  • For all the sci-fi enthusiasts who've already binge-watched iconic series like For All Mankind, Foundation, and Fallout, there's another show heading your way that you won’t want to miss. Even better, this upcoming series is directly connected to the events of the hugely popular Dune movie franchise.
This November, Warner Bros. Discovery and Legendary are bringing the iconic desert world of Arrakis, with all its rich symbolism and the ever-important spice, to HBO with Dune: Prophecy. It’s the perfect time for fans to start gearing up by exploring the latest buzz around creative changes, casting choices, and potential plot twists for this fresh addition to the Dune universe.
Technically speaking, Dune: Prophecy serves as a prequel to the Dune movie series directed by Denis Villeneuve. This spin-off is set around 10 thousand years before the events of the first film and will focus on the origins of the Bene Gesserit, a secretive order of women with immense influence over society, religion, and politics in Frank Herbert's universe. Dune: Prophecy is based on the novel Sisterhood of Dune by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson, which is a prequel to Brian Herbert's father's earlier Dune novels and the opening book in The Great Schools of Dune trilogy. As for whether knowing all that backstory - or even future events - is essential for viewers to enjoy the new show, showrunner Alison Schapker shared her thoughts with Collider:
