You just saved the life of hundreds of pumps if people watch this!
This is awesome! I feel much better now about going into the winter.
You are the man!!! I've been searching YT looking for a way to winterize/drain my first pressure washer. Simple and sweet process. I'm going to copy your funnel/hose setup. Thanks
Great simple video, no bs! thank you!
What a great and simple idea. Thankyou!
I wold have never thought of doing that. Thanks for making this video.
Very well done! Thank you!
Nice video! Short and to the point.
Thank you!!!
Excellent video! Thank you.
Thank you! simple, effective I appreciate it!
Thx for posting this
THANK YOU!
Simple to the point video..thanks thats a great help
I thank you that was simple. I also treat my fuel with Sta-bil or the like and run for a few minutes to get it in the carb. Makes for good starts come spring.
Thanks for the tip!
Just bought a new Champion pressure washer and thanks for the demo. Cheers.
Thanks! Exactly what I was looking for
Great idea, thanks
Nice way of teaching 👍
Very good thank you.
Awesome video! Thank you!
Perfect…thanks.
Brilliant!

Excellent
Thank you sir for the great advice 👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you so much for making this video. I was fortunate enough to find you in the search. There’s so much bad advice on UA-cam.
great that sure is an easy way, thanks
WOW THATS COOL
Simple, quick, and informative, what more can I ask for? Thank you
this video helped thanks! didnt want to get the compressed air antifreeze
EasyPesy Thank You Sir
Great idea.😀😀😀
With the quick connect fitting this is even easier than the Sta-bil stuff in the aerosol can!
Great vid. Love the cap; RCAF forever!
Very Very cool my friend 👍 thank you so much🏋️♀️
Thank you, from a new pressure washer owner.
There is a bottle you can buy one made by karcher another made by an off brand exactly for this. About 7-10$. It has a hose fitting end and is reusable. This is definitely a good way to do it too.
Thanks for this (and I tht I was the only one who tht of a quick release).
Great video question is I was just going to use regular radiator fluid that I have in the garage why couldn't you use that?
Funny, my son and I was trying to figure out how to winterize our pressure washer today and I received your method in my email today.
Good Canadian Video
Awesome trick,
You have a new subscriber, i hope you got more great videos
Nice
Awesome video thanks for sharing. Can anyone tell me if using well water with high levels of calcium will damage my pressure washer pump?
Frikken amazing! Now why didn't I think of that?
I have a 20 year old Karcher that leaked last summer. I evacuated the system every autumn, without any problem, until the year it didn't work no more. The replacement part costs $75 bucks. I only paid $150 for the machine.
They sell Pump saver it comes in a can you hook it to the inlet squeeze a couple times and you’re done
This may be a silly question but do leave that hose and funnel connected all winter? Or do you just disconnect it and be satisfied with knowing antifreeze worked its way though?
Now that’s what I needed to see. The hose with the funnel. I thought I need to get one of those fancy bottles. I can just grab an old piece of hose and c-clamp a funnel.
brilliant and way easier than pump fluid
Sweet. I just wonder how the diaphragms inside the pumps hold up long term to the anti freeze?
Do you keep and re-use the solution?
What do you think of the pump preserver available commercially? Apparently it has lubricant in it to keep the seals in good shape. I think it also has anti-freeze in it.
They sell stuff specifically designed for pressure washer pumps. Screws right into the fitting. Blows the water out, and leaves pump protectant in the pump.
Hell Yea
What if anything must you do when you go to use the pressure washer in the spring? Is it bad for the antifreeze to run through the hose to the gun? Do you need to flush the antifreeze?
Thanks!
same process in reverse. hook up your water hose, turn on the water, and the anit freeze will pump out.
That's simply brilliant! Thanks so much for sharing this! Does it have to be RV antifreeze or could you use automobile antifreeze?
RV type is only $2.70 at the local walmart but the auto type should work
Things to consider: Automotive antifreeze is toxic. Can only be used in automotive cooling systems. RV antifreeze doesn't have those restrictions. It's even safe to use in RV drinking water supply lines.
@@danburch9989, things to consider: I HAVE auto antifreeze, and don't have to drive or spend money to winterize, IF it will work. I know it will work, but would like to know that it won't damage pump parts.
@@dBsound100 It won't damage any seals no,. i'd like to add that the active ingredient is either Ethylene or propylene Glycol. Ethylene is the toxic one.
What kind of pump brand is it
Such a simple and easy method of protecting the pump! I live in a warm climate and never have to winterize it. You didn't mention it in your video, but I presume you pulled the plug to 1) make it easier to pull the cord, and 2) to keep the engine from starting up.
What is that stock release fitting? I've been looking for it for months.
amzn.to/3CjeIeO
Does the antifreeze do anything for the piston seals, or is the freeze protection all that's necessary for preserving the life of the pump?
Yes. Its a lubricant too. Its the same as buying the really expensive pump protectant. Except its only about $2.50 a gallon compared to that high dollar little bottle. There are lots of UA-cam videos about this and many mechanics recommend antifreeze as a lubricant
@@JM-nh8yp That's good to know! My washer is going to be stored in a climate control but I was wondering about lubricant for the pump. I plan to fog the entire before storing too.
Thanks!
doesnt something need to be connected to discharge for fluids to come out?
@@trinitytoo Unless the engine starts. LOL
My manufacturer recommends winter windshield washing fluid which is more available and probably cheaper.
great idea, thanks for sharing your vast knowledge! do you use non ethanol fuel and drain the carb?
I would on both Items you mentioned, alcohol is not good for any small motors. I buy non alc for all the small stuff and my three boats i have. Run till it stops or crack the bowl drain and get it out.
Hi where do you buy the hose fitting?
amzn.to/3CjeIeO
first video i checked, you in muskoka too? i was gonna just blow it out. thanks for the tip
Good Morning! We're certainly close together. I live over on Manitoulin Island, just west of Muskoka at the north end of Lake Huron. Do you have a water line issue to deal with?
Great info! I can stop buying those $5 pump savers.
I tried it and it wouldnt pull the fluid through the pump. Any ideas why it wont?
Anyone ever use windshield washer fluid to do this? Seems it would serve the same purpose.
Briggs & Stratton 6151 Pressure Washer Pump Saver Anti-Freeze and Lubricant Formula, 10.7-Ounce
Hook this aerosol can to the water inlet of the pressure washer and give it a squirt until it comes out of the outlet fitting and ur done.
That stuff is extremely expensive and I would never buy that. Antifreeze does the exact same thing it's a lubricant and antifreeze all in one and you can buy for about $2.50 a gallon
Thank you for the video. Why doesnt compressed air into pump inlet work?
Air doesn't displace water. Warm, dry air might work but would take time to evaporate all the water.
I just went to use my pressure washer and the manifold before the pump is leaking. It must have cracked during a deep freeze last winter. Uggghhh $120 part
so if i can store my washer indoor for the winter i dont have to do this then? WHat about removing all the left over gasoline inside the pressure washer?
Just get yourself a bottle of fuel stabilizer $10 at most big box stores
I've tried this for a couple years and mine will not draw low pressure fluid into the pump. It has to be under hose pressure for anything to go through the pump. I might have to put an air hose behind it to push the antifreeze in
Same problem here...Gonna try to put some compressed air into the hose and see if that works.
@@MrNoodles419 I just had a similar idea yesterday. I have a hose connector for my camper to winterize it, that blows air through the plumbing. So I hooked a bicycle pump to that connector on the garden hose, after I poured the antifreeze in. It worked perfectly. I just pulled the handle while I pumped the foot pump and also pulled the rope starter a few times.
It’s technically not low or no pressure as he has it higher than the pump. But you could try the squeeze bottle you can buy.
Have you tried running the washer without the pressure hose connected until it starts to pump water, then switch off and connect up ?
For some reason mine wont get going under pressure
Why would you need a quick release fitting and adaptor. just connect the garden hose to the pump. I can see you spilling a little antifreeze when you take it off. just catch it with a red plastic cup and save the leftover back in the Jug. what am i missing .
👍✌👍
Is it the same method if it is an electric pressure washer?
Hello Dave!
Great question. I should answered that in the video, but yes, it would be the same process for an electric pressure washer. The pumps are quite similar across the two versions. The only difference is that you'd briefly (very briefly) turn the pump ON and OFF to cycle the anti-freeze through the system. You might find it interesting that many (perhaps even most) pressure washer pumps and wands are made by the same company in Italy, then used by different manufacturers of the entire pressure washer units.

@@baileylineroad I live in New Brunswick, and I’m about to winterize my pressure washer this weekend. I checked on UA-cam and there are very few videos on how to winterize an electric one. Maybe you should put out a video on that but if you don’t have an electric one for demonstration that would be kind of tough! I appreciate your response. Thank you very much I love watching your video because you were so clear and everything that you say.
What gauge hole for a plug weld? Too small and you hit the walls, too big and you waste wire... the thickness of the metals affects it, but what's a general starting point?
What about electric pressure washers? There's no pull cord to cycle it through.
what if you have an electric pressure washer ?
I’ve benn doing this for years. Just start the motor for 5 seconds.
Canadian? You don't sound canadian... What is your favorite sport?
Im Canadian and hes sounds...canadian

cant you just blow it out with air?
Didn't work for me
That's all your pressure washer
On it
First empty the fuel and let it run dry of fuel first...another 5 minutes,,,,
