which literally translates to "Shared suffering is half the suffering", meaning that it can ease your mind when you share your problems with someone. And as time went by, we still kept complaining about little things like the weather or the train delay, because the big problems were solved but we still liked to look for common ground with others around us. Okay, I know, a theory which not everyone will like but it is just my personal idea about why we constantly complain instead of seeing the good and positive things surrounding us. Sauces - well I am a sauce lover too. Maybe because lots of our side dishes are a bit boring and dry like cooked potatoes (Salzkartoffeln), Semmelknödel oder Kartoffelknödel, noodles (they are calling for sauce, aren't they?). But I am talking about real sauces (like a good roast gives, a self made tomato sauce or cream and mushrooms, that kind!), not ketchup, mayo or mustard. Though I am German I rarely use ketchup, I hate mustard and ... okay I take my French Fries with mayo! :)
I’m totally with you on the topic of sauce! I guess we call these “gravy” in Canada, but I LOVE them! Not a huge mustard/mayo fan though. And love your deep dive into the complaining… I also had a similar thought and I think it’s a very fair one too. I think a lot of the “German stereotypes” that are still often true today (especially with older generations) all stem from the turbulent history
@@lifeingermany_ yeah.... there may be more reasons, for example that a society, so keen on being efficient and with a huge perfectionism can never be really satisfied because nothing has ever been perfect on this planet. And what du unsatisfied people do? Exactly, they keep complaining :D
Fun fact about complaining: When I went to school many years ago, we learned how to correctly file a written complaint so that people will read it and take it seriously. You may call that the science (or art) of complaining if you like. It's basically three simple steps: 1. Describe the situation you're complaining about, 2. describe how and why it annoys you, and 3. make a suggestion for a solution. Oh, yes, and then there's 4. Stay friendly!
I'm sorry Jenna, but someone has to tell you the probably shocking news as you obviously didn't read the fine print when coming to Germany in the first place. But it is as it is. By living in Germany for more than 10 years now, incorporating German habits and such basically becoming German, you are not allowed to emigrate to another country anymore, be it Malta or wherever. 🤷🏻♂Only travel for recreational purposes like vacation / holiday is still possible. But I'm sure you noticed it in the meantime, therefore I'm excited about the upcoming video you announced. 😋😉😅
That’s basically what the Grundkenntnistest Lehrer told my son to answer at the Gemeinde interview in Switzerland. “What can we do to improve?” Answer ; I can’t complain about anything “ 😂
What do you mean you "need" pickup trucks in Canada lol? The people I see driving them are, like, oil and gas engineers, not people working on a farm. The part about complaining-as-small-talk made me laugh, its very much a thing in France too.
Non-alcoholic beer is great when you have to drive or when pregnant or if you just don't like the side effects of alcohol but the taste of beer. I personally don't like beer but I love Radler. So, when I was pregnant, I was very happy that there were non-alcoholic options. 💖
@lifeingermany_ I don't see how where the Uber parked is your problem at all. Sounds to me like the driver was mad that he got caught and didn't want to pay the fine. Hopefully, your husband told him to go take a hike.
If you feel like moving to another country automatically you will search for things you don't like where you are. Living 30 years all over the world (including a lot of third world countries) has learned me not to complain much about minor things and Germany in general. I move to Asia this year, and will embrace the good stuff. The negative I just laugh about. Get bored when youtubers mention the same old boring predjudices over and over. Anyone who feels uncomfortable in Germany should move, make new experiences - and in 10 years we certainly have a video complauning about Malta😂 Nevertheless, wish you and your family a good start and wonderful new memories. New beginnings are always exciting. By the way, no one in ny family has mayo at home😂.
Every country definitely has its pros and cons! That’s for sure! I lived half a year in Thailand during university. I loved SO much, but was also so happy to go back to Canada afterwards. Lived some months in India as well, that was a bit tougher 💛 but nonetheless a great experience! I have complains about them all, but also so many fond memories 🥰
What I don't like about us Germans at all is that we are sometimes harsh. F.e. my older brother is living in Tasmania. I was so surprised how kind the Australians had been. Back at the airport in Frankfurt someone crashed his luggage cart into my heels and staring at me (why are you standing so stupid in my way?). Welcome home. 🤣
They put mayo on everything??? I know ONE person, who does that. He is dutch. And he needed surgery at the age of 60 to his obstructed arteries. And then sauces are the epitomy of the art of cooking. And we love them .The items you showed, are no sauces at all. Mustard , mayo and things like that really are not considered beeing a sauce.. You love dry chicken meat with dry potatoes? We don't. We make a lovely sauce, to moisture up and give it a delicious flavor. That takes the most effort to prepare and round up a meal to somthing delicious. Not just taste wise, but also texture wise. Just preparing and eating dry meat and dry potatoes we would not even call cooking or a complete meal. Sometimes we have to gulp somthing in a hurry . But never cook like that. Good luck in Malta, the home of Mafia residences, corruption , free press suppression and crime and money laundering.. Russian gangsters and Oligarchs get EU passports there by corrupting officials, and they do that in large numbers, undermine our economy by money laundring. They even don't know the right side of the street. I stayed there on a sailing trip for one week, and was not the only one who got robbed.
Complaining is German "Leitkultur" (as a German, I really wish it wasn't, it's exhausting :( ).. Strangely, this is never mentioned by those who always want to talk about Leitkultur.
was it your fault ? certainly not when HE selected that spot. but IF you apologized to him and to the man who took the photo, you admitted it being your fault. btw: when i use a taxi, i explicitly tell the driver to stop where possible, even tell him to stop a little more distant if stopping is prohibited, but mostly they just do it anyway and also ignore other traffic rules, and then THEY are also responsible for fines themselves ... that they rarely get :-(
Maybe you need to get out of the city. Not saying that people in the countryside don't complain. In fact farmers are pros when it comes to complaining (it's too dry, too rainy, and let's not start about government or bureaucracy...). But we have our maybe subtle ways of enjoying things. Spring is around the corner, is a phrase I've heard a lot lately, when people took advantage of a few sunbeams by moving chairs outside and digging up some soil. 😊 Actually it might be gardening that makes people in the countryside happier and less likely to complain. 😂
I had a Weißwurstfrühstück this Sunday morning, and an alcohol-free beer. It's the best option because you can't eat Weißwurst without beer, and you don't want to get in trouble with the Bavarian police. And I must say, these non-alcoholic beers have improved a lot over the years, they almost taste like "real" beer. If you like beer and want to legally drive your car, they're definitely a good choice.

Because parking in such an area the fee is 20 Euro not 50. So the uber driver may wants to make some extra Money. …and of cause I am Right! 😜 Good luck!
YES : check to be sure that it is no scam attempt (and it certainly is, when he told you where to go), BUT ALSO : fines increase all the time. i just googled and found 25€ for simple wrong parking, 55€ in special locations (eg _"Sperrflächen"_ or emergency access areas), and possibly even more plus an additional point eg when you blocked or endangered someone (like parking on bicycle lanes, or blocking emergency vehicles)
The urge of thinking that we're always right is probably a marker on some obscure gene in our DNA. We just can't halp it. It's just like with you Canadians - you are a friendly and polite people, but the second someone puts a hockey stick in your hands you become total maniacs...😁💛 Have you ever heard of the saying that to Germans their car is their favourite child? Most of us just love our cars. Spending time with your wife on a picnic on a Saturday or give your car a thorough cleanup? Hmmmm - very difficult choice to make...🤡💛 And sauce? Oh come on, is there anything better than having potatoes and sauce, squeeze and mash them together and have that pile of greasy happiness? It's pure soul food...

I’m not quite sure either haha… my husband refused to pay the cancellation fine and Uber seemed to drop the fees which was good! 👍
Honestly, food is just an excuse to eat huge amounts of sauce in germany. Otherwise we would have to drink it.
