- Vaughan's idea is that society now in the modern world needs more weirdos and outliers to explore beyond the cultural norms.
Vaughan is the Founder of Vend, a cloud based retail software for small to medium retailers worldwide. The Vend team hold three core values dearly in their hearts; to delight retailers, to do the impossible, and to take care of one another.
Vaughan also co-founded OMG Tech! an initiative to encourage kids of all backgrounds, genders, and ages to get into technology. It not only covers coding, but all newly developed technology such as robots, drones, nanotech, teleportation and hover-boards. They give kids the chance to explore and get inspired by technology that they will be experts in ten years from now.
He dreams big and likes to set himself impossible challenges; whether it is cycling the length of New Zealand solo, running 1,000 kilometres, or building a $100M venture.

@Michael Kylow: Maybe because the other kids/people beat you up/condecend to you because of it? Especially kids: If they see a special snowflake, they melt it with a blowtorch.

Yes yes yes! I'm always anxious about society norms where acting weird or quirky is condemned like having character is shameful and should not be embraced. It's what makes us interesting and different to each other.
I fire myself too ,because I got ill , I wish I made money for firing myself. I love your time line. I feel I felt the same way with education with me and my friends
I'm weird. I'm very weird. Almost as weird as you can be compared to most people. But I try desperately to hide it, to the point of being agoraphobic (literally, only leaving my house twice a month for doctor appointments), to show it. Should I try to own it; Opening myself up to ridicule? I don't know if I want that attention. It's driven me down some dark alleys. Alleys that I gaze upon almost daily, and dwell upon nearly every passing second of my life. I try to bury myself in fantasies such as living through others in youtube or video game streams. But I'm constantly reminded of my weirdness, and I hate it. I wish it didn't exist. But the only way for it not to exist is to pursue those dark alleys.
@Byran Boy you are observant. I am within the 98% that pass VERY well. That doesn't stop the fact that I am still very self conscious and even paranoid about the fact.

Sammikins You're not alone friend, I watch movies and video game reviews all day and do nothing with my life, I can't talk to people because all i know how to talk about is film.. being alone and feeling weird is a hard place to be. and I understand.
I can understand you but, as you are unhappy with this situation, why would you pursue that dark alley ? Just to not bother people with your weirdness ? If opening yourself up to ridicule is the only way to get out of it, then you must try because there is nothing to lose except those well known dark alleys. Getting used to those ridicule situations will teach you how to act / react better and step by step you will learn how to live in this society. It's hard because you need to accept to go through a difficult situation in order to make it better for the future and it feels horrible to have all the attention, but try to feed yourself with that fear and see it as a good thing... You might even find yourself to like it a bit. It's hard to leave behind your comfort of being alone at home. But the thing is you are not happy with this situation, but you stick to what you know and you are afraid of the rest. You have to force yourself to move and change things or at least to get exposed to other things in order to let something happen, good or bad, but it will make you grow. If you change nothing, nothing will change. You don't need to go "full weirdo" and be your true "weird" self, but you don't need to try to hide it completely, because you can't. You can't just show a mask and be someone totally different on the inside, it just doesn't work and might actually increase the weirdness. You probably have a brain that works correctly, you probably have some manners, you are probably polite and correctly educated, that's enough to get along with people. Some of them will stay away from you, some of them won't even remember you, but some of them will like you, accept you and your weirdness. You just have to find the good people to make you feel good and feel accepted, but if you don't go out (or just go to school or work) you can be sure it will not happen, or maybe through internet if you're lucky. Anyway, keep it up man, don't despair because what's the point of living a sad life ? You'll notice everyone has something to hide or something they are ashamed of, or something they struggle dealing with, but life goes on and everyone try to act normal and move forward.

This "weirdo" concept sounds so much like a description of the "creative" person. I don't mean creative as in clever, I mean someone who fits the profile revealed in several fields of study: Creative Problem Solving, Creative Thinking, Applied Imagination and other variations. Frank Barron at UCLA, Paul Torrance at U. of Georgia, and innumerable others devoted their careers to identifying traits of the creative person and often how to foster and support innovative thinking. It's slightly depressing that Rowsell is ignoring past efforts. It's true academic efforts are often not famous, and any effort to say creative people are not crazy or slackers is welcome. An early pioneer helped save my creative life forty years ago. I'm not fond of the term weirdo, especially as a brand.
