I just wanna say thank you for all your videos. You are very helpful and I honestly don’t have anybody walking me threw this process. However your videos are so detailed and informative that I feel very confident starting my new business march 11, 2022
Good info man. One nice thing about the smaller trucks besides burning less fuel per mile is being able to get into most regular gas stations. I usually just check the fuel price app to plan my stops.
The problem is if they were simply offering to help for a fee would be one thing, but these companies use a perception of fear. That fear is based on the fact that when the Gov contacts you, your heart begins to race, palms sweat and your read every word to see if they are coming for you. You can be as clean as mountain water and if you think the DOT is coming you break out a sweat. They use that to get your attention and that alone would make me not use them even if they could help. We hired a compliance officer for our company because I didn't want to deal with this anymore. We have 4 Hotshot trucks, 3 Day Cabs and 15 Dump trucks, so you can imagine the amount of this crap we get. Love your channel, you are very detailed and have great relevant content.
That’s it right there. Can’t stand the companies that operate this way. Preying on people that don’t know any better as they create the confusion themselves!
Yes! Watch out for "DOT Compliance Group". Those posers! Their correspondence will lead you to believe they are an official government entity. Rest assured they will call you if ignored. When they called me my only question was, "Are you the US DOT?" Of course their answer was no and what followed was my prompt hang up. They must really think most truckers are stupid to fall for their scam.
Them emails and snail mail gets annoying as all get out. Lol at least I ain’t getting the phone calls and text messages like I did in the first 3 months of business
Could you tell me if DoT officers are looking at the GCVWR at the scales or only seeing if the weight on each axle doesn't go over their GAWR? The reason I ask is Ram actually has weird ratings for their pickups. For example I am about to buy a 5500 DRW but their 3500 is actually rated higher than the 5500 for tow capacities?? The axles, however, are rated higher on the 5500 than the 3500 (actual ratings below). So going by their axle ratings I can actually carry much more with the 5500 but the 3500 for some reason has a higher 'tow capacity and GCVWR'. The 5500 has GVWR of 19,500 and a GCVWR of 37,500. Max trailer rating is 28,760. The 3500 has a GVWR of 14,000 and a GCVWR of 39,100. Max trailer rating is 30,120
Yeah man Ram is super weird with their ratings. You have to make sure you’re looking at your exact setup. DOT isn’t looking at gcwr initially or at all. It’s all about gross/tires/axle ratings. If they’re digging into gcwr then you’ve messed up something real bad and they’re trying to bury you lol. Make sure you’re comparing the trucks as you’ll have them. A regular cab 2wd short wheel base 5500 will have a higher rating than one decked out with all the options. There are packages for higher ratings though. Make sure you talk to someone at the dealership that knows exactly what they’re talking about when it comes to the fleet trucks.
@@LoadMizer okay thank you for the reply. That makes more sense. I've decided to go with a 5500 so I will be sure to talk to them about the ratings as I go. Appreciate your help!
It’s the same in aviation. You get pounded with companies that appear to be the FAA to register your plane. I paid $20 to the FAA but others are getting sucked into this scam and paying $100
question great content by the way. for a hotshot cdl set the fillings i need to operate would be my: DOT/MC AUTHORITY/BOC3/IFTA/UCR/MCS150. Am i on point or am i missing anything my set up will be a 1 ton truck DRW /with a 3 car wedge thats all im doing, No freight whats so ever. just cars i feel like im getting the run around and i saw some of your videos and you seem on point any help will be greatly appreciated, FYI I have my DOT & My MC IS PENDING 21-25 DAYS As per Fmcsa i already drew up a couple of quotes for insurance but before i sign on with insurance i just want to make sure i have everything i need as far as cdl's filling is concerned. thanks
Insurance is what kicks off the authority. IRP (apportioned plates) go hand in hand with IFTA. The rest of those are also required though. Make sure you file your UCR and MCS150 directly through the government websites. UCR should only be about $60 and your MCS150 is free. Don’t go through any of those scammers that will be blowing up your emails. Have your insurance file your BOC3 for you, mine was $20. Good luck 👍
@@LoadMizer thanks..one more question i'm mainly going to be local PA/NJ/MD hauling a 3 car wedge. i was told all i needed was IRP/& IFTA is that correct?. im trying to stay local i have a couple of direct gigs that will keep me busy & a float till this market flips around, equipment is fairly new and paid for same truck as you with 13k miles overhead is low So your thoughts will be greatly appreciated....thanks again
Loves,Pilot/Flying J are the biggest rip-offs in fuel costs. They charge 5-8 cents more for using a credit card. I am a company driver, and am limited to QT & Loves for fuel. I use QT when possible to avoid the extra charge. There's one other place I can fuel at that will charge extra for credit, but using a fuel card, I'm not charged the extras.
if I am a non-cdl OTR driver but still required to follow DOT guidelines, how do I find info on what I need to keep in the truck to pass DOT inspections? I am an independent contractor who gets a % of the load...I don't cover fuel or maintenance of trucks but still must use a paper log or EDS log. I was kind of thrown to the wolves & told to just "figure it out" 🙄🤦♂️
Hey LM, I had someone contact me about leasing on with him instead of going solo, Jason from Jlove flash, he mentioned that he knew you. I’m torn as to running under his authority or use him for just dispatch services.
I haul fuel, all fuel comes from the same tanks the additive is added as you load…. Brand don’t mean anything all diesel is pretty much the same unbranded diesel.. loves and pilot charge high because they give major carriers big breaks at the pump… owner ops should always stay away
Hi, I think I may have asked before but would you mind telling me what a good stand alone GPS would be that would cover commercial truck routing, RVs and single vehicles? Like everyone else I have GPS on my phone but like a stand alone unit attached to my windshield where I can see it. Thanks!
This is a VERY good example. Most of us are single truck owner operators. The drug and alcohol supervisor training class (it’s 2 60 minute videos) is only required if you have more than one CDL employee DRIVING.
Hey what’s up. Man I’m about to start car hauling hotshot soon. I just am doing a lot of research. I already talk to enterprise and I have so much saved. But I feel like driving my 18 wheeler I’m slowly losing more than I’m earning. Lol. Is there a way I can reach out to you for a mentorship or anything? Thanks stay blessed.

Thanks for this. Because ever since I applied for my usdot, calls left and right saying OH we can get you rolling and active for LARGE FEE😂😂😂😂😂
Probably your are one of the few honest people in UA-cam.
Thank you!
There’s a few of us out here, just unfortunately not the majority

I use Mudflap everyday. Filled up at a Road Ranger in Missouri for 2.95 a gallon.
If you get the A to B fuel card you can save 5 cents per gallon more on top of Mudflap

NASTC fuel card will get quite a bit off at TA. I’ve seen as much as .50 a gallon. It’s close to Landstar prices
Yessir I got a buddy that uses that and hits a lot of stops around here we’ll under $3 per gallon on the regular.
Good info my man, thank you.

I use the big chains for showers and that’s it. The price of def at the big 3 are even crazier than diesel fuel. Sometimes $1 more per gallon

Jason is a great guy. I’d highly recommend him 👍
If I’m the owner of the authority, do I have to register my owner operator ifta!?
You don’t have to. They can provide their own apportioned plates and ifta as long as your carrier is listed as the “carrier responsible for safety”.

thank you for the quick response!
Thanks my man, i need this info as I’m in the process of get’n my authority

💯 Hard True Facts.....👌
What about the drug and alcohol class? I got people telling me I need to take this class. Is that true too?
