upside down every thought of mine upsidde down now , how can i forgive after a fucking 24 years of life in the world without mercy where to put those fucking canddles ? i should talk to writer of the song couse i'm confused
I agree, most people get the style of muse and try to contradict that style by saying it all sounds the same, which is not nessecarily true. Some songs have a same style to it and others dont. Muse is unique in the bands own way.
I was listening to muse as i became an atheist, really he is a brilliant guy. You have to pull information out of the lyrics to really fully appreciate it. And maybe to everyone who believes in a god, just for one second don't believe what other people tell you to believe. ( ironic i know ) Suddenly you realize if nobody had ever told you of god he wouldn't exist. Oh and the first person to give me solid, legitimate proof he exist with tangible evidence i will gladly listen to your argument, but no such evidence exists.
+Sam Eggebrecht While I agree with your sentiment, science can't disprove God exists, neither can Theists prove he does exist. So it's really up to opinion and what you want to believe at this point in time, and will probably be that way until the end of time. And I don't think this song is about God not existing. Matt is looking from the perspective of a sociopath, or just someone intending to do a bad thing and hoping that there's no punishment for it and is using religion as a reason as a justification for inhumane behavior "breathe in deep and cleanse away our sins and we'll pray that there's no god to punish us", using God as an excuse. I think Matt is more against religion than he is against god or deities, despite him being an atheist. But I think a lot of people are that way, regardless if they are theistic or atheistic.
+Ryan Ashen Totally agree with you, he's not hoping that atheism is correct, he's just hoping that there either isn't one, or that the God that does exist doesn't "punish us and make a fuss". Basically, the wrong-doer is just thinking ahead.
+Ryan Ashen "science can't disprove God exists" How about you disprove my flying unicorn that shits rainbows, eats sugar dust and can fly through the universe in an instant. He is our creator and our saviour. He is real because I said he is real. Now prove me wrong. Can't you see how dumb that argument is? If you don't have proof you don't have anything.
Calm down, fedora. I was just explaining the fact that both religion and science have no answer for undeniable proof of the beginning of the universe. I never said that religion was exclusive to this; it's mutual. - "flying spaghetti monster" Also, for the sake of argument, logically, you're comparing apples to oranges here. Established doctrine, written text, and millennia of teaching versus a hallucination that you had that no one else experiences are two completely different things. You can't strawman your way into convincing someone that God doesn't exist with this argument. It doesn't work. It's purely used as a facetious argument, and should only be used as that. - "Proof" Science has "proof", religion has "faith". These two are completely different things. You can't say one is more valid than the other for determining the mysteries of the universe. They both function on different planes. Your "proof" is material: trusting in what you can see, touch, taste, feel, hear while having your brain tell you what it means (through reason). "Faith" is immaterial: trusting in what you can't see, touch, taste, feel, hear while having a book tell you what it means (through God). Like I said, it's as clear as day that these two things function differently. They require different methods for achieving an answer. In essence, it's exactly as you said. "Prove me wrong that I saw a flying unicorn. You can't. HA, Checkmate, Atheist. *tips fedora*". This is what I mean when I said, "science can't disprove God exists, neither can Theists prove he does exist. So it's really up to opinion and what you want to believe at this point in time, and will probably be that way until the end of time." This type of arguing "proof" vs. "faith" goes nowhere. - Generally speaking, I feel like a lot of religious people don't understand the arguments that evolution makes ("y r ther still monkeys if we all evolved from them lol"), and some Atheists don't understand how faith works ("y do u believe in something u cant see lol flying spaghetti monster"). Both are retarded arguments.
So you think that explaining the universe with a fairy tale is just as reasonable as an explanation by people who do constant reserch and use various facts and proof? Science doesn't claim that is has it all figured out, but religion does. Faith is always a nice way out isn't it? I hear this excuse all the time. And what exactly do these people so strongly believe in? Nobody with any common sense or logic would belive in a retarded fairy tale written 3500 years ago, when science couldn't not yet explain disease, birth, death, nature (floods, storms, earthquakes). People's fear of the unkown led to the creation of such a flawed and dated book. A book that is sexist toward women, says that gays or lesbians need to fucking die “ ‘If a man has sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They are to be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads." I feel like I'm gonna throw up. There's an endless amout of stuff like this in there. My unicorn as well btw. So he did came from a "Established doctrine, written text, and millennia of teaching" my fellow theist *tips* *Kippah*
I enjoy those, but hardly touch them anymore. More of the 90's era for me, there's a hand full of gems from the last decade or so that I considered worth buying.
What if there is no god? What'cha gonna do then? Who you gonna pray to? Who'll ever forgive you for sining? Eh? Eh? What then? What'll ya do? You gonna pray to Matt Bellamy? Actually, praying to Matt is something to consider...
@TheCircean i know but in some of his song it seems like he dose and in this one he doent want him to exist :/ so i justed wanted to know if he did or didnt thats all....
Don't worry people, this song is not about religion, it's about the humanity being childish and irresponsible in the "self-loving" way it "burns the candle at both ends", which means, wastes resources and destroys the environement (i guess. It could also mean exploits his relationships like slaves, and he's "alone in 20 years"). He asks forgiving from the "future souls". He says that if there's a God, then humanity is guilty in front of him. And it's also a stylish oxymoron.
Matt is an atheist he meant what he said here is the proof www.celebatheists.com/wiki/Matt_Bellamy and why should people worry to question the existence of god
Ceren Çapan this is copy and pasted from the link you've posted. "I believe in the God of the universe, definitely." In addition, he revealed in a 2007 video inverview that, "I don't believe in heaven or hell, I don't really believe in that version" I believe in God does not sound like something an Atheist would say lol!
Even though the point that I'm about to make is completely irrelevant when one considers the fact that the belief in a god is misguided ignorance and this ignorance can likely only be overcome as we raise more freethinking and educated future generations. I will make it anyway. Muse is in no way confirming or denying the existence of a god.
The song seems to be a written from the perspective of a non-Christian/ex-Christian assuming the doctrine is correct, and the chorus is a bitter reflection on what Christians believe is true. I would go further into the lyrical genius compressed into this song but I'm enjoying the music far too much to care. Not to mention that I doubt that I will be convincing any religious folks to stop believing in a god or any that atheist/agnostic/antiteists will run toward a life of religious ignorance.
@JustMerpMan Take your own advise: read the bible, go the church, get right with God, and most of all get on the stair way to heaven. Just because Muse isn't a christian band doesn't mean I can't listen to them.
+ItZReboundZzOMG There's no proof if he exists or doesn't, for example someone will say God doesn't exist because the big bang created the universe. To which people may reply God created the big bang. But I suppose agree to disagree.
+ItZReboundZzOMG cause we wouldn't even know what good and evil meant if there was no Evil at all, y'know, it's simple. And yeah, about all these crap-talks about letting the Evil in the world blahblahblah how's God letting ppl die blahblahblah I mean, come on. He made it all to put us through all this crap, cause you have to have a personality and distinguish good and bad from your experience in order to go in heaven.
You cant necessarily prove that a superior being doesn't exist, but you certainly can't prove that there is a higher power in the first place. The evidence against religion is the evidence of life. Evolution, stars, galaxies, etc. Most of it directly contradicts most forms of deities, and how most people go on to believe that those deities created the universe in a way that is contradicted by the evidence. If that makes sense.
it's not your business who am I. Im just saying that post on youtube is not a place do discuss a religion so save your pitiful thoughts and don't corrupt comments here. who are you to insult God?
The fact that you feel the need to keep replying to someone you've never met nor do you know, shows a compulsive need to prove your worth, and clearly a lack of self esteem and respect. Regardless of your answer to this, I will never read it, I will never respond to it, and anything you say will not only be a waste of your time, but would also prove my point. If you feel this unheard, maybe you should say something worth listening to, or at very least learn how to articulate yourself properly.
I think this is the most powerful chorus Matt has ever written
comic sans, my good old friend

Well, i actually have new friends believe it or not, and they are called Arial Black and Tahoma. Really nice people.

How could anybody dislike this bloody masterpiece??
"And we'll pray that there's no God to punish us and make a fuss"
It's the simple things that make great lyrics.
OMG Muse is my all time favorite band :)
Completely agree with you!

This song should be dedicated to catholic church
The whole Metal Gear series has always been good to me, the conspiracy stuff was great even though many people hound it.
@ThreeNumbersOfMine Muse is one of the few bands left today whose songs actually tell a story, I love them for that.
Muse is Perfection.. :3
Every time I hear this chorus I get automatic goosebumps. So awesome, words can't even describe the feeling.

@JustMerpMan Out of where? this is the internet not something you can get out of. Haha, get your facts straight.
@kylewise14 I think I'll just burn in hell.
does he believe in God or is he just joking? o_o
@kassiegirl13 its hard to say but you shouldn't take muses lyrics to literally because most of them are metaphors and anologys
@kassiegirl13 not everyone believes in god you know
@JustMerpMan Take your own advise: read the bible, go the church, get right with God, and most of all get on the stair way to heaven. Just because Muse isn't a christian band doesn't mean I can't listen to them.
@kylewise14 Get your facts straight about God.
Now that is a contradiction. How can you get facts about something that doesn't even exist in physical world?
@kassiegirl13 he is an atheist, sad I know. :P
Please show more respect to other people.
No sir, i'm not homossexual.
You sir, should show more respect to other people.
+Sam Eggebrecht You can't really say God doesn't exist though.
+Architect11 He can and I will stand by him and saying i'm %100 sure he doesn't, but lets not argue.
+ItZReboundZzOMG There's no proof if he exists or doesn't, for example someone will say God doesn't exist because the big bang created the universe. To which people may reply God created the big bang. But I suppose agree to disagree.

@kylewise14 Get out.
and we'll PRAY that there's no god
anyone else catch that?
there is no God to punish us and make a fuss, there is a God that loves us and tests us
Sorry sir, i can not understand this language.
No sir, i spend most of my time on my university. You should study a little more.
