Moonraker is actually very underrated cause initially critics found it silly with the countless gadgets and Roger Moore's jokes. It might be no Goldfinger, Fireball or You only live Twice, but it's actually one of the better Bonds. And infinitely more enjoyable than the bleak and nihilistic Bond movies of the last decade.
"You defy all my attempts to plan an amusing death for you..." Love that line and the deadpan delivery. Like, this actually perfectly explains a lot of the BS in the movie. Drax also looks like the sort of man who would find his enemy getting eaten by his pet python hilarious.
The musical score is indeed great. What really gives me the chills though is Dolly's braces are gone in all recordings of this movie. I saw this in the theater in 1979 and she had braces. A lot of other people remember it too.
Such a classic film! The music in this scene gives me chills and it can relax you within seconds of listening to it. The women in this scene, were they all supermodels in the 70’s? I bet Bond was hoping for a different kind of outcome when he saw them all 😂

I absolutely love this movie. I think it's criminal that Moonraker is rated lower than Quantum of Solace. Moonraker is dumb, but fun as hell. Quantum is just an assault to the eyes, and boring.

I love how every woman who comes out to greet him was seen at some point prior in the film. There’s the women Drax had tea with, the women Drax went quail hunting with, and even the glass factory tour guide
The Asian Drax girl was supposed to be seen by Bond shortly before he meets Goodhead but it was cut out. There’s a photograph of that scene. She was dressed in the yellow uniform Drax’s staff wore.
A very sublime cue by the one and only John Barry. The entire film as he scored it is filled with lofty, magisterial and even funereal at times, as in the “Bond Lured to Pyramid” cue. This is probably owed to the personal tragedy he endured that year when he lost both parents.
A joke that may be lost on many viewers; In a previous film, the bad guy has a metal bridge that throws his victims into a shark tank. So Bond says “ No thank you, I’ll walk around. “ Only to have the trick rock throw him in. I’m sure in the theater , that got a big laugh.
RiP Sir Roger. It’s always good to see you alive and well in your rightful place - immortalised within the Bond archives, whom you portrayed so admirably. Here’s to the wittiest and most charming Bond of them all.
This soundtrack is soooo good I can almost forgive the rubber snake. A great Barry score. One of my many fave Bond sequences is from Moonraker. "Corrine Put Down" still gives me chills every time I see it.
Great music, funny lines, intimidating villain, epic Vaux-le-Vicomte castle, Venice, Rio, Mayan pyramid, trip to the orbit, a henchman turning to the Light Side... Say what you want, this is my most favourite Bond movie.

Old Bond movies are fun and all but they straddle the line between being a campy adult action movie with women and sex being thrown in as much as possible in any context cause'that's what adults like'and'saturday morning cartoon superhero saves the day from evil bad guy against all odds'. This is scene is such a theatrical moment it’s so easy for Bond to be tricked and deceived by women that’s Bonds favorite personal desire but it’s also his weakness his blindspot in this case the villain was ingenious enough to figure that out by having his evil women lure him into a trap.
My Grandma, now a retired teacher, actually copied the lyrics from the film (in VHS 📼) back when I was in grade school, using our TV's subtitle feature and we sang the theme song that evening. Good times.
John Barry's best. Up there with his Walkabout score. Beautiful but also eerie. English composers tend to weave in and out of light and darkness almost seamlessly. They live between hope and melancholia. Ralph Vaughan Williams was a master at that for instance.
This is the first movie I remember seeing actually in the theater. I was way too young to be in a Bond movie, but I'm not sorry (and I tried to convince my mom to let me dress as Jaws that Halloween!)

Cinema is impressive! They blended the Iguazu Falls in Argentina/Brasil with the Tikal pyramids in Guatemala and it looks perfectly natural, it’s fascinating!
