      Still is. We just got hit with another historic storm not too long ago, and I still love it. I highly doubt any other place in the US near any lake gets snow as quick as we did/do.

    Lived in Monroe County, Hilton New York for six years could see Lake Ontario from my house, I used to always love the first squalls in late October early November where it would be sunny, and 10 minutes later snowing so hard you couldn't see your hand in front of your face..

    Born and raised in Black Sea part of Istanbul, when i was a kid i always imagined that all snowfall events in the world was caused by sea evaporation, named sea effect snowfall. Also thundersnow was a normal event for me. Kinda shocked when i learnt that fronts caused most snowfall in the world except places which sit near water bodies.
    This is such a common phenomenon in Istanbul, that we usually get not only sea effect snowfall, but also sea effect rains which lasts for days. I remember one time it rained straight for 10 days in a spray form, which only totaled to 10 mm. Black Sea region of Turkey is truly a moisture heaven.
    Thanks to these type of sea effect, some years we even get 30 inches of snow in just a single storm, 100 m above sea level. Also our latitude is lower than western Europe but we get much more snow thanks to Black Sea.

    I’m in Buffalo NY now and there’s lake effect snow happening now jan-5-2022.
    It’s basically very very cold high wind and i believe it can harm or even kill any living thing that’s stays outside more than 5 minutes.
    How is that “the coolest thing”?

      Nothing dies that quickly. I'm pretty sure animals adapt to extreme weather. There's a reason there's still life on this planet after all, and also, if people are prepared, they have every right to say it's the coolest thing. I think the same way. I love this type of stuff. Why? Because I'm always in a safe spot and I prepare.

    If this guy lived in the Chicagoland area and had to drive east on the Indiana Tollway frequently, it would be the most terrifying white-knuckle experience you could have while driving...and you have to do it every winter. That would change his mind FAST.

      I think people that live in a snow target like Buffalo NY would know all about "white-knuckle driving" with the visibility drops in these bands...c'mon.

      I always say it’s like a hot tub’s steam. Imagine a hot tub the size of a small country. It would let off so much steam that it froze in the air and fell down after clumping together to make heavier ice crystals (snow)

    • @Soturi92
      @Soturi92 5 років тому

      Lake Michigan almost never freezes all the way over, but it does eventually become too cold to “steam” or make snow

    Does ocean effect snow exist, it seems the closer you are to the ocean the less it tends to snow.

    • @Trash_Boat007
      @Trash_Boat007 Рік тому

      in northern japan ocean effect snow is actually a huge source of snow. Some areas of Hokaido can see up to 12 feet of snow from a storm. In the northern hemisphere you generally need to be on the western side of a body of water for ocean/lake enhanced snowfall to occur.
