+barkbagarn I agree -- an unusually bold step ... reminds me of when they refurbished the Sistine Chapel -- the critics were appalled, but the results were magnificent! These were done by an amazing artist who has her own web site at wildvinecarvings.com. (She found the color combinations a bit odd but diligently followed the colors and patterns of the original finish)

+AncientChess I've got a little more information about those restorations. The painting was actually done by a fellow who specializes in miniature painting -- he even features some of this work on his web site warringsouls.com .
The carver I mentioned above is the one who did those replacement rooks.
