That's why McDonald's and In-N-Out uses red and yellow in their brand colors. Red for increasing our appetite, and yellow indicates speed (for fast food).
Love this stuff. I work in the semiconductor industry and we often travel to S Korea for work. When at home (in Gloucester, MA) some of us occasionally get together at lunch and prepare budae jigae in a conference room using an electric skillet. Everyone is assigned an ingredient to bring in. I haven't been to Korea in almost six years, looking forward to my next trip. The food is incredible. Cheers.
It's actually very popular among young Koreans for this exact reason. If you drink too much the night before, go out with your friends the next day to have some of this and half a gallon of water, and you'll be feeling... well, you won't feel as bad as you were.
This dish actually got its origins because of food shortages in Korea during the Korean war, so Korean natives would go to American army bases to get cheap, processed meats. Then one restaurant owner started making stews with them and that's how this dish got started. So war and famine birthed this.
I made this for my family and it was delicious! The sauce is absolute fab! I used less spicy red pepper powder, so it didn't turn out too spicy. Also, the sauce is great on cold naengmyun, aka 물냉면! Thank you for the recipe~ ♡
Omg!!! That looks so freaking good! Watching this in the middle of the night while hungry is so not helping. I seriously need to try this. Thanks for sharing this!
I've always loved Korean food, but I always thought it was too hard to make at home. You're videos are so helpful and delicious! I'm so happy I can make this stew whenever I want :) Thank you!
I have ZERO skills in cooking, but since moving in with my bf(He's Korean) I know he's been missing his moms cooking so I've been studying your videos and using your recipes, and he loves them! Not as good as his moms cooking of course, lol, but thank you for helping me learn to cook Korean meals for him!!!!
Love, love, love your recipes!!! We are Australian and have started cooking your recipes, first was Bibimbap and now your shaking beef. Really like the fact that your hubby is there tasting your food and very encouraging. Stay happy
AMAZING RECIPE! A lot of different ingredients though: sauce; used gochujang instead of gochugaru, left out rice wine, and used miso instead of Korean miso. Stew: used chicken breast, steak, and bok choy instead of most of place of most processed meat. Left out cheese, enoki mushrooms, and baked beans (not a fan). Turned out REALLY good! Very comforting and savory taste for cold weathers!
Omg this was the BEST recipe I’ve EVER MADE! I’ve never made Korean food before and this was an absolute HIT! The only thing I did different was substitute spam and hot dogs for fish cake and chicken thighs since I don’t eat pork. But WOW thank you so much for this recipe!
My dad made this yesterday for us to eat!! We loved it so much! Since we already know how it tastes in korea we loved this so much! Thankyou for the wonderful recipe 🌸🌸
I’ve made this several times and is one of my absolute favorite & go-to for hotpot. But because most of the ingredients are processed food, we replace them instead. Thank you Seonkyoung!!!
This is the best budae jjigae recipe I have found in like EVER... btw, your recipes are the best because I have found I don’t have to follow them exactly, they are very flexible and allow me to change some ingredients if I don’t have what you are suggesting. This is proof you have the best recipes because other ones taste bad if you change the smallest thing in them! Keep up the good work girl!!!
this is legit, followed most of the steps and i ended up recreating the smell and flavor of an old Korean restaurant i used to go to but sadly closed down, thank you very much :D, much nostalgia induced.
My sister just cooked this using your recipe. It was AMAZING 🤤 I’m going to have to eat this more then once a year 😂. She served it with sticky rice 🍚😋
I first heard about Army base Stew when I was watching an episode of Kpop, The Boyz -the 100, episode 13 when the kids made it. So I looked it up! Glad I did, looks delish and simple to make.
Tried this last night with raclette and it’s literally the best Budae Jjigae I’ve EVER HAD!!!!!!! Used chicken stock instead and still mind blowingly amazeballs 😍
Thank you so much! I made this last night and my family loved it. I had it once I was visiting Dallas and I followed your instructions and it turned out just like what I had in Dallas except I added bacon:) yummm!
I usually put some cabbage and radish sprout to balance out the greasiness of the processed meat. It tastes much lighter :D However, I do eat budae Jjigae only once a year.
i hope you can see how drooling am i watching you and your husband eating this food... i can't wait to make my own buadae jjigae.. thanks for the recipe Seonkyoung Longest!
your recipes are always so delicious looking, I love the quality and content you have every single time. I wish I was able to try everything exactly how you prepare it, your husband is a lucky man :)
Tried this recipe but I couldn’t find Korean red pepper flakes at the Asian market, so I substituted it with red pepper paste that has garlic in it and added less garlic cloves to the sauce itself. It turned out really amazing!!! And I’m sure mine was less spicy than what it would’ve been if I used the red pepper powder, which is great for my tastebuds lol.
I like to put a lot of vegetables in my budae jjigae to help balance out all the salt. I use about a cup of each: spinach, cabbage, nori, white onion, and sometimes half a daikon raddish if I'm feeling it. Then I stir fry some baby bok choy in about two tablespoons of the broth to eat as a side dish over the rice. I also sometimes add an extra tablespoon of garlic to the whole pot for extra flavoring.
I dont know anything about those hot pepper flakes. Its easier for me to tell how hot it will be with hot sauce, so its an okay substitute for the heat
My grandad who served in Korea with the U.S army , got a chance to try some of this Stew after being fatally wounded by a bayonet in the Arm Pit . Fast forward 56 years later , me, my dad, my grandma and him flew to Korea to visit a dying friend he met during the war who unfortunately passed due to a Brain Tumor . Before leaving Korea we managed to find a restaurant serving Budae Jjigae , man good times .
I love how bubbly you are and whatever you cook look sooo yummy! Im a Malaysian and a Korean dish virgin but your vid is about to change that. Thank you!
I just told my boyfriend: "I wish I was lesbian and married to a great cooking wife!" he gave me a very dirty look..... maybe he's hungry....me too, baby....me too....

I first had this in Suwon Korea outside the Samsung factory. It's been a favorite ever since. Amazing!

There are some foods you'll remember for the rest of your life, and this is definitely one of those foods
She is so sassy and cute xD. Reminds me of my mom or my aunty

I usually put some cabbage and radish sprout to balance out the greasiness of the processed meat. It tastes much lighter :D

This is an amazing dish especially when made, as she said, in Ouijambu (Uijengbu), where I had it many times while stationed at Camp Stanley.
Love, how much you enjoy eating your food afterwards!
What can i put if i dont have a rice wine
You can skip the rice wine!
Isnt she the cutest!?!

I've never heard of baked beans going in. is that part of the recipe where you're from?
+Mike Paek all Busan jjigae includes baked beans.
Oh really? I never knew that. Keep it up.
every Budae JJigae has it.
Finally!!!!!! You're one of the best cooks on UA-cam!!!!! Your recipes are sooooo easy to follow! love you
Thank you so much!! ❤️❤️❤️ Love you!! ❤️❤️❤️
That is my boyfriend's favorite food. He is American but he likes hot food. Be aware this can be a bit spicy for ya! :D
I always have to cut back on the amour of red pepper flakes. But I'm working up my tolerance lol
I dont know anything about those hot pepper flakes. Its easier for me to tell how hot it will be with hot sauce, so its an okay substitute for the heat
E Winter it is just moderate hot. unless you add jalapeno or other hot stuff !

Why are her nails blue when putting ingredients in the pot, and yellow when cutting stuff
Arranging pot scene was off-focus so I had to re-film that part. lol
Seonkyoung Longest Makes sense
Your personality is contagious!
instead of American cheese can I add Mozzarella cheese? I really don't like american cheese
+LovelyPeach? Yes you can!
You can also use shredded or crumbled Velveeta, which the oldest recipes actually from the Korean War used. That's the way my ex liked making it. :)
"The sperm" hahahaha xD
I love korean food they use a lil bit of oil, and whenever they made food they just mix it all together and cooked until boiled its very easy 😍
No hate.... But i had to mute the video n just look at the food... Is she a korean?
Obviously
I tried this and modified ur recipe according to my laziness. But it was great! Love it.
I just told my boyfriend: "I wish I was lesbian and married to a great cooking wife!" he gave me a very dirty look..... maybe he's hungry....me too, baby....me too....

Made this yesterday. Tasted better than the ones I've tried at various Korean restaurants!
