That's a good idea but some surfaces you can't scrape so another good option is use eucalyptus oil it's a natural sap oil from Australian Eucalyptus trees . It also strips off that sticky layer when plastic surfaces deteriorate . I saved my $400 prescription RayBan's because the arms were going all sticky even the optometrist could not fix them . Eucalyptus oil fixed it right up . Scrub vigorously with cue tips and soft cloths soaked with the oil and the original smooth surface reappears like magic . It's a natural product and not toxic externally . Just don't drink it .
Wow JV that is so cool! If I can find that stuff I will try it. Why not make a video of the process.... Great comment pls subscribe. Alas my channel could use more comments like This!!
your suggestion of Eucalyptus oil worked amazingly well... thank u
Just use 91% rubbing alcohol. No baby powder and no scraping. Also, it should not harm logos or labels when used gently over those, which other much stronger products like acetone definitely will.
Sounds logical. But Mouthwash smells nicer.
@teddidit6088 lol, and it works.
Also it's much cheaper for a MASSIVE bottle.
This saved my "night Stick" flashlight from the trash. Couldn't touch it without getting that sticky stuff all over my hands. This really worked. Thank you.
Wow TM nice job.Yes I got a few flashlites that are like that too . Why not make a video of the process.... Great comment pls subscribe. My channel could use more smart comments like This!!
No solvents, then says to use paints thinner, lighter fluid and lacquer thinner before settling on mouthwash, as it contains alcohol. Please explain how none of those are solvents.
he is trying to make the video interesting by showing the things normally used but instead he choses the one that is not a solvent.
it is simple to understand and I hope you appreciate his humor. I hope you are having a good day today.
dan raz says it best. As usual those who never post videos whine the most. [:
Could not have said it better dan. Some folks just love to complain even if it just shows how shallow they are. Rock on pal!
@@teddidit6088 Eh, they're being pedantic but they are technically correct. Alcohol is definitely a solvent, but so is water (limestone, sugar, salt, etc). The big thing that makes them different is that alcohol is more or less non-polar and water is polar so they tend to dissolve completely different things (e.g. salt does not dissolve in alcohol).
That said, the powder tip and guitar pick did most of the work, so solvent free isn't much of a a stretch imo!
Thanks for this, I was trying to clean this crap off an old Tivoli PAL and not remove the lettering and your tips helped
@@bundo13 Very good info here B13. Alcohol is a great liver dissolver I hear from my MD but after 50 yrs Im still ok.
Steel wool (brillo) pad either dry or only slightly damp worked excellent. Then wipe with iso alcohol and clean cloth if needed.
Well done man! Will try on my next one!!!
Top video! Worked for me! Thank you!
Glad it helped thanks
Great idea, will try this! Thanks!
Hope you like it! good luck sir!
Thank you. Nice job!!
Glad it was helpful!
Anyone who chooses to add soft touch coatings to their products should be flogged
I agree Mr. Balls! Yes this rubbery stuff don't last. If it is on a Nice camera or other device I would be angry to say the least. Anything with alcohol will probably remove it, but hate to waste a nice vodka on it... Cheers my friend! Pls consider subscribing, I could use more insiteful comments on my other videos!!!
I got big balls but you got the biggest balls of them all! [ACDC quote} Rock On!!
Interesting. I have lots of different solvents about the place. It would never of occurred to me to try mouthwash. I have used talcum powder and IPA before on these rubberised coatings. I've heard that the slimy breakdown coating is chemically similar to transmission fluid. I wish manufacturers would desist from using these coatings if they aren't chemically stable, though they do have a vested interest in trying to sell more products. I tend to avoid products with these rubberised coatings now.

does anyone see wich kind of spray hes using after he removed the sticky stuff?
do you mean spray paint? if so just 1 buck walmart brand.
Ive got an old camera lens with this crap on it. Alcohol took most of it off, but the labels were printed on top of the coating so those were lost and had to be added back with a labelmaker
Good info there WB! Wise move to save the type info. Lets all learn fro,m that. Sadly, These companys just make stuff & the life if them is ...who cares. They want us to buy more. Just like my printer that cost 100 and the new inks costs 45. Tks Amazon...
Very interesting technique that I haven't seen anywhere else! For future videos, though, please speak more loudly and clearly as the audio on this was very difficult to understand.
Thanks for writing, will do! Never Knew this would be so popular. Just did the vid in one take on cell fone on vacation at the beach.
or just get rid of the music and redo the video
Need to get rid of background music, can’t hear very well. Thanks
Ok next time. I will send you a check to heal your hurt feelings.
Hand sanitizer works great
yessir its got alcohol in there too. Good one!
"Without solvents" - Then he literally uses solvents. Duh
Sadly another person with no sense of humor that didnt even watch the whole video before shooting off their mouth. Maybe try some mouthwash sometime it is not a solvent GA. You might even be less offensive. But somehow I doubt it.
@@teddidit6088 I’m so sorry… But technically you said you were using mouthwash with alcohol. Alcohol is a solvent. I rewatched your video three times. I couldn’t hear anything to make the title make sense. I did look at the description and seen you said “harsh solvents” and thats great. You could edit the title and try to squeeze the word “Harsh” in there.
Thank you for the video. Thank you for leaving it up! I know this is an old video.
I restore old electronics and I go through gallons of ethanol. The paint it likely a good idea. It’s an imbalance in electrons that cause the problem and interaction with stuff in the air, basically dust. The paint will block that. Not always an option, but awesome work!
