      In all the bickering about trilogy prequels and sequels, it's missed as the best Disney era Star Wars film and fits perfectly with the original trilogy. I also saw New Hope in '77 and saw this with my oldest friend who we used to play all of our Star Wars toys together as kids.
      Both us were kinda shaking and brought back to how terrifying Vader was to our 5 year old selves. I don't think I've had a rush like that in a movie in a long time.

    I am 53 years old. When I saw Rogue One in the theater…I really liked it. Until the end. Then, I loved it! I laughed, I cried (yeah, I admit it). Not just because of the movie…but what that ending did for me. It took me back to 1977, when I was 9 years old. And for that…I thank everyone involved in this film. I got to be 9 again.

He can't do 10000 things at once, you know? And tell me, what exactly was so stupid about this movie? The fact that pretty much all main characters died? Because that was actually really refreshing for Star Wars. This movie was made as extra information on how the rebels got the plans. The phrace "Many Bothans died to bring us this information" has meaning now. It just adds to the already existing story. I thought it was great! So again, tell me what was so "stupid" about the movie.

      Mandalorian was probably the best bit of Star Wars to come out since Empire, just nudging out Rogue One (which had easily taken 2nd place for me). Its everything you want in a Star Wars story. Gritty western feeling; fantastic, memorable droids; a "cool" main character; engaging companions; galaxy spanning, with meaningful travel to other planets; Jawas (Suga has become my new war chant); a great soundtrack (I cant think of a single bit of the score from any sequel movie); etc.

    When I first introduced my wife to Star Wars I started with the prequel trilogy knowing that she would at the very least like the love story and she liked Hayden, the other reason was that Vader’s redemption at the end is more meaningful if you see his fall first. I watched it the other way around and always thought it kinda ruined it because you know what happens. Now having said that I saved this film for last because the emotional impact the final half hour brings is brilliantly done. I remember my wife being upset as everyone was killed but then realized as the plans where handed off and the ship drops knowing who’s ship it is and the overall meaning she was crying but kept saying “it wasn’t for nothing”

    • @plukerpluck
      @plukerpluck 2 роки тому +3

      I've never actually tried it, because.... well... you can't really unwatch something. But I've always wanted to try the 4, 5, 1, 2, 3, 6 order (sometimes skipping 1 entirely, though I disagree). The point being that you get the dramatic reveals and see Vader as a bad guy, then you learn who he is, get his back story, and then finish on a redemption arc and a "true" ending to the story. i.e. best of both worlds.
      It's an interesting idea though. You kind of give up on the idea of finishing an entire story arc in one go, and instead inject the prequels into the middle of the story.

From what I understand, she was a missionary who had been OS for about a year and had no idea that Rogue One had been made. She was a massive Star Wars fan so her friends invited her to watch it. I love this so much and keep coming back to it. Her reactions were so pure and showed what a true fan she is, and my reactions were the same! My mind is fully blown every time I see this because I avoided any media around Rogue One before I saw it in a theatre and so I never even remotely imagined that it would end by being the preceding scene to the first movie. For 40 years, I never once thought about what could have happened in the moments immediately before experiencing that first scene in the first movie in the theatre, so I was totally unprepared for the intense emotional release I felt. Darth Vader was also in a different framing in 1977 and I never conceived of him being actively involved in such a brutal scene only a moment before we were introduced to him. I was completely unprepared to see Leia in this movie, and it just blew my mind. Her reaction when she sees Leia's face is so awesome ... I just love it so much, and I felt the same. It really is the best and most surprising ending to any movie I have ever seen, and to see it, after living through a 40-year gap, is also a part of what made it so intense, plus maybe the first time I ever saw a digital version of a character that looked convincing. The shock felt like discovering something inconceivable about my family or like going back in time and meeting my mother before I was born. I don't know, but it certainly transported me back in time, and I felt it was 1977 again for me for an amazing moment. The feel of the movies and playing with the timeline over decades makes SW so unique in culture. Thank you for posting this, I would never otherwise know that other SW fans feel like I did about this. I can't believe this is only 3 minutes of film -- but seriously the emotional trajectory in that short time was cinematic mastery in storytelling -- and total gift to fans, best ever. Thank you!

    Man, I remember being in the cinemas on my birthday when I saw this. As soon as I heard Vader's breath, I clutched the arm rests or my seat really fucking tightly, my whole body went rigid, I got goosebumps and yelled "OH FUCK!!!" at the top of my lungs (in a full cinema). I had this moment of "it's going to cut away and we wont see it, but that's okay - it's just like the younglings thing. Wow. Cool. I'm happy."
    What followed will stick in my memory forever. As soon as he lurched forwards, I remember tears streaming down my face as I let out the most terrified scream of my life.
    The entire hallway scene.
    I just remember being truly afraid of Vader again. I love watching this - feels like she got what I did from it. My whole childhood was brought back of thinking Vader was the coolest and most badass mofo ever.
