Not even spiritually. While Aang is connected to Roku spiritually, Roku isn't spiritually connected to Zuko, just genetically. You could say, Roku is connected to one spiritually and to the other one genetically/physically.
1:52 so true! Absolutely love the lore building and world building… series is amazing, Dante you’re the man! Haven’t watched Korra yet but just rewatched aang and I’m stoked !! Thanks for existing ! ❤
23:08 Caption correction: Dante says “Chalk up an L.” which is a colloquial phrase meaning “Mark this event down as a loss, stop current efforts, move on to other areas where help is still needed.” Context: Scorekeeping for street games was often done using chalk marks on the street/sidewalk/asphalt, or on a chalkboard for gym games. So if you were clearing going to lose game 1 of a series you would say “Chalk up an L.” to end that game, mark it as a loss, and move on to game 2 instead of wasting energy on a lost cause.
Spiritually, they are technically related with the whole, Aang’s past life was Roku and Roku was Zuko’s great grandfather Physically, they act like bros but their not biologically related
27:13 - I think Ify had an excellent point here that didn’t fully land with Janet and Dante. While the intro obviously referred to Aang’s disappearance, based on what we learned in this episode it could also have a second meaning - Roku disappeared when the world needed him most.. to stop the 100 year war, the same thing the world needed Aang for. And the term “disappeared” refers to someone going missing in unclear circumstances, such as a natural disaster, especially when the true reason they didn’t make it out (Sozin) is unknown to the rest of the world!
It could have that second meaning, and I can see it. Though seeing that the series is more focused on Aang, and you said it yourself the intro obviously referred to Aang, Ify is in the wrong. He was specifically asking about the intro and what the disappearance referred to - which is clearly the period where Aang disappeared for 100 years. I was a bit disappointed during this segment since it was very clear Ify completely forgot about why Aang got frozen in ice.
I love the avatar series so much. I absolutely love the heavy east influences and some indigenous culture mixed in. I grew up watching the show, it introduced me to so much in the world that I couldn’t even comprehend.
Another interesting foreshadow report was when Roku said some friendships transcend lifetimes. It just didn't point to Roku and Aang's friendship with Gyatso, but also to rhe friendship between two generationa of the Avatar and the Fire Lord
Janet, For a moment, You were going to give us Aang's quote from the final episode of Korra's season one by saying "when you are at your lowest point..." 😆
I mean if you also consider how avatar Szeto treated his duty and priorities the Fire nation above the other nations it is then more understandable why Fire lord Sozin assumed Avatar Roku would side with him and the Fire nation
Young Roku/young Sozin is one of my ships as well. For me, it was the moment in the flashback where Roku is lying down and Sozin is dropping grass on Roku's face. I think if Roku had continued to be a close part of Sozin's life, either by Roku staying with Sozin or Sozin joining Roku on his Avatar training journey, Sozin wouldn't have gone down the path he did. Roku was Sozin's anchor so when Roku went away to train for twelve years, Sozin anchored himself to looking after his nation which warped to nationalistic ambition. When it comes to Aang being related to Zuko, I'm going to take the position that they are not. Zuko's relation to Roku is more significant to Zuko than Roku's relation to Zuko is to Ruko. Note that Iroh reveals this info to Zuko but Ruko does not reveal this info to Aang. I think part of the reason is that "the Avatar's sole duty is to the world" so a deep attachment to bloodline would conflict with that just like a deep sense of nationalism. Remember that the last step of mastering the Avatar state is letting go of attachments. Could you imagine what a mess it would create having multiple previous Avatars want to connect with their descendants. It makes more sense that Avatasr need to let go of their final attachments when they pass away to set the next Avatar up for success in fulfilling their duties to the world. Zuko could be important to Roku the person but he would not be any more important than anyone else to Roku [in his role as] the Avatar.
@@smooth99me yeah that still wouldn't mean biologically that would still just mean spiritually, Aang is not Roku Biologically nor is he related to roku Biologically in anyway, they're related spiritually in the sense of they've got the avatar spirit, so roku is aangs past life, so Aang isn't Zukos great grandfather by Biological means but he is by spiritual means
Im sure the avatar has been related to everyone at this point, especially since they rotate through the nations and rotate through the areas of spiritual significance within those nations. Aang and zuko arent related, zuko and roku are.

Yes. However, keep in mind that this is primarily a talk show where they talk very openly with guests about a wide range of ATLA/LoK topics, which includes speculation and statements made based solely on their own memory of what happened, not any verified source. (just like any group of fans would casually discuss it with each other) Because of this context, whenever something is meant to be received by fans as completely canon Janet will explicitly state as much, usually by specifying that said fact came directly from someone involved in the show. (such as the co-creators Mike and Bryan)
Avatars are told on their 16th birthday that they are the avatar. Aang was told early because of the impending fire nation attack. Gyatso didn’t want aang to be told so young and tried to protect him from it. They told aang anyway and he ran away and got frozen in the iceberg
