ABOUT THIS FILM
____________________
Lions are one of Africa’s most iconic species. As a guest of Wildfoot Travel, I watched a magnificent pride of 11; two males, six females and three adorable cubs at Kanga Camp, Mana Pools, Zimbabwe.
The Kanga pride
Known as the Kanga pride, this family group had a wide territory surrounding a well known watering hole known as the Kanga Pan.
Watering hole
Located right outside my lodgings at Kanga Camp, the pan is one of the only sources of water for miles around. During the dry season it teems with wildlife.
Lion cubs
First to capture my attention were three six-month-old lion cubs, two males and one female. Lion cubs suckle until around this age, so this was one of the last opportunities to watch this.
Family groups
Females in a pride are typically related; mothers, daughters, grandmothers and sisters. The tighter the unit is the more successful the pride will be in hunting, protecting their territory and raising their young.
Lion pride dynamics
Lionesses leave a pride to give birth secretly and will raise their cubs alone until they are roughly three months old. This ensures that all her kills and milk are given to her own cubs and protects them from rival males - who can kill cubs that don’t belong to them.
Lion greetings
But by this age raising the cubs is a team effort and the cubs happily play with older pride members, jumping and tackling them. Although not all the adults have the same patience their mother does.
Play
This play is key to developing hunting skills and ensuring their survival as adults.
Male's hold territory
Lions are highly territorial and will hold the same area for generations and males do regular boundary walks.
Tree climb
In the heat of the day the cubs climb into the branches of a tree to rest, hidden by its leaves whilst their mum stands guard.
African heat
Lions can spend up to 21 hours a day resting. They only have a few sweat glands, so they conserve their energy when it’s hot and are more active at night when its cooler.
Elephants vs lions
Back at the waterhole, a bull elephant catches the lions’ scent and heads close. Lions here are wary of elephants and conflicts can be violent.
Lions vs antelope
The lions give a signature tail flick, demonstrating they are in the mood to hunt. But the antelope pick up the movement and flee.
Male arrives with cubs
The male appears with the cubs, followed by their mother and the family line up for a drink.

Our country 🇿🇼 is so beautiful, blessed with beautiful people and beautiful spicies. And come to think of it we do a lot more than the world knows to protect all these beautiful spicies from protective laws, anti-poaching measures to drilling boreholes for water during the dry seasons!
Then there are beautiful sunrises and sunsets, I'm yet to see that kind anyway in the world! - ilanga selibantu bahle = a sunset so beautiful making everyone and everything so beautiful!
Zimbabwe is very special amazing landscape wildlife and people 🐘
I was born in Zimbabwe and moved overseas a number of years ago ! Zimbabwe is truly exquisite , loved seeing this video. Wonderful to know they protect the wildlife.
Thank you, it’s like I was there.
Glad you enjoyed it 😊
The mothers’ serious and fierce gaze… even at rest, is profoundly majestic and demands my respect. This was such a magnificent and wondrous moment captured in video. Thank you so much.
Glad you enjoyed it we filmed some of this crouching near the land cruiser to get at eye level to make the most of that amazing gaze
What incredible footage, Robert. You actually do a better job than BBC Earth in my opinion. Would love to see more!
Oh thanks glad you enjoyed the lion’s We strive to make better and better films as a team
Wis I had just a fraction of the budgets that the BBC have
Absolutely amazing! I love your story-telling.
Wow! Just spectacular...🌍
Oh my Mr. Fuller, thank you so much for sharing this fantastic adventure! It was great seeing the waterhole teeming with so much life, and absolutely amazing to see the cubs in their pride in natural habitat. How beautiful to watch them playing, and when mom took them to the tree and told them nap time to watch them obey right away and climb the tree. The little legs and tail dangling down was so cute!
I do so appreciate your wonderful vides and all you do for the animal world! ❤️🙏
So pleased you enjoyed the film and thanks for taking the time to send such a nice message 😊
We love what we do here as a team bringing special wildlife moments from around the world
You have such a way of capturing every important moment, watching your videos I realize that YOU are the one creating the magic and the music you choose is always mesmerizing, it really was like being there. The Greater Kudu was spectacular but the variety of the wildlife at this particular place is amazing. Can’t thank you enough for treating us to this feast. 🙏🏻🥰
Oh thanks so glad you enjoyed it It’s always a team effort bringing a video like this together big up to Will Sam and Ollie that work and traveled with me
He has quite an eye!!! Although yes it's a tribe effort!!!
This movie is incredible. What patience and skill to wait for those moments, drinking water, climbing trees, visiting auntie, capturing daddy lion guarding the perimeter, the hours spent napping. Riveting to watch, their bonding and body contact, the family roles. This should be shown on tv it deserves a global audience! Thank you for all the hard work behind this, @RobertEFuller
Thanks 😊 it’s always a teem effort bringing these films to you all our guide to get us in the right place and my team to help film the magical moments
Loved this so much!! Thank you again for bringing us such a treat❤🐅🐆. The tails and paws hanging from the trees, so sweet!

You did it again,Robert
Thank you,
T.
Glad you enjoyed it it was a pleasure being there with my video team
Lindos e magnificos 👍
Oh my goodness. The little cub's legs dangling from the tree branches while sleeping is so cute and funny. Thanks for sharing! 👍❤
I know wasn’t it amazing 🐾 those cubs were amazing
Thanks for this wonderful video. I was in Zimbabwe in 1981 at the Wankie Game Reserve, now it's called Hwange. I had a wonderful time there. Now everything is destroyed there...
The video is so beautiful, but it reminds me of the Gwaai River Hotel where I lived for a while. Now all that's left is rubble. Everything was shot up and many of my friends were killed. I thought about it all afternoon and cried. This is my downside from this wonderful video.
Oh my, I can only imagine the number of beautiful pictures you have taken. See the 3 little ones in the tree sleeping and drinking water with their little heads together was just amazing. I can even see on your face how excited you get every time you see any animal. Thank you for sharing all of your wonderful journeys .😊
Glad you enjoyed the film on those beautiful lions
@RobertEFuller beautiful is so not even close to these amazing, powerful, and just so much more. I could watch them all of the time.
I hope you've enjoyed the video!

Amazing filming. You are so lucky really enjoyed watching the lions.
Yes very lucky to go there filming with my team
Lions are indeed one of my favourite if not THE favourite of all big cats, and as with tigers I was always fascinated with lions. Their complex prides, bonds with one another, teamwork for cubs succes and hunting strategies. Overall most amazing big cats of the world
Beautiful footage of the lions and cubs Robert at the watering hole. Thier bonds are so sweet you got the time of cubs last feeding from mom how very special when the cubs jumped on mom it was funny memories you will never forget thank you for sharing
Yes it was amazing to see the lions like this in Zimbabwe 😊
Seeing big cats like this always reminds me how all cats share so many common qualities. Just seeing them rub up on eachother any play just makes me think of my cats at home. All in the DNA! Really great seeing you out doing these shoots Robert, along with all the rec work you do at home with the birds!
Yes cats are cat no matter what size they are

Thank you for sharing your rime in Zimbabwe watching the Lion cubs in their last days of suckling before they begin eating only meat. They are so beautiful!
Absolutely fantastic! So many beautiful images. I love how mama "urged" little female to drink, and my heart melted seeing the three of them all lined up drinking their precious water.
Thanks 😊 They were amazing lions sleep a lot so we were very lucky to see them like this
Thank you for the wonderful video. I was leaning in. When I look at these many animals and think that we live on the same planet, I realize the importance of preserving the environment.🌍🤝💫

Thanks glad you enjoyed it 😀
Robert thank you for showing us the wonderful Lion Pride and all the other wonderful wildlife in the Uk and around our world.
Oh thanks glad you are enjoying my channel 😃 keep watching there is plenty more to come
Fascinating! Do the game wardens give them any sort of supplemental food? (may be a really dumb question, I know). They certainly seems unaffected by the close surveillance from humans. Do the lions have to worry about any predators?
It's not a zoo, they don't give any supplemental food.
This is the wild they hunt their own food game wardens only protect them from poachers
Hi 👋 They are wild and catch there own food
Absolutely incredible footage. Thank you so much for sharing it! ❤️
Glad you enjoyed the lions of Kanga camp Zimbabwe
This was a beautiful video. I love your work. I’m always excited when people hear your calm voice start narrating! Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed the film
It’s always a team effort bringing these videos to you our guide helping to get us in the right positions and my crew filming along side me
The lioness was like chill guys I’m just here for some water. 😅
Indeed, they are adorable; except when they eat, but they can't buy it, so it's hunting. Wonderful film, and the lodge where you stayed, was almost in the middle of Africa, so close to that waterhole. It's a fairy tale for me. I followed for 4 years 6 lions, from cub to adult lions, in captivity, every day. lions are stunning, and this film too. Thank you for sharing this beauty💛💚🧡👍👍👍🌹🌿🌾🍀🌱
Robert, that was excellent 👍❤️
Just watching these majestic creatures elephant, lions, all at water hole. Just amazing!!
It’s a beautiful place I have been there back in 1997 I thought it was amazing then, It surpassed my expectations on this trip

Thank you, so very much, for recording and posting this. Your videos always are so peaceful, informative, and it makes me want to go out and put bird snacks around my area to see what pretty birds live around me. Can you (or any viewers reading my comment here) recommend what kind of feed to get? Would a bag of birdseed from walmart do okay? Should I try to get a stand to fill with the seed, or is hanging birdfeeders best?
I live in the uk so no Walmart here we put out mixed seeds peanuts fat bars we get this from a specialist bird seed company as it’s often better quality
Hanging bird feeders from a tree stand or bird table is fine close enough to cover so if hawks fly by the birds can escape
I also feed small birds like wrens away from the main feeders on live mealworms
Good luck
Thanks
Thanks so much for your support! More films from Zimbabwe coming in the New Year!
@@RobertEFuller Amazing! Looking forward to 2024 thanks to you snd your work
What camera did you use for the videos ? The image doesn't have the usual "amateur" vibe. It's like watching a doc on tv. Did you use some kind of filter ?
Hi 👋 me and my team used Sony a1’s and Sony a7s lll’s
DJI Ronan 4D
A lot of time was spent in the edit getting the colours right
ND filters were used on some of the footage to reduce the amount of light getting into the camera
YOU: Have no idea how lucky . you are
I know it’s so special to see lions like this in the wild they spend most of there time sleeping so seeing them like this is just great 👍
