I believe Joscho enjoys playing rhythm. His support of the lead is exceptional. It probably comes from his confidence that his lead will be inspired, always. He seems to embrace other instruments contribution. The violins and bass are important to the piece and to him. Somewhat unique.
Every time i watch any gypsy jazz video the bass player always looks like hes going to kill himself after the performance, i think its caused they're never featured and don't have any solos, poor guys.
