  • It's Wheelchair Wednesday! My favorite day of the week when we're actually caught up and get to post a new video on the channel :)
    If you've tuned in for previous videos you know I'm quite a wheelchair equipment junkie. Luckily for Andrea and I we have a small storage space at our apartment where we can store all my wheelchair gadgets, haha!
    .
    .
    This is my first ever wheelchair equipment haul! I'm super excited to show you guys the new wheelchair gadgets that I finally had enough money saved up to buy! My favorite one in this video is the beach wheels! Before buying these I managed at the beach by either crawling (which tweaked my wrist and shoulder once already, ouch!) or my least favorite, having to be carried.
    .
    .
    I'm not sponsored by any of these companies or brands. I've done all the research myself before buying, and my wife and I work hard to save up for these before we buy them.
    .
    .
    Please let me know in the comments below if any of you have tried any of the things I show on this video, or if you have any questions about any of these that I've used already :D ! Would love to chat with you guys and learn from each other.

    We’re Kasey & Andrea. A Minnesotan and Salvadorian husband and wife living and loving life in Minnesota, USA. We live an adaptive lifestyle that allows us to be active, independent, and live life to the fullest. We’ve been together a total of 8 years and going into our 4th year of marriage. Through all of these years together (and with Kasey’s 28 years of living with Spina Bifida) we have learned A LOT about adaptive equipment and products, and multiple ways on how to modify things around our homes and lives. We have traveled to different parts of North and Latin America so far and planning to adventure a lot more in the near future. We created this blog to share with others our personal experience with living an active and independent adapted life. We’ll be sharing adaptive product and equipment reviews of what we have used in the past; posts of some of the most fun places we’ve been able to visit during our travels. Last but not least, we’ll also share content regarding Kasey’s weight loss journey and adaptive fitness and exercise ideas. We’re extremely excited to be able to reach out AND also learn from others who are living an adaptive life to the fullest! Here’s to some amazing Adapted Adventures!

    Thank you for such a fantastic and super helpful post, I’m looking into getting the all terrain wheels and the freewheel attachments and watching this has just confirmed that I need these. Those beach wheels are insane and turn your 🦽 into a tank Mad max style 👌🏻🤗🦽🤗

    Great Video!!!
    Hey Kasey, you will find that the off road tires raise the back of your chair about 2 inches higher than what you are use to. Plus you well either need a spacer pack, which you can get from (dmehub.net) they seem to be cheaper on price than anyone else on them, for your chair or some washers to keep them off of your side gards. However, I do believe after you use them for a while you will like them better than your regular tires as they grab the carpet very well and about everything else as well. I use them all the time on my chair. They are a game changer, as make getting around so much easier. Thanks for the info on the beach tires, I had not seen them before.

    • @AdaptedAdventures
      @AdaptedAdventures  5 років тому +1

      yea definitely will need a spacer, I may not use them in the house because they are hard on the floors but i look forward to using them with the freewheel this summer when camping!

    I’m not a fan of those gray tires. When I used 24” wheels there wasn’t very many options for tires. I would only get about 6 to 8 months worth of use out of those gray 24 x 1-3/8” tires. When I went to 26” wheels and the Schwalbe 26 x 1” tires I get about 4 1/2 years of use out of one set of tires.

    Really nice video, thank you. The freewheel is great. I use mine all the time at parks, etc. How about a video on clothing for the wheelchair user? I have spent a fortune trying to find the right pair of jeans. I highly recommend Rollitex. I would be happy to partner with you.

    • @AdaptedAdventures
      @AdaptedAdventures  5 років тому

      I'll have to check that out! I have looked at jeans from a couple of different companies but I have a hard time bringing myself to pay so much for pants haha! I tend to try to find a mainstream label like lee or docker and try to find a fit that they make that fits and then wait for sales lol

    • @cfdmedic78
      @cfdmedic78 5 років тому +1

      I'm an old guy who has been using a wheelchair for the last couple years due to an back injury. I've found that getting my jeans a size larger at the waist and legs allows me more comfort sitting in the chair. Also they are relaxed fit. Cargo pants are also useful because of the easy access to legs pockets.

    Hi, Do you have to use longer axels for the beach tires?

    • @AdaptedAdventures
      @AdaptedAdventures  Рік тому

      Yes! I use extra long ones but I don't know the exact measurement. somewhere around 130-140mm work for these wheels and my wheelchair. It depends on your wheelchair and the size of wheels you end up buying

  • @morgancalvi6675
    @morgancalvi6675 4 роки тому

    If you have quick release wheels and you want a mountain tire that is the same size and also with a quick release...can you just swap them out? When you say you have to adjust your axles because it's rubbing on your side guards...is that the same as having a 1", as opposed to a 0", frame inset? How do you move out the axle sleeve?

    • @AdaptedAdventures
      @AdaptedAdventures  4 роки тому

      generally you can you may need to use a longer axle with some spacers.. ill do a more in depth video soon on that!

    I notice that there are no brakes on your chair. Do you use them? I just bought the Kenda tires and will have to adjust the brakes for the fit. Any suggestions? By the way, I have the Freewheel and it is a good add on to get around outside. A bit expensive for many. I found mine on EBay and saved some money.

    • @AdaptedAdventures
      @AdaptedAdventures  5 років тому

      nice! yea i got mine on sale as well... I don't have brakes on this chair however my next one will have at least one scissor brake that folds under my chair. What I would do if I were you is adjust your brakes so they work on the wheels you are going to use most often

    Will that kind wheel hit a wheelchair that has footrests that get attached to chair frame? Is there any other way that front wheels can get attached to a wheelchair?

    • @AdaptedAdventures
      @AdaptedAdventures  2 роки тому

      The freewheel does have an attachment that can be used to attach it to a chair with flip up footrests, but I think you have to buy it separately

      Itso! THank you soo much for the question! I apologize I haven't gotten back to you sooner! We've had a bit of hiatus from the channel, but we're finally getting back into it, after being away for about a year! Check out these two websites for wheelchair parts and supplies... sportaid.com and livingspinal.com! Let me know if you have other questions!

  • @morgancalvi6675
    @morgancalvi6675 3 роки тому +1

    I love the idea of donating to spinal cord injury and research...so spend A LOT of money with Living Spinal. They are all in wheelchairs and know a lot about what a spinal cord injured person, or someone who is sitting in a chair, needs. They have been there...and are there. It's like having a confident when ordering equipment because they are using it themselves and can appreciate needing something. To me, there is nothing worse than an able bodied person getting equipment for someone in a chair....it's like book smarts compared to street smarts.
    Oh, regarding the FreeWheel...it's important that people know to attach it straight in the middle of the foot plate because if it is on at an angle, the chair will pull to the side. I don't personally understand why the bracket attachment for the back of the chair, because the FreeWheel itself is heavy and will tip the chair. So if you have no core strength, I'd just hold it in the front.
    Please do a video on how to adjust your axel sleeve.
