  • We are nearing the end of the eastern part of our Trans America Trail adventure and the day didn't go without a few hiccups. Thankfully, I received so much valuable advice from all of ya'll - and it got put to good use today when Ashley dropped her bike

    Lol. Ashley isn’t tall enough for the monkey trick however the entertainment value was a 10 out of 10. 😂😂😂😂

    Never been into the adventure bike thing but you’re making it look really intriguing

    She was suppose to put her feet on the bottom of the rim ,not the swing arm. I'm sure it still helped though.
    It looks like a sweet place to ride

    🤣 “Let’s try this thing, I saw it on UA-cam, it’s called the monkey. Now don’t let go till your butt touches the ground, you comfortable with that?” 😂🤣😂
    Maybe have a “safe” word next time. 👍🏼

    This is exactly what I was hoping to see. The struggles of being on the TAT. Adam, you seem to be having a great time. Watching you and Ashley gain experience and confidence as the ride goes on has been great.

    Say what want... not only is Ashley stunningly beautiful... she's a good sport!!!! My late wife Cathy and I rode that stretch of road to the Oark store. The year we rode up there, the Pig Trail highway 23 was closed due to a rock slide, so we went in the back way. We were looking for a shortcut to get back to Jasper, Arkansas, and the locals told us of a shortcut so we took it. It turned out to be 15 miles of gravel road, and I was on a Dyna Wide Glide, and she was on her Sportster. It was dusty & slippery but still an adventure. I highly recommend if you go back to that area, stop at the Oark General Storere for a really, really, great burger.

    Come on Adam, you should know everything people do on UA-cam isn’t necessarily the right way. You guys are always good for some entertainment though.😂

    On the monkey, Ashley is supposed to put her feet on the tire and rim of the bike, not the swing arm. That puts her weight lower on the bike for greater leverage.

  • @bik3rwave169
    @bik3rwave169 4 роки тому +4

    the feet should be on the rim not the chain guard, which will lower the bottom half of the 2nd person to ground level when the bike is straight up. also grabbing onto the pannier its self has helped in trying this on other bikes. I about spit out my water watching it, 100/100 entertainment!!

    Hey you two! I really need to be brutally honest with you! This hands down is a great adventure but there are serious realities that you both need to consider - riding bigger/heavier loaded bikes and rocky conditions! I havent personally ridden the TAT but I have ridden a lot of mountain trails and offroaded a good amount in Washington state and elsewhere. I have watched many TAT videos of this trail and it is certainly beautiful! BUT you guys need to really investigate whats coming to you in Colorado, Utah, Nevada, and Oregon..there are some fairly treacherous parts of the TAT there...extremely rocky with some steep drops (that challenge even experienced riders)...these areas will pose problems for inexperience and can be an issue!!! Im unsure how you guys are approaching that but I would really THINK about that before getting yourselves into a bad situation! I also believe in no guts no glory, but with safeguards in place! As I watch you guys traverse these trails and see the dropping of the bikes on the trails ..this is nothing compared to what you are heading for! SO with that said PLEASE review your routes really well and try and be wary of the areas that really might be a problem for your experience levels!!! Be safe and have a blast but also be SMART! AN ADDED NOTE: Climbing on steeper rocky trails is easier than descending on rocky trails...so keep that in mind!

    • @jasonpannett1325
      @jasonpannett1325 4 роки тому +1

      I agree with you 100% it gets real when you get into the Rockies very steep and rocky. I did part of the tat in Silverton and telluride. Ophir pass very steep and a long grade be sure to stand on your pegs if you do this section engineer pass lots of switchback I was on a klr 650 glad I wasn't on a bigger bike. The Arkansas tat was very easy warloop road is the hardest part of trail. Please be safe you two really enjoy watching your videos. Keep the rubber side down. Oh yeah no monkeying around! Lol!

    • @steves3688
      @steves3688 4 роки тому

      @@jasonpannett1325 Yeah Jason my two main worries for them is the inexperience and the big loaded bikes - risky combination. Pictures/videos will never ever tell a true story of road conditions and grades no matter how many times you watch or view them! The real deal can be overwhelming scary( RISKY) for riders that havent truly experienced this stuff thus creating situations that arent good! I dont want to be negative with them just want them to enjoy this ride with reduced risks! Yes a KLR 650 would be a good bike choice. Enough power and not overly heavy...I think the allure of all the adventure bikes out there get people buying into the larger bikes that when you ride trails arent the best choice...they are best for gravel roads and paved riding...I am considering trying the entire TAT and am studying up on it..If i do it I will be doing it on a well modified Kawasaki Versys 300...lightweight and good enough to handle this stuff after the modifications are done...maybe next year for me...

    MoskoMoto 80 L is the shit!! Panniers is a secret code word for those Bike Made Weird (BMW) riders. They also have a secret hand shake, LOL!! When in Doubt...Throttle Out. Here is something, I can't see her eyes. Is Ashley target fixating? That could become an issue once you get to MOAB and up in to CO, ID, OR. Eyes take you where you want to go.

    These videos are too danged short! Now you're getting into the meat of the TAT.
    When in doubt, throttle out! I think if Ashley had gassed it once she got out of the ditch she wouldn't have dropped the bike. She may have roosted a bit but she could have kept forward motion.

    Adam--- Panniers is a French word for bread basket (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pannier). A Frenchman carries his baguettes in his panniers on his bicycle. Saddlebags come from the american west. A cowboy carries his bacon and ammo in a saddlebag. Panniers is used on Adventure bikes because a lot Europeans don't know what a saddlebag is.

    Adam, when it comes time to replace tires on your adventure bikes, here's some advice. Your tires are like two GYRO's and help to stabilize your bike. The lighter the tires the less stabilization. Heavier tires increase stabilization. You can really notice this in loose gravel or sandy conditions. Heavy tires will track better to help keep the bike upright. When you it a rock with your front tire it will not try to deflect as much and try going over it instead of around the rock. A heavy back tire will track better under power and tend to travel in a straight line.
