My interpretation is that the narrator is obsessed with a virtual reality, and his lover wants him to stop and join the real world. The narrator says "I just don't care if it's real..." meaning he know's it's not real but he still prefers this artificial but yet complete happiness to the real world, where people "chase their dreams away... glass needles in the hay". His lover tries to convince him to join society, and the narrator responds with "you can't resist making me feel eternally missed".
