    Another great video, gonna take my reeds out of my '23 500 exc-f and put them in my 300xcw. Hoping for some gains on my 500, she's not as snappy as I want.

    Thank you for explaining who this is mostly for. I am a trail rider, as you said, 2nd 3rd and maybe 4th. So I am fine leaving this in. I just saw another video where he said to absolutely take them out, or your bike will blow up and send him the ECU for a tune.

    Coming late to the party. My 2023 FE 450 does not have intake reeds nor a 02 sensor. My pipe has a bolt in the bung. If KTM/Husqvarna made the bike like this I doubt there is any negative issue. In my state I was able to plate it. Will be making it a dual sport with Taco Moto parts. Mike is the best!

    Hey there love your videos! Question. I just purchased a 2019 KTM 250 excf with 6 hours. I noticed the evap solenoid was stuffed into the airbox. so its been desmogged. I don't have this intake reed either. I don't see an after market ecu. Im left wondering if they did it correctly or if anything needs to be done? I know theres the issue of startup not having that fuel from the charcoal canister, I do feel like it doesn't start as quickly as it could specially when it got hot on the trail. Anyways... I did an Oil change, it was pretty dirty... I put only 4 hours on it in trails, mostly 1st and 2nd gear stuff.. and when I came out onto a gravel road and was flying through the gears it bogged out bad in 4th gear. Being curious after that I did a motocross style launch and in 3rd it just shut off when I twist the throttle too fast. It was even making a rattle noise when I turned the bike back on that scared me. shut it off and let it sit for a bit, restarted it...noise was gone....road it home. Now just idling if I twist the throttle quick for a big rev it'll just die. Judging by the oil being that dirty I'm going to assume they didn't do other maintenance things, The bike also could have sat for an unknown amount of time. Im going to change the spark plug, fuel filters and put in a fresh air filter. I just wonder if its related to the desmogging in any way. I know its hard to say without seeing the bike. Any knowledge would be appreciated

  • @Hoser1mVm

    2019 450 EXCF SIX DAYS - so leave in for low end grunt, and if removed - do exhaust and ECU.
    Or ok of just billet exhaust tip, no ECU? Slavens says messing with either without ECU redo leans things out too much?

    • @Heliumisleaving
      @Heliumisleaving 10 місяців тому

      Yes, that is correct. Air filter should be cleaned or replaced as it gets dirty. I check mine just about every off road ride. I have 3 filters and skins so I don't have to clean regularly. Read owner's manual on regular maintenance. There are other items to check regularly.

  • @flippindirty9709

    Am I the only one that HATED this mod? I took out the reed box, and then eventually replaced the airbox boot with one out of the SX-F that is a simple tube. The bike BOGS badly off the bottom end... Then I took it from sea level riding to 10k - 13k altitude and it was absolutely garbage - ZERO bottom end.... I ended up cutting up a hard plastic jug/bottle to coil it up in the intake tract to try to reduce the diameter of the intake so that it would create some actual intake velocity. It helped, but I'm putting the Reed box back in.

    Same procedure for a '22 500 EXC-F? Does any ECU programming need to be done after this is done? Running stock ECU for the time being. Is this still a good HP increase for a trail rider?

      @@dh-flies agreed-after researching the wisdom of the interwebs, I can conclude that the answer is yes. Or no. Bunch of people say they removed the reeds and there was a big improvement with the stock ECU. Others say it’s only there on the EXCs for sound management. And others say it changes the air intake so much that you need an ECU reprogram to match the fuel delivery. And with that, probably some changes on the exhaust side as well. Mine keeps popping out, so I’m just going to remove it and see how it goes. Will report back with an update. If I remember. 😉
