What I love about the film is that they didn't make the wife a jaleous, mean character just to stirr some more drama into it. She is so genuinely nice.
When Michael is trying to walk away from Buddy, there’s a guy in the far background that saw the camera and then immediately went back inside his house. Also, all the ppl in the background of New York weren’t actors lol 😂 they were all regular New Yorkers
4:10 red suit head elf is actually ralphie from a xmas story. & u were spot on about ur child not believing by 8. google says by 8 they stop believing. ugh, my daughter just turned 5 too! time goes by fast, cherish her believing in the big man while it lasts
I love Elf because it is its own story but it references some classic Christmas shows & books in a respectful & nostalgic way. In some ways it's a typical "fish out of water" comedy but it adds heartfelt Christmas stuff in just the right proportion. And the premise that set the action in motion was original, being about a guy that grew up with elves & acts weird not because he's crazy but because he's just innocent like a child due to that isolation.
Love the sweater man. Your endless energy has got me in the mood to set up all the christmas lights and decorations around the house lmao. Keep up the good work!
Don't worry mate, i knew Santa wasnt real years before I was 8 (two older siblings). It doesn't tarnish Christmas that bad. It doesnt tarnish Christmas for more than a year!
I"m not Christian nor a fan of Will Ferrell, but I love this movie! It's silly in the just the right way, and Will pulls off an adult character who's supremely naive. The scene at the beginning when he sitting in Bob Newhart's lap had me on the floor. Likewise the first time he thought he was going to see Santa and melted down like a little boy, but then grills the actor for not being the real Santa. I also like a skit he did with a 3yo girl who played his landlord who swore like a sailor.
Christmas is now hardly a holiday just for Christians. They don't speak of religion at all in this movie. Enjoying Christmas movies has nothing to do with religion.
@@sean-ew2qvMy thoughts exactly. Christmas movies never preach the word of christ, they're simply often great movies that remind us to be kind to each other and appreciate what we have.
My foster boys didn't believe in Santa, they were 5 and 9, the 5 year old broke my heart so my brain went into super mom mode and I stopped them and I said wait, no one's told you yet? They were like told us what? I said no, of course Santa can't get to everyone's house with presents, that's just what the stories become, Santa comes and he gives things you can't unwrap, one year he gave me courage, the next he gave me motivation to work to get smarter, one year he helped me find a best friend, things like that, and they were SO relieved to know Santa hadn't forgotten about them, the other kids just thought he brought all the presents.
"You sit on a throne of lies!" Fun Fact: Theatrical movie debut of Meghan Black. Method Director Fact: Director Jon Favreau used a remote control to trigger the Jack In The Box toys to get the startled reactions from Will Ferrell. Casting Notes Fact: The elf Ming Ming, who appears briefly in the beginning of the film, is played by Peter Billingsley, who starred as Ralphie Parker in the classic holiday film A Christmas Story (1983). Inspired Costumes Fact: The design for Santa's Workshop as well as the elf uniforms come from Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer (1964). The elf uniforms completely mirror the ones from the television special. Most of the animals in the North Pole are also designed to look like the same form of stop-motion animation used in that movie. Guerilla Filmmaking Fact: On the final day of shooting in New York City, it was just director Jon Favreau, Will Ferrell, and a camera man driving around the city looking for locations to shoot. They would jump out and ask pedestrians if they would be willing to be extras for some quick cash, while Ferrell paraded around acting like Buddy. Much of the montage when Buddy first arrives in New York City was filmed then, such as when he is getting his shoes shined, and jumping between traffic. Several minor traffic accidents occurred when Will Ferrell walked through the Lincoln Tunnel in his costume, because people were so surprised (and distracted from their driving) to see him wearing an elf outfit.
I was also 8 when I asked my mom (fully knowing the answer, I know I was seeing what she would say) if Santa was real. - My advice is to say what my mother said to me: Santa is a spirit of giving and when someone gives a Christmas gift, they are becoming Santa, so I become Santa and you become Santa. - In this way, I NEVER stopped believing in Santa (and I knew my mother would not lie to me, so win-win).
I never seen this movie before, what a pleasant surprise, enjoyed it from start to finish. Even laughed out loud a few times. LOL. That story about the escalator was-PRICELESS-loved it.
Will is great, but down a bit on the SNL list... John Belushi Bill Murray Eddie Murphy Chevy Chase Adam Sandler Then there's Will Chris Farley Dan Aykroyd Mike Myers Jimmy Fallon Gilda Radner Kristen Wig Chris Rock Dana Carvey Tina Fey ...& many more
Good list, My list of SNL greats is different... Chris Farley is my #1, after that I struggle to rank them. But to name a few of my favorites, Mike Myers, Adam Sander, Will Ferrell, Will Forte, Kristen Wig, Bill Hader, Tracey Morgan..... I could keep going. I love them all.
One of the funniest Christmas movies ever made. In real life neither director Jon Favreau nor Will Ferrell liked working with each other on the set movie, presumably that didn't like each other's ideas on what the final cut of the movie should be.
my favorite part of this movie is the jack in the box because those are all real reactions the directorhad it wired so it only went off if he pushed a button so will couldnt predict it and all the nyc street scenes were done with just will and a small crew without filming permits so theres no extras thats just new yorkers going about their day
I recommend that you watch The Hitchhiker’s Guide to The Galaxy, Galaxy Quest, The Waterboy, Inspector Gadget, Tarzan, Flubber, Anastasia, The Prince Of Egypt, Joseph: King Of Dreams, Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken, Team America: World Police, Disney’s The Kid, The Master Of Disguise, The Powerpuff Girls Movie, Scooby-Doo (2002), Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed, Monsters, Inc., Monsters University, Monsters VS Aliens, Shark Tale, Turbo, WALL-E, Legally Blonde, Madagascar, Robots, Chicken Little, Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of The Were-Rabbit, The Sixth Sense, A Beautiful Mind, Road To Perdition, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Edward Scissorhands
Don’t know if anyone has pointed this out yet, but Buddy’s crush/girlfriend is Zooey Deuschenel! She’s been in movies like 500 Days of Summer and she can actually sing and is very good at it! She’s best known for her role in New Girl, which ran 2010-2018
Just realized, how did Buddy buy that lingerie? He had no money, he wasn't employed at that store, and he wasn't paid at the North Pole, so I think he just stole it lol.
Meh, all the people around me discovered that Santa wasn’t real around 8-9 years old (myself included and that was before internet was even available for public)! So your daughter is the normal age to have made this sad discovery!
In a lot of movies/shows, the male protagonist falls for the “manic pixie dream girl”. The girl who is unlike any other, whimsical and quirky. This movie flips it on its head and has the girl fall for the guy who is like that. It’s so fun!
Some facts about this movie that i know about will got headaches from all the sugar he engulfed and everyone on the street of new york were real people not actors including the santa and will even caused car crashes while filming this

You should react to *The Polar Express (2004)* & *Christmas Vacation (1989)*
+ another REALLY fun action movie, *Alita: Battle Angel (2019)* too!
What I love about the film is that they didn't make the wife a jaleous, mean character just to stirr some more drama into it. She is so genuinely nice.
