- In this video we show you how to ‘desmog’ a 2020+ bike but this same system is on any of the 12+ machines so these procedures can be used for those machines as well
This is the procedure when converting a street legal or green sticker bike into a race or competition use only track bike.
Removal of this system may violate federal and local emission rules and regulations. Consult all applicable laws and requirements as they pertain to your bike and it’s intended use.
The 20+ bikes only have the one system now and removal makes the bike more reliable for off road race purposes.
You know what I’m talking about if you’ve ever dumped your machine over and had fuel from the tank leak out and flood the canister and then not want to start. Total drag. Removing this system takes care of that problem.
12-19 bikes have an the SAS air pump system and removal of that is covered in a separate video.
All the parts for this procedure are available from Taco Moto or you may already have them in your garage.
If you have anything besides the US EPA map like a Euro off road map or a Vortex or GET ecu you don’t need to worry about the solenoid dongle. With those there’s no scanning of the solenoid so no check engine light is set.
You only need to do something about that with a bike on the US stock map
But if you do need any parts, want us to build you a bike, have any questions, or need help with anything on your machine don't hesitate to call or email us.

Awesome video as always Mike. I like that you explain not just how, but why. Learned a lot about my KTM and how to properly install all my goodies from your posts. Keep up the great work!
Gasoline vapor is heavier than air. It’s the pressure that causes the vapors to leave through the tube.
That’s why the building code requires water heaters inside a garage must be elevated off of the floor because of the potential of gasoline vapor reaching the water heater pilot light or burner flame. If the water heater is inside the home it can be on the floor because nobody stores gasoline inside the house (except for those destined for natural selection).
Sounds like a good idea to just have one of your plug kits in the tool bag even if you don't want to remove everything, just in case you run into a leaky hose or other failure point in the system while on trail. Thanks Mike!
Thanks for the video. After desmoging, Could we just place the hose from the fuel cap into the canister at the right side? Thx
Omg, so informative and well explained. 11/10, this fella is a legend.
Good description of the great smog stuff mystery.. what the heck was that thing attached to your header at around the 9 minute mark?
Originally KTM was PENTON NOT PAYTON!! Named after John Penton the original designer/owner way back in the 60s!! Love Your Videos. Very Helpful!!
Well kinda but not really, KTM was never Penton, Penton’s were KTM’s. KTM was founded in 1934 and did not built bikes under the Penton name until 1968. John did get KTM into the dirt bike business but they were Penton’s built by KTM. Also the KTM name has been changed and changed ownership many times through the years.
If you don’t eliminate the smog equipment make sure you don’t overfill the fuel tank. Have seen guys complain of running issues and the charcoal canister is completely full of fuel. Like mike stated the bike can run quite rich when that happens. This is especially important in hot climates.
One of my hoses to the charcoal canister was full of fuel when I removed it.
Not sure if the canister was to, but I didn’t remove it, and it’s lower hose port didn’t leak fuel.
Hey Mike, I did a oem KTM shorty hose with the check valve for the fuel cap after de-smogging my 2020. I found that my tank was building positive pressure and boiling the fuel. Those little check valves let the air in but not the pressure out. Went back to the stock hose and tucked it like your video.
Good tip. Thanks for that info. We’ve had great luck with the Free Flow brand check valve vent hoses so far w our bikes.
Clear and easy to understand... and good process to follow...thanks man
If you do an ECU do you do anything with the O2sensor on header
Just bought this kit, sent me some stickers and candy too lol. Awesome company!
do you still have your plates on if so have you had any issues?
Still have it on. No issues. Runs cleaner
The root beer candy is always a nice touch.
Top video 👌👌
Do you have a direct link to buy these black plugs ?
GREAT INFO!! Thank you, Mike!
Can you add a free flow hose to the stock system without doing the smog delete?
Yes. Well noted.
I have a 22’ 500 exc-f. Is this the same procedure? Also do you have to do anything to the ecu to delete the smog?
Thanks a million Mike!
The bolt for the kickstand is included in the 2021 parts package from the dealer.
I never got this. Dealer was clueless. lol
I have a 2021 EXC 500 and I agree that the bolt is indeed there.
Thank you, Mike... I learn a lot for your videos.
Hello! Is it necessary to program the cpu if you remove those systems? I removed them and the check engine came on.
Why does it look like you have a o2 censor in the header
One thing I would not do is run the fuel cap vent tube over the motor. Just in case of a tip over the fuel won't run out on top of the motor 👍
Installed the TACO desmog kit and now have the check engine light on. Is this normal? I left the solenoid on. Used the O2 dongle.
I installed these parts, and now there is a check engine light on. You said the black dongle would prevent that. But that is not the case for my 2024 350 excf. I reconnected the solenoid and the light stayed on. What now?
MIKE I NOTICED AFTER TWO YEARS THE LOWER REAR CHARCOAL HOSE WAS DESTROYEDAT THE BEND DUE TO THE MANIFOLD HEAT ALSO THE 10MM? LOWER HOSE CONNECTED TO THE "Y" FITTING WAS FILLED WITH GAS AND THE BOTTOM PLUG WAS ALSO DESTROYED FROM HEAT AS IT LAYS NEXT TO THE HEADER. I LOOKED UP A REPLACEMENT PLUG AND IT COSTS 20.00 . THAT 7"? HOSE THE PLUG FITS INTO LISTS FOR 207.00 ON NUMEROUS MODELS I CHECKED UNDER ROCKY MOUNTAIN OEM PARTS . INSANE
Tacomoto kit much cheaper
Dude… turn your cap lock off and start using commas more lol.
Is this the same procedure for a 2023 EXC-F 500. What about the CO2 sensor system?
Will this be accurate for my 2023 fe501s as well?
Great video Tks again
Has anyone figured out what type of resistor we need to make our homemade dongles at home
Thanks!! Easy to follow.
Will my garage smell like gas with the EVAP system removed on a KTM E500 XC-F?
Potentially yes
Awesome video 👍. Thx. However, can you please tell me where to buy one of those bypass dongle from? (part number, brand/manufacturer or any detail info on it would be great).
I too am searching for the answer to this question. I have TacoMoto Athena GET ECU, Smog delete and 02 Plug. Would be great to have a video on what to do with the O2 plug.
I have a 2019 300 XCW TPI, it also has a vent hose that connects to the frame but after that I have no idea where it gos, any ideas?
No where. You don’t have this system 🤘🏽
Where can we purchase those little rubber plugs which are high heat resistant?
tacomoto.co/products/smog-delete-kit
Is this only for the US models ? I have a 2020 EXC.f with none of these.
Yes, North American spec bikes
Personally, I just leave all the EVAP equipment on my bikes. It's only a few ounces and there is no gain in power, economy, or fueling. That said, if it was causing a drivability issue, I'd modify it too.
Is this the same process on the 2021 500 exc-f?
Sounds like it
Why would you relocate the horn on a closed course competition machine?? :)
So it’s not caked up w mud when you want to honk at other racers
why i avoid 2020+. would i have to worry about this on a 2018?
Yes. Even more actually because the 2018 has an injector module on the right leg side of the engine that needs to be removed and plugged with a nut.
Do U ever use fuel injector cleaner in 500? Do U sell replacement overflow canister, if not do U have OEM part number TKS
Yes, we clean our injectors about every 200 hours.
Here’s the canister we’ve used

Whaat are the benefits?
Just cap the throttle body and done
Valid option
“What are the benefits”
Reliability
Tyrel Thibault so you’re doing this and leaving the hoses? Won’t throw any codes?
@@tyrelthibault5264can you explain that for a newbie?
This entire Desmog can be accomplished by capping the one brass vacuum port on the right leg side of the engine he showed?
Does that little electronic module not still need to be unplugged to stop it from powering on?
And does it still need an ECU after this?
if i do this and ride on the road will they actually inspect it ?
Who’s ‘they’
@@TACOMOTOCO 🤣🤣🤣🤣👍🏼
Why the XCF non road snowed?
