  • As we age, most of us tend to stop paying attention to new music and stick with the songs from our past. Researchers explore why we narrow our horizons for exploring new music as we age and say listening to new tracks can help create new memory bonds and experience new pleasures.
The thrill of discovering new songs and new sounds can enrich people of all ages. Except, most of the time, it doesn’t.

I am musician. I think because music Is never neutral, the content of the music is the reason why old people don't like to listen most new music because a lot of previous rich harmonies, balance, dynamics and melodies are lost. When the world is going downhill, the arts suffer. If the some new music is of very good quality, then some old folks will like it had they listened. The notion that music has to be always loud in terms of mixing and playing performance destroys the beauty what music is suppose to be.
I like your topics very interesting.
This is my few cent quote and quote.

I had kids and was busy with work in my early / mid 30s. At that point, new music stopped. I just didn't have time (or energy) to worry about it. Now (at 50 - which makes me Gen X) I'm lucky enough to have a friend who is really into his music and introduces me to new things. But still mainly listen to anything pre-2000. That ranges from the Sex Pistols to Mozart, depending on mood.
Currently in a Billie Eilish phase. My 17 year old daughter gives me weird looks when I put it on. Haha...

Maybe, just maybe, much of pop music is boring to we older folks who have seen it all before. Kudos to current artists who break out of the mold.
