The artwork on these cards was the the main reason why I was infatuated with Dual Masters. Every color have their own artstyle, red with their grungy soldiers/mechs/dino mechs, green with their sickening trees, insects and gigantic beasts, blue with their alienoid water creatures, water computers and horror fishes, yellow with their technoangels and concepts personified and of course my favorite nightmares and mashed up beasts of black.
I hope whatever happened to DM after the original release, I hope they still keep their unique artstyle and design language

Let me correct you there it's not colored cards they are called civilization cards and each civilization is denoted by a certain colour like red for fire , green for nature , black for darkness , blue for water and yellow for light . And in fire civilization it's not dino mech it's dragon-mech or robo-dragon and they are classified under "armored dragon" race or some in "volcano dragon" race there are no dinosaurs in fire civilization of duel masters , creatures in "rock beasts" race of the fire civilization comes close to resembling dinosaurs but not exactly because they are literally made of rock and firey hot lava/magma.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but unfortunately DM didn't end up keeping this unique art style. After the sets that got English release, the art became more anime and there are more joke artworks. It's not bad per se and more of a matter of taste, but yeah they grew out of this Magic-like artstyle. It's more similar to Yugioh or Vanguard nowadays.

Duel masters is the game that basically started the trigger system mechanic in card games. We wouldn't have vanguard, one piece, dragonball, digimon, wiss, bakugan, and many more games without this system. Other wise they play so different. I appreciate the game for having a fun system like that. Also the shield system as well for life makes it so that you can play the game anywhere without paper or a calculator to keep track of life.

I remember when Duel Masters first came out and I loved it. A few friends and I would play it a lot during the summer & then one day it just disappeared. I was always upset I never bought the second starter deck with the blue dragon that appeared in the season 2 intro. The games on GBA particularly the third has good card gameplay if you can get past the terrible art style

Having shield triggers is a good way to stay relaxed even when your opponents start breaking all your shields , true indeed that is until they pull up cards like bolmeteus who sends your shields directly to the graveyard (meaning can't use shield trigger)or cryptic totem that ignores shield triggers effects . And also there are some cards like emperor quazla , glena vuele etc that allows your opponent to gain a certain advantage if you use a shield trigger whenever they break your shields

    • @zachmanf.7479
      @zachmanf.7479 Місяць тому +11

From my understanding, it stopped because the creator of Chaotic and 4Kids got into court because 4Kids wanted to own Chaotic. During this time, the game and the show couldn’t be produced. I’m 50% sure it ended when 4Kids went bankrupt like a decade later so any interest in the Chaotic brand was minimal at the time. If you wanted to get a taste of what we missed out on after Duel Masters was discontinued here, there's an online version of the game released in 2020 called Duel Masters PLAY's. It's currently in the Revolution Saga block of the game, which encompasses the 2015-2016 era of the game, and they occasionally run events for older metagames. I've been playing it since 2022 and it's a great time getting familiar with all the new mechanics and characters from the universe. While I also am no fan of resellers making items difficult to find, people who sell retired/no longer in print product aren't scalpers. Scalpers usually are modern or retail product being bought out and upcharged. Though I get it, I've seen bionicle stuff get bought up and upcharged by sellers who price gate stuff that isn't that rare or sought after but no one else is selling it so your screwed. Might deserve a similarly cruel name as scalpers.
Edit: though plenty of items can gain enough high regard/fame/nostalgia value. There is a chance people are buying things to enjoy them. Quite a bummer its so common nowadays to assume things are hard to get due to some people ruining it for others over a couple bucks. Don't blame you though. Happy collecting my friend.

With the current era of DM being the Win era, focusing on a new protagonist who isn’t connected to the prior 3 mcs despite his surname. I was 10 in 2004, how dare you call me out for thinking this was cool af! but fr, the art here is fantastic. I wish I had more cards so i could have played with them and understood the game better. The lore in the instruction manual for each color of monster was already enough for me to imagine what these monsters would be doing in the world of the cards. Id love to see you play a game with these, both to show them off and explain the rules. Thanks for showing these off!

But one day my mom threw it away busause she got angry at me and im still pissed. Lucklly i still have 4/5 cards who were not in the box at that time.

I wish DM would get translated here again but I know the market is crazy with so many TCGs. I love this game and I’m glad to see other people do too.

As a kid who once played this game. I gotta say this was straight up nostalgia! I used to remember wanting to buy a pack of yugioh cards but my mom couldn’t tell which pack was which and ended up buying me the wrong pack which was duel masters. Man even though I was initially disappointed, but then when I saw the artwork, man I actually liked it! I wanted to know more about it.
Then later found out that the episodes were being aired in a different channel on Saturdays and ended up watching that too.
Then there was a time as I remember, one of the popular smart kid in my math class suddenly giving me his deck because for some reason his mom thought those were the same as taro cards which is evil in her eyes. Realizing he can’t keep them he gave them to me instead.
Many years later I no longer have those cards and for the past few years I’ve been looking online for them. Now I have enough cards to build at least 4 viable decks. Some of the ones I was looking for were pretty expensive and very costly but I’m just happy to have some with me.
Now I have two collections of both yugioh and duel master cards in my binder. As fun it was to collect I really do wish I could find another who can duel with me at some point.
Oh by the way, There’s lore within the cards all about each civilizations and how they interact. You have to figure that one out to whoever is reading this. It’s pretty fun.
Also another fun fact: The game has an IOS available in Japan and was planning on going global years ago but it never happened. Right now I think there’s a poll or a petition somewhere online to get this game to go global for western release.

They're very worn, but I still have my old Darkness Deck from when I was learning to play with friends. I have a singular copy of Ballom, Master of Death as my big boss card. I always wanted to really get into the game, but it didn't really take off. When they relaunched as Kaijudo, I made a Blue/Black deck based on returning cards to hand and discarding their hand, leaving them with no options to fight back. Unfortunately, the game only lasted about 2 weeks in my area and nobody wanted to play anymore. It was really cool to see someone talkin about the game again. :)

I dunno. My favorite thing about it was really the style, and the boxes that stuff came in. They had really cool boxes/packaging. I didn't realize it was basically just Duel Masters. That's awesome. I totally recognize some of the cards.

I have an Armored Blaster Valdios - and my father lost it (T.T )
If you've watched the anime series before, you know it's one of the finisher cards Shobu uses (like the one he used to attack the guy with the final blow, awesome animations!!) and one of the most iconic cards in the series. I am 26 now, and I was in grade school back then. It's not even holo, but it feels so good to have one. I didn't have a bag with me at that time. I asked my dad to keep it while we were driving home. I totally forgot about it that day, and yeah, tomorrow , he didn't know where he kept it. It's a damn core memory (inside out reference)-one of the saddest moments of my childhood.

Its much easier to get into then Yugioh for beginners and its quite fun too. Would love to see more of this, some duels or deck building as well would be cool, as almost nobody posts DM content. I really wish the jp cards would get localised in English, they have some wild stuff there.

Holy moly, what a blast from the past. We used to play Duel masters at school but no one knew how to play correctly so we just made up like 70% of the rules XD I guess the strategy Wizards of the coast used kinda worked.
