He’s depressed because he hasn’t been played with for so long. We know that toys suffer from depression when they are either lost and forgotten about or the owner loses all interest in them and they don’t get to be played with or even given away. We saw this with Jessie, Barbie after Molly put her in the donate pile, and even Woody when Bonnie stopped playing with him. Even Gabby Gabby suffered from this occurrence.
Wotso videos made a video about Wheezy today; the reason why Wheezy's squeaker was broken because he was designed to be a bath toy... THAT WASN'T SUPPOSE TO GO IN WATER! Wotso has a thought that maybe when Andy was little, he played with Wheezy in the bath tub and his squeaker broke. Then Andy began to cry to his mom that Wheezy broke which had her say to her son; "Calm down, I'll go get him fixed Andy." and that's when she put him on the shelf.
There was no point. Weezy's squeaker is what made him so great. When he lost it, he was shelved. When he had it, he was loved. He probably didn't ever get around to thinking beyond that, like Woody did, due to how much time he spent on the shelf rather than being played with.
True, but he must've noticed how sad Andy was when his squeaker broke. It's not like Weezy broke and Andy didn't show any signs of sadness. Woody said Andy was was upset. And what is up with the mom promising to fix the toy Andy cares about and then being lazy and shelving it? How hard is it to take a little plastic toy to get fixed? Later we see that she finally got him fixed. She could have at least bought a replacement. Also, he said that he tried calling for help, but no one could hear him. I'm pretty sure they would be able to hear him from the that distance. Also why didn't he try pushing a book off the shelf.
If Weezy saw other toys being gotten rid of when they were broke, then he wouldn't have questioned being put on the shelf. Also, if Weezy really did get so little time, than the mom must have just figured that he would get over it; a lot of kids have a fascination with a new toy, and it usually fades away after a while. She wouldn't have invested money in fixing a toy she figured her kid was going to forget a month down the road, anyways. Calling for help was probably not something Weezy believed would work. If he associated his importance with his squeaker and nobody heard him, he probably thought he wouldn't be wanted by the other toys, either.
I think that it's a bit far fetched that weezy planned that, but it does look like he didn't mind if he was sold or not. In other words I don't think he was trying anything malicous.
Another thing is that Wheezy encouraged Buzz (and more or less the rest of Andy's favourite toys at that time) to go after Woody and bring him back. Maybe at the time he didn't really want them to return because if they didn't that would mean even less competition
Ahoyhoy! that's not all we see of him, we we him again In the opening of the videocassette of Buzz Lightyear of Star Command; the adventure begins. he seems a little secretive when Woody says the tape is jammed and he cannot get it in the VCR.
Meh, this theory is kinda weak in my opinion. I don't think Wheezy can move to save himself, those flippers are too short for his big potato body. Mr Potato head at least has arms that give him some mobility if it came down to it. I don't think we know enough about Wheezy to get a solid idea of his character.
I don't think Wheezy had malicious intent. I think he was just about ready to give up on life, until Woody's attempt to save him showed that he was loved and cared for by the others. I think the short story arc with Wheezy was a subtle metaphor for suicide not being worth it and how thinking that no one cares about you is wrong.
Well there's always that theory that Toys are actually fueled by "children's laughter" or "children's joy", so it's possible that he didn't move during his rescue because his fuel source had simply ran out, I mean remember when Buzz was about to leave and Rocky and the robot guy practically had to be his wheelchair because he still wasn't able to move on his own? So yes, I think it is possible that Weasy was actually trying to be sold in the yard sale, but I don't think it was his intention to get rid of Woody.
there are way to many assumptions on Wheezys character for this theory to work, going by how you said he was depressed it is more likely that he was "suicidal" or the toy equivalent and that's why he did not bother to help but that's just going off the fact he was depressed and and had little to no self-worth but it was still a fun theory so good job
HEY JON I THINK IT WOULD BE AWESOME IF YOU DID A CALAB WITH THE CARLIN BROTHERS ! you all have awesome personalities and I think would do great in a video together !
+Jon Solo I always enjoy watching your theories, you make some of the best. Awesome content, and can't wait for more. I approve all of your theories and believe them.
YAY ANOTHER PIXAR THEORY!!!!! I love your Pixar theories sooo much!!!! They're so interesting and I would never find them myself! And then you always explain them so perfectly!!!! :)
I think that his broken squeaker corrupted him into thinking negative thoughts. Some people have faulty organs and they can't afford surgery to replace them, and either try to become suicidal, or go insane. But when his squeaker was fixed, all of those thoughts seemed to have just vanished out of existence.
I noticed wheezy was gone in toy story 3, and he was apparently was sold to a guy with a dog, because on the thumbnail of the mini film Out, Wheezy is in a dog’s mouth. So does this mean Wheezy is now a dog toy?
If Andy's sister was more than 1 year old and not walking yet, then she was behind. Most children learn to walk just before they're 1 or around the time. If someone is learning to walk at 2 years old that very very late.
I like the idea Also, just coming to me as i finished watching it... Seeing as 'Toy Story 3' is in the future, Lutso (the bear from Sunnyside) wouldn't have been around yet So if Wheezy had gotten sold or passed on, i bet he'd have ended up there and took charge of the place himself
I like this theory! What's funny though is that I played as Wheezy for a themed party we had at the camp I just went to, and I felt just as lonely as Wheezy does in the movie. My friends all dressed up as the other characters, and got instantly recognized, while I was given "Who are you? Are you that penguin guy?". I must say, though, my costume was on point, even down to the "wheezy" voice (that was not planned, and I did not like it).
I think the theory makes sense, but there are some things that are confusing. If Wheezy did truly have depression (which it seems entirely logical that he did), a quick change in his situation (fixed squeaker, better position in Andy's room) wouldn't make the depression go away right then. Typically, depression has prolonged effects due to its psychological nature. Depression creates a chemical shift in the body of the person with it and that doesn't just quickly change back once things get better. But then one can point out that Wheezy is not a human being, so the effects of depression could be different on a toy. Also, depressed people can have good days, and they have the ability to be happy, so being immediately happy makes sense at the end of Toy Story 2. The question comes up, though: Does Wheezy still have depression? Does toy depression differ from human depression? Am I thinking too much about this? Probably xD
I do belive the part about wheasy not caring about his life and owner, but the part about selling Woody has too many varibles, to work as an acuall plan, plus he wouldn't ave enogth time to consive the plan.
I thought he was just a "Woe is me." character who felt he had no purpose and, therefore, didn't care what happened to him. So when Woody shows kindness in saving him from the yard sell, he's happy; but when slipping, too shocked and dependent to care for himself. But, when Wheezy get's a new squeaker - boom- purpose restored because he could now do what he was meant to do.
0:44 Wheezy is an ANOTHER way to begin the plot. If you watched the deleted scenes of where Woody was launched toward the window in Andy's room, you know what I mean.
Maybe Wheezy didn't move his arms because there wasn't a lot of room to move them and he wasn't very flexible in the first place? And maybe he didn't move around to hide from Andy's mom or rescue himself from the yard sale because he just didn't care anymore? There's plenty of evidence to suggest that he was depressed and had given up but anything suggesting that he's actually malevolent is pure speculation. There's no actual evidence here to support that Wheezy was trying to get Woody sold and anyway, how could he have predicted that that would happen in the first place? There's too many things that could go wrong, too many variables, and a very, very VERY slim chance that it would even work. So no, this theory doesn't make sense. I'm pretty sure Wheezy is just there to be symbolic of Woody's emotional state.
Ahoyhoy! on the Buzz Lightyear of Star Command opening on videocassette, Wheezy acts secretive when Woody says the tape is jammed and he cannot get it in the VCR.
Enjoyed this. Your theories are always original and give me something to think about! Here's a question though that I always wondered as a kid: Why is his name Wheezy if his squeaker wasn't always broken?
FYI - babies usually learn to walk between 9 & 12 months old, with the vast majority walking well by the time they're 18 months old. A child learning to walk who is "almost 2" is already delayed.
My theory as a parent, is that Wheezy's squeaker was annoying to Andy's mom because Andy probably squeaked the living daylights out of him. Andy's mom deliberately sabotaged the squeaker and pretended to get it fixed. Wheezy gets back to Andy, but it's only a matter of time before the squeaking goes to far and he's in the next yard sale. I don't think hes evil. He just realizes that as a squeaky toy, he will never be safe in Andy's mom's house..
Noone was sure if anybody was going to go in the the room and wheezy didn't have a lot of of time to react with being in shocked, weak (toys in the toy story world need child interaction to live) wobbling being his movements, the book being behind woody (the only place to hide) and the time span it took for the mother to come in. Woody is just quicker to react. Wheezy being weak and not able to move well explains why he couldn't save himself; His arms wasn't in in a good position to grab on to the collar. His right wing looked trapped in the collar and he was moving his left wing after he started slipping so he was trying to hold on. And how are you going to balance yourself if you are pouncing? He could not save himself.
I believe because if I remember right, even though wheezy didn't care about being thrown out , he still asked woody for help when he was being taking to the yard sale
too continue... he thought the only way for him to be noticed was too get ride of Woody for a little bit. He noticed a yard sell. It was perfect timming. So he let Andys mom take him, he wasn't sure if he was going to be sold or rescued. He knew if he was sold he would be loved again, if he was rescued there would be a chance Woody would get sold. If Woody didn't get sold Wheezy would just have to 'fight' to get back to the top. Wheezy encouraged the other favorite toys to go either because he wanted to get rid of them or because he was to quiet to do it himself. He knew no matter what happened he would be able to make a comeback. He was perfectly fine with what ever happened.
Its an interesting theory, but I think the only reason he didn't help in his own escape is because he couldn't, for you he can't move to well due to him being a 'dog toy' and not being made to have movable legs or arms.
Hi John, Love this theory and like most of your others. Was wondering if you could interpret the line about it being "inevitable" another way. I was thinking that rather than Weazy being depressed he was trying to hint/convince Woody to deliberately go down to the yard sale and wait to get brought by someone. I think this just because by making this comment his intentions could be to get Woody out of the way so he could become Andys favourate toys again like you suvgested in the theory. Furthermore if he was depressed and making a comment about his own inevitability he would reference his own problem (broken sqeeker), however he uses the like "we are just one rip from here... to there" referencing Woodys injury. Like this kind of line is basically saying to Woody because of your injury you might as well sell himself at the yard sale. The line didn't work but circumstance mean weazys objective was complete. I could also make another point that he does it again later as when Buzz is leaving to save Woody he very much wills them on by asking them to "save" Woody without making any hesitation or consideration of the toys safety when walking the streets. This further backs up the theroy of him wanting the other toys out the way as with the other toys unlikely to return it means they are also out the way and leaves Weazy as likely Andys favourate toy and is also more likely to get fixed. i hope you like my interpretation and was wondering if you agree with me?
I don't know if you saw the short called Toy Story: The Time Forgotten, I think I got that right? The dinosaur toys were never played with until the end. Raises the question of how long does the toy need to be played with for to know it's a toy? I'm asking because Buzz didn't put everything together until moving day. These thoughts may or may not throw my thought out the window, but with the length of time Weezy was played with, was it enough for Weezy to realize he's even a penguin in a not so cold environment etc? I may be wrong, but it's a thought
The theory is interesting, I will say that. But he may not be evil, he may just not care what happens to him in the end. If he is still broken then it doesn't matter if Woody comes and rescues him because all that will happen is that he gets put back on the top shelf again once Andy realizes that he is still broken. So why bother trying to stay somewhere you are more likely going to be put back to where you just essentially escaped from. Then the part about him not grabbing on when he was slipping, that is easily explained as well. The way that he is shoved under Buster's collar shows that his arms are pinned under there, he literally can't move them up to save himself, he doesn't even have fingers to grab onto anything. He is shoved under there, arms pinned and forced to rely on Woody to make sure that he stays there otherwise he is going to fall off. Those two points alone blow massive holes into this theory, in the end Wheezy is just a toy that had given up on being played with by Andy and didn't care too much what happened until Woody tried to save him, since he knew that Woody wasn't going to leave him behind.
I agree; it's an interesting theory, but Wheezy is clearly just depressed. That is why he doesn't make much effort to do anything. I don't think he expected Woody to try to save him; a depressed person doesn't believe that others care about them that much. He certainly didn't expect Woody to get into trouble, and he honestly cared about him and didn't want him to be separated from Andy and the toy "family." On top of that, I think he felt some survivor's guilt for sort of being the cause of Woody's crisis, even though it wasn't his fault. And being physically "healed" and loved and played with again, and included in society again after being isolated, can do wonders for a person's mood. 😢🐧 --> 😊🐧 ////Bunny kisses for all!
i do like this theory and i do believe that Wheezy was depressed because he wasn't being played with that much, however i do not believe he was suppose to be a bad guy. In Toy Story 2 when the toys are leaving to bring woody back Wheezy is one of the toys that Wishes the toys going luck and says and i quote " you just gotta bring him back". Wheezy saying this would not make sense with this theory because if he was the bad guy and wanted woody to be removed from the picture to become a favorite toy he wouldn't want Woody to come back and most likely would have either said nothing or tried to convince the charters not to go and bring back woody
“Glorified dog toy” Hmm...dog toy... That raises an interesting question. Do dog toys come to life? And do they like it when dogs play with them? Or do they hate it and live in fear because dogs play with there toys by tearing them up?
There is no way he could have known that Woodie would get picked up, there is no way he could have known that any of the things that happened would happen - it worked out perfectly for him, but he couldn't have known any of it would happen that way ahead of time. You have to establish precognition for theories like this, and there's no reason to think Wheezy had any.
I don't think he is evil, I think he's depressed.
Exactly. Wheezy is not evil. He was never evil, and he never will be.

Yea i think that to
Why didn't wheezy just get off the shelf?
I always wondered that myself. He is a plastic squeaker toy, he would have been fine if he tried jumping off.
There was no point. Weezy's squeaker is what made him so great. When he lost it, he was shelved. When he had it, he was loved. He probably didn't ever get around to thinking beyond that, like Woody did, due to how much time he spent on the shelf rather than being played with.

I think that it's a bit far fetched that weezy planned that, but it does look like he didn't mind if he was sold or not.

Very true.

"Hardly necessary to the plot!?" He's the one that cause Woody to get kidnapped in the first place!!!
True true I was thinking the same thing😊😊😊😉😉😉
Exactly what I thought
Good point
Meh, this theory is kinda weak in my opinion.
I don't think Wheezy can move to save himself, those flippers are too short for his big potato body.

You probably know that Wheezy’s voice actor Joe Ranft died in 2005, which is why Wheezy doesn’t make any appearances afterwards.
The Old Prospector was just a dignified, justifiably depressed, even CARING character-- much like Wheezy himself.
Until he wasn't.
OMG!?! Amazing theory jon! U gave me a while differant perspective on toy story 2 and on wheezy! I believe this theory is true! And damn good vid too!

I thought Wheezy was just too nice to tell Woody that he wanted to be sold.

I think that wheezy is just a sad asmatic pinguin with no plan and just taking advantage of the momment.
The clip at the end of Toy Story 2 where Wheezy says "I feel a song coming up!" could make for a nice meme.
I thought he was just a "Woe is me." character who felt he had no purpose and, therefore, didn't care what happened to him. So when Woody shows kindness in saving him from the yard sell, he's happy; but when slipping, too shocked and dependent to care for himself.

He could not save himself.
it could be true, they made the one link bear evil in 3 because he got replaced

Hey, what is the intro music?
I believe because if I remember right, even though wheezy didn't care about being thrown out , he still asked woody for help when he was being taking to the yard sale
I love the opening theme music!
I always figured that Wheezy was one of Andy's really old toys. I'm not sure why he didn't appear in the first Toy Story, but there could be a reason.
too continue... he thought the only way for him to be noticed was too get ride of Woody for a little bit.
What do you use to make your videos?
Love the new sign-off line. haha
Please tell me the name of your intro song
He might be evil in Toy Story 4 if he appears!
I go with your theorys their dope Jon Solo for life I love your boss keep making more please their dope on your side for life
Its an interesting theory, but I think the only reason he didn't help in his own escape is because he couldn't, for you he can't move to well due to him being a 'dog toy' and not being made to have movable legs or arms.
He's practically, nearly forgotten by Andy like lotso's owner did to him.
Hi John,
Love this theory and like most of your others.
This further backs up the theroy of him wanting the other toys out the way as with the other toys unlikely to return it means they are also out the way and leaves Weazy as likely Andys favourate toy and is also more likely to get fixed.
i hope you like my interpretation and was wondering if you agree with me?
what's the outro music?
I thought this was a Supercarlinbrothers vid at first
what is the melody in the end called ?
Weezy's not evil, he was just playing domino piece. Just watch the bloopers and you'll see that he's naturally accident prone.
I love the music you use. what songs?
What's the name of the intro song?
I don't know if you saw the short called Toy Story: The Time Forgotten, I think I got that right? The dinosaur toys were never played with until the end. Raises the question of how long does the toy need to be played with for to know it's a toy? I'm asking because Buzz didn't put everything together until moving day. These thoughts may or may not throw my thought out the window, but with the length of time Weezy was played with, was it enough for Weezy to realize he's even a penguin in a not so cold environment etc? I may be wrong, but it's a thought
That's a really good Theory Bro!!
I at least enjoyed the idea of this theory. Never really thought about this before
I think he should do some type of conspiracy theory crossover with Jesse Ventura 😂
“Glorified dog toy”
Hmm...dog toy...
That raises an interesting question. Do dog toys come to life? And do they like it when dogs play with them? Or do they hate it and live in fear because dogs play with there toys by tearing them up?
Fact is that originally, Wheezy was going to be a glow-in the dark dog toy before deciding that he was going to be a bath toy.
I never thought about it like that :0
Like The Wrong Trousers taught all of us, never trust a penguin.
Also if you think a little bit, there might be an alliance between Wheezy and the one who found the squeaquer on his things...
WTF i haven't watched your videos in two yours and its so crazy seeing these videos
Jon I wanna follow you on Cartoon Amino but I don't know your username, what's your username?
I watched a Matthew santorio video before this and i thought my phone was broken before realizing that he used the same background music
Interesting theory but I don't buy it. I think Wheezy was just a depressed, but completely innocent toy.
