  • We got some new ITO samples, Becky Stern experiments with them by lighting up some LEDs on this clear material!

Could you create clear capacitors with this material? I'm looking to make a large plat capacitor and if I can make it clear it's going to look so much more awesome.

Hot damn, also, I want your job. So much clearer than in dry academic papers about invasive neural probes.

I want to see traces milled out of this stuff via CNC. Exciting possibility for a see-through LED matrix if done right.

looking into making complex traces on ITO. maybe this can be etched like with standard circuit boards?

Wondering about the resistance and how much current it'll take.

There is a way to make that without going to great expense..
You can buy clear wood varnish water it down with thinner and add tin or aluminum powder then using a paint sprayer coat thin bits of plastic..
Ive done it and it works... Give it a try... ;)

can ITO be evaporated on glass surface by vacuum coating process?

  • @JustinHallPlus
    @JustinHallPlus 11 років тому

indium is in short supply, so wouldn't recommend making curtains with it. Wait a few years, and Graphene will probably be suitable for that.

Now that would be a neat if you could etch it and make a flexible "pcb" at home.

I don't think ITO is deposited on glass or plastic by spin coating. I wish it was, but I'm 99% sure it's a much more complex and expensive process.

This is curious. can you print the ITO like a PCB?
This might be a nice way to make 3D LED objects (Im keen on the cubes). It seems to me that if they circuit was printed, you could screen print the conductive glue, and place the parts with standard SMT equipment and techniques, and end up with nice even planes of multiplexed or charlieplexd LEDs. The matrices can easily turned into cubes by layering, but because they are flexible, they could be turned into many things (headband, bracelet, ...)

since you commented this 10 years ago you might be dead but you could do what you described with physical vapor deposition

The big question is, is it laser-etch safe? Either the plastic or the glass-coated variants?

    • @sadder9531

James Fallon the Pet fillm is cooling by spining at high rpm and it is not placed in the same chamber of sputtering ,
the ITO particles comes trough a tube from a near chamber , in this way it is possible to coat substrate with ITO but at low temperature ...
i wanna know how to make pattern and etch the ITO PET chemically , not using Laser DPSS machines

Ill also take the chance to thanks you guys for making materials and products like these more easily available.

    "new"
used for touchscreens all over the world. Instead you can also use:
Fluorine tin oxide, aluminium doped zink oxide, or antimony tin oxide.
and of course there are many more...
