Gpd has been making netbooks like this for years, this is nothing new. In fact, I believe they just came out with a new one late last year thats quite a bit more powerful than this, albeit more expensive.
I'm a fan of mini laptops , have an old hp-mini no longer usable due to the battery died and I can't find a replacement so will try to split the battery case and install fresh battery cells at some stage , also the barrel Jack for the charger is iffy and needs looking at . Hp-minis have a 10 inch screen , I upgraded the hard drive to 500G and ram to 4G some years ago , also deleted Microsoft and installed Linux Mint distro . Yep I would definitely give that little 7 inch touch screen a look , find them super handy and useful in the car , I can rest it on my steering wheel and do what I need to get done whilst mooching free WiFi .
I think it depends on how you look at it. The Windows pro key and SSD are worth something. For what I use it for it’s kind of cool to have available to use. But it also has some limitations that are hard to get past.
I use an 11.6 inch Acer Spin 1 for work as a teacher, and it's fine. I'm interested in your experience with this new device (but I think the 7 inch screen might be too small for me).
I’ve been using a 8 inch screen on a windows tablet for work for a while. But just the little drop down to a 7-inch does make it a little harder to use for long periods of time. If you connect it to a monitor and have some external peripherals then it becomes more useful.
GPD had revived them in the 2010s in both gaming and laptop form. Competitors later sprang up. GPD dumped the large variety of sizes they used to offer, IDK about the rest of the vendors. The mini PC market seems to have moved towards gaming. Open phones primarily for Linux are planned to do UMPC and phone duty equally well, the software is currently very incomplete.
@@protocetid I guess GPD devices can be considered UMPCs, but they are primarily gaming devices-hence the name, GamePad Digital. Sure, they pass technically just not in spirit.
Just subscribed and awesome video. Im in the market for a mini-laptop and must say this Pipo 7 inch Mini Laptop looks great and price is great on Ali Express.
Really looks like a 2020s specced version version of the original netbooks. 7" these days just feels way too small given we have bigger and faster tablets now. Lastly, not having USB-C charging is a huge negative (one charging cable and adapter for all your needs when you need to travel super light).
I hear that, as I'm now in my early 40's, and got tired of lugging a big laptop bag to work, and switched to a mini backpack with a Nokia T20 Android tablet, and a Jellycomb bluetooth keyboard as my main portable, as it gives me a bigger screen, and keyboard than something like this mini laptop, while still being lightweight, and powerful enough to handle all the daily task I can throw at it with a battery that last all day, and then some without breaking the bank, or my back.
I keep wanting a pocket computer but keep coming back to the idea of a small tablet, SBC computer with web interface and keyboard. Heck, I could even use my phone with a folding keyboard and be even more compact.
I want to install linux on it really bad lmao. I always wanted to waste some money on one of these "modern netbooks" because of how small and cute they are.
I feel it’s not as precise as the old Thinkpad ones. It’s good enough to use to open a video or start a browser. But I find myself just using the touchscreen instead.
@@S-Technology Thanks. I think im gonna order one of these. I collect Palm Tops (Windows CE) units and this is like the ultra version of one of those and updated with the times with software. Thanks again for the video.
I would make sure to copy the drivers from the old unit and then either reinstall windows (or whatever OS you want) on this SSD, or do what I did and use a different 2242 SATA SSD with a fresh install on it.
I made a video where I reinstalled windows on the mini laptop. In the description of that video I have a link to all the drivers I saved from my device. That should fix the touchscreen and the sound. During the reinstall you will also lose the mouse buttons on the keyboard. You need to remap those to get that functionality back also.
I got the 512 model it was about 30$ more. Mine said it came with those specs but it came with J4125 CPU which is 2.0-2.7. came with Intel 600 graphics.and 12gb ram. It is not a bad little thing. Much easier to tot around then my Alienware M17 R2. I don't use the little for much just school work really but it does play games. I played fallout new Vegas on high settings, surprisingly didn't run bad at all. Valhiem I had to turn things down but it is very playable. Many others. So yes you can play games on it if you want. These little things are becoming a big hit. There are a few high-end models with great specs. I am not paying 1200-2200 for a 7 inch gaming PC. Can get decent hand helds for lot cheaper than that. It is neat to see what they are doing with these little PCs.

The fact that you can swop out your hard drive on this quickly is a plus. You could have a few of them ready with different OSs. Or just remove them for security reasons - while the device is not in use.
Yeah the fact you can get to the drive through a little access panel is useful. Removing the drives wouldn't really be the issue. It's that there is the potential for something to be installed in the device that sends your data out in real time as you use it.
@@S-Technology thx for the tip Will be using it for emails and logging into my online diary etc so will be using Wi-Fi/ Bluetooth mainly lol but will be only on for maybe an hour or 2 a day max and not everyday so can keep charged up …
It has a mini HDMI port on the rear. I just used an adapter and it worked for me. I have a not normal setup with a KVM switch attached to my monitor. That way I can easily switch between 4 inputs. And it worked with that setup no problem.
That power input and 1200 x 800 screen resolution are deal breakers for me... If it is nt 1920 x 1080, 2k HD or better, it's like fingernails getting dragged down a chalkboard to me, to look at. Curves shouldn't have tiny jagged edges.

what in side tin, what lid hinges like, do the feel like there going snap off, open to much, or if accidently flatted in the opened position, and what it like it full kited of as desktop replacement, big monitor, full-size keyboard, mouse, can it do anything more that email, and UA-cam video play back, or even that?
Please game on it! I know, it might not be great for gaming, but with a tiny resolution for the tiny screen, it might work out well. It might be preferable to get those for your kids instead of bigger laptops, since it means there is less to carry, so you could take them with you while you go camping even if you have to walk for a while.
You should be able to play anything now days using streaming service like Xbox game pass, PlayStation remote play or Nvidia GeForce now. Of course you would also need an internet connection.

I've been looking for which drivers those are running for a solid month and a half, but either i don't now how to navigate this or there is barely any info/troubleshooting available. contacting the supplier also turned up nothing (either customer support doesnt understand, or, they send you through a wild goose chase in which you won't gain anything of use. i'm at my wits end for this. no drivers, no customer support, barely any information/troubleshooting available that i could find. i scoured reddit and tech forums in multiple languages. and the common consensus, ah tough luck... i'll keep looking but tossing the damn thing aside for a while.
Go to Slagle-Tech.com and take a look at the forum section. There is a portion dedicated just to this little laptop and we have the drivers and fixes for some of the issues. The website is still a mess… I’m lazy, but the forum is helpful.
Yeah. I use it with a Bluetooth mouse all the time. I’ve had it hooked up to a larger monitor, a wireless keyboard, a wired mouse, and a few other items.
I'm glad someone actually bought this! I've been seeing this on my Aliexpress app as well... I'm actually thinking of buying it someday for my new secondary computer. Does the 12GB of RAM and the use of SSD help with performance? My netbook with Intel Atom, 4GB of RAM and eMMC storage is reallyyy slow... Even after formatting :(( Such a shame as well that it didn't come with USB-c charging or something. Around 3 hours is not long enough to use on-the-go!
I use it about every night for a few hours. After reinstalling windows and installing a larger SSD it’s been good for basic tasks. Web browsing, light coding, video viewing are all good options. But I have to charge it every night even with those simple tasks. I would say it’s faster than a intel atom processor.
I reinstalled windows because I did not trust the Chinese Installation. Unfortunately now the track point buttons no longer work and I can not find drivers on the net. Anyone got advice on how to get them working?
Go to www.slagle-tech.com and after taking a look at the amazing website I created, go to the forum section. There are posts in the “mini laptop” area that has the drivers and a way to fix the buttons.

Came across this review while looking around for devices to help me part ways with smartphones. First thing I noticed was it had... Bluetooch? I just lost it laughing at that moment.
This looks right up my alley. I'm thinking about getting a cheaper phone when it's time to replace the one I have and I want to get a tiny windows device to pair with it. I've looked into tablets and there aren't really any good small ones. Having this would really be great because of its size and the physical keyboard. I have no delusions of gaming beyond maybe some Pokemmo or lower end emulation.
It's a good device when paired with something else. I use remote desktop with it and it works well. Just don't try to game with that. A FP Shooter will make you nauseous. haha
I’m pretty sure the connection doesn’t power the laptop. I plugged it into the same variable power bank I use with the barrel to USB-C adapter to power it on the go. The barrel charges the unit. (Power LED and charging icon in windows turn on) the USB-C port doesn’t trigger either.
Linux has a "super resolution" option where you can display effectively double the resolution of what is on display. Since the SSD is removable, you can test this out.
@@eijentwun5509 in the display options of xfce. You can chose a resolution scale or pick a custom one. If you think I'm saying bull; make a Debian Linux VM with xfce or gnome installed and you should see what I'm talking about.
I'd have faith in it being just something to write text edit documents. I could write simple scripts for my stories or a shopping list while in the passenger side of the car of a bustling street, or maybe watch some UA-cam.
Also, if the shell had a less weird color and was a plain black, I would totally buy one. It's technically a UMPC because of its size. It would be an upgrade for me; because of the relatively large pool of ram. If your interested I can upload a trimmed iso of windows 10 IOT enterprise ltsc that has security updates available until 2032. I think windows 11 is bogging the poor thing. Linux has super resolution for intel hd graphics, you can push a higher resolution out of the display but it will get a bit blurry.

I very recently did a 6 month follow up. I like the device and use it everyday still. But there are some compromises with it. Take a look at this here: ua-cam.com/video/96g7WvrNh9g/v-deo.html As for the storage size, that's more specific to your use case. but it's good that you can swap it out if you want to.

Could be the (near?) perfect reincarnation of the netbook.
This thing has better specs then my full sized laptop.
Is this the return of the netbook?
I would like to hope so. Maybe Netbooks 2.0?
@@S-Technology I'd believe so! Just hope they'd catch on like the handhelds are starting to! Especially for the budget range
Wow for a 200$ laptop it’s good but the celeron is pretty slow but with the ssd it’s better
If you connect it to a monitor and have some external peripherals then it becomes more useful.
if it had a LTE modem, it'd be a great phone replacement ;P
I miss UMPCs! Today’s smartphones pretty much made that market obsolete.
@@KonohasYeIlowFlash Bruh I said they made laptop style devices too, look at the GPD Micro and Pocket2.
@@protocetid My bad. I’m surprised anyone would buy these devices.
@@KonohasYeIlowFlash Why is that? Thought you missed UMPCs.
Just subscribed and awesome video. Im in the market for a mini-laptop and must say this Pipo 7 inch Mini Laptop looks great and price is great on Ali Express.
how is the battery life for it base on your usage doing coding and stuff? would like to hear about it in your future video if possible, thanks :)
USB-C seems more delicate than a barrel jack with its tiny pins. I'd be fine with it having both.
I agree with other commenters, trying some games like Minecraft among others would be quite entertaining.
Hmm.. Definitely thinking about it.
I wanna install linux on it so bad!!! I wanna do Gentoo Linux for the fun of it!
I do programming in a GPD Win Max 2. Typing in these mini laptops takes some getting used to.
the win max is barely 'mini'
Hows the eraser mouse thang ? Does it at least work as well as the old Think Pads back in the day ?
I feel it’s not as precise as the old Thinkpad ones. It’s good enough to use to open a video or start a browser. But I find myself just using the touchscreen instead.
@@S-Technology Thanks. I think im gonna order one of these. I collect Palm Tops (Windows CE) units and this is like the ultra version of one of those and updated with the times with software. Thanks again for the video.
I would make sure to copy the drivers from the old unit and then either reinstall windows (or whatever OS you want) on this SSD, or do what I did and use a different 2242 SATA SSD with a fresh install on it.
Do you know where I can get the drivers for the touch screen and sound?
I have used an Toshiba version many years ago. When I was an engineer at Computer Centre.
hello, nice mini laptop! Can you possibly tell me how many volts/amperes the power supply of this computer has at the output? Could it possibly be operated with a power bank using an adapter? thank you.
Looks neat. They should make Version 2 with smaller bezels.
God why'd they have to put the trackpoint under B and N? I"m sure there was some weird clearance issue but that's such a cramped layout.
Hello, could you help me? I reinstalled Windows and now the touch screen doesn't work properly and neither does the sound. I tried several Windows and reinstalled the driver, but it didn't work.
Same thing happened to me and others when you reinstall windows. I made a video about it. If you go to www.slagletech.com and look in the forum under “mini laptop” there’s a tutorial and a link to all the correct drivers for it. Try that and let me know how it goes.
@@S-Technology I think the link is down
@@justinmc1093 Sorry for the delayed response. I made a typo.
Here is a direct link to where I mentioned:

The fact that you can swop out your hard drive on this quickly is a plus.
You could have a few of them ready with different OSs.
Or just remove them for security reasons - while the device is not in use.
Yeah the fact you can get to the drive through a little access panel is useful.
Removing the drives wouldn't really be the issue. It's that there is the potential for something to be installed in the device that sends your data out in real time as you use it.
Did you check both USB ports? Maybe they are both USB 3 and the docs are wrong or they could've update the specs without changing the docs.
Just bought one to go in my work bag … to do stuff on rather than my phone …..I’m in UK got the same deal as you with wallet and stylus was £220
For basic tasks it’s useful. If you can turn off things like Bluetooth or WiFi (when they aren’t needed) the battery lasts longer.
@@S-Technology thx for the tip
Will be using it for emails and logging into my online diary etc so will be using Wi-Fi/ Bluetooth mainly lol but will be only on for maybe an hour or 2 a day max and not everyday so can keep charged up …
I just bought one of these... have you seen any limitations in replacing the SSD with a 2TB?
It uses the smaller size (2242) and I only used a 512 GB when I replaced mine. So I can’t speak for certain how much storage you can use.
Can't drag and drop with the trackpoint? Is it just mine or is with everyone
Hi great review i have been eyeing these too, in tired of sitting down on the chair all day to program, so hows it with vscode programming and stuff??
i dont see hdmi port. does this thing do all regular sized laptop does or are there some thing it cant do.
What is the size of power cable (2.5 or 3.5)?
It’s 3.5
Did you know GPD has been making netbooks like this for a while?
Would love to see if it has upgradable ram or a wifi card. 👍
feel like it all going to be soldered in place or even epoxy blobs too , one generic board doing everything, total locked down? make apple stuff look easy to up grade?
@@dh2032 haha. That sounds about right. 😊
@dh that’s pretty much what it has. I didn’t see anything upgradable except the SSD.

03:26 you can use a usb c pd charger to barrel adapter.
Please game on it! I know, it might not be great for gaming, but with a tiny resolution for the tiny screen, it might work out well. It might be preferable to get those for your kids instead of bigger laptops, since it means there is less to carry, so you could take them with you while you go camping even if you have to walk for a while.
I’m putting in some clips of playing Minecraft on it. It wasn’t bad.. but it’s not playing cyberpunk anytime soon.
It has a J4105, its not playing much if anything

You should be able to play anything now days using streaming service like Xbox game pass, PlayStation remote play or Nvidia GeForce now. Of course you would also need an internet connection.
Hi! how long the battery last?
Would make a nice alternative to a tablet. Would be curious to know if any Linux distro would run on it.
Since it is a x86 processor, it can 99% run it. The hardware tucked inside is not bad so it's probably going to be really fast with a Linux on it
@@Mr.Engine993 Yeah, we might hope so.
Got one from a diff Ali-seller. I thought I was bad ass when my final price was $211-Good job man!
Mine is the same but:
* windows 10 pro (but I prefer it)
* Same stylus, a "case" & throwaway HP 32gb thumbdrive
* Came w/ a us version of ur plug so no attach needed
Unfortunately it has a lame "DEEQ" branding on the hood & my case was not as nice as urs- oh well
All in all I really like the lappy but even with my small-ish hands, that keyboard is a WARCRIME! Uugghhh.
Thank You.
Windows 10 pro wouldn't be bad. I actually didn't use 11 until this mini laptop.
I am okay with the keyboard. But I couldn't type a college paper with it. That would be torture.
Can You tell how long battery life and if I have PowerBank can I charge battery?
It depends on what you are doing. Games it’s about 2 hours. If your conservative you can get much longer.
i have the same machine, different reseller/factory. but the same machine. now i had to reinstall windows due to a boot loop issue. now i don't have audio, my left click doesn't work and the touchscreen only works sporadically/ at wrong dimensions.
The website is still a mess… I’m lazy, but the forum is helpful.

is it really heavy does it weight more than 1 pound?
Can it support an external keyboard, mouse or 2nd monitor?

Is it a proper stylus or just a finger-imitating capacitive stylus?
It’s a cheap finger imitating stylus. I’ve found similar ones for sale at Walmart for a couple bucks.
@@S-Technology that's a shame, but expected. I wish touch + pen displays were more common.

Came across this review while looking around for devices to help me part ways with smartphones. First thing I noticed was it had... Bluetooch? I just lost it laughing at that moment.
I ended up renaming the device to “Bluetooch”. 🤣
A FP Shooter will make you nauseous. haha

Thanks for this video! 1) Would love to see it running Linux 2) Are you sure the USB-C connection can't power the device?
I’m pretty sure the connection doesn’t power the laptop. I plugged it into the same variable power bank I use with the barrel to USB-C adapter to power it on the go.
The barrel charges the unit. (Power LED and charging icon in windows turn on) the USB-C port doesn’t trigger either.

Linux has a "super resolution" option where you can display effectively double the resolution of what is on display. Since the SSD is removable, you can test this out.
Explain How. I use Linux Full time for at least 13 years (Ubuntu MATE)
@@eijentwun5509 in the display options of xfce. You can chose a resolution scale or pick a custom one.
Let's say you pick a resolution of 1280x720 and a resolution scale of 2x; your affectively getting 1440p.
If you think I'm saying bull; make a Debian Linux VM with xfce or gnome installed and you should see what I'm talking about.

I want one of this Pipo to upgrade my cinema room. XD
Is it really 12GB RAM?
That's a lot for such a price.
It seems so. It’s not replaceable though.
Some gaming benchmarks please
Also, if the shell had a less weird color and was a plain black, I would totally buy one. It's technically a UMPC because of its size. It would be an upgrade for me; because of the relatively large pool of ram.
If your interested I can upload a trimmed iso of windows 10 IOT enterprise ltsc that has security updates available until 2032. I think windows 11 is bogging the poor thing.
Linux has super resolution for intel hd graphics, you can push a higher resolution out of the display but it will get a bit blurry.
Thank you for the offer. I appreciate it.
I am curious how this runs on a large OS like windows over time.
But I also know me, it will probably end up with some form of Linux by this summer. 😂
What's your opinion about the mini laptop topton 7 inches, 12 Gb RAM , storage 128 / 256 GB...1 Tb/2 Tb with windows 11?
I very recently did a 6 month follow up. I like the device and use it everyday still. But there are some compromises with it. Take a look at this here: ua-cam.com/video/96g7WvrNh9g/v-deo.html
As for the storage size, that's more specific to your use case. but it's good that you can swap it out if you want to.
Nearly a world power supply included🎉
Out of curiosity, can mini laptops run voicemod?
I’ve never used voicemod personally. Taking a look at it you might be limited depending on what you are using it for. If you want to use it while gaming I think it will kill the frame rate of the game. Also my experience with the mic and speakers is not good on these. The mic barely works and the speakers pop.
Ok, thanks for the advice. It was very helpful.
stylus can you do artwork on it because them xpen drawing pads are more money than that my computer is a aspire e 15 start acer its old now and slow and speaker only in mono
I don't think you could. The touch screen isn't that accurate and the stylus is a basic junk one.
