No one ever looked better in a suit than Robert Palmer.Fantastic singer, and he pushed musical and visual boundaries. He was years ahead of his time. He went way too young.
@@ritchiec6317 I totally get what you're saying. He dressed professionally smooth and was clean-cut and dapper. Like he could have been a GQ magazine model. I just told someone recently that I could have even imagined him in films, like a cool James Bond-type character.
I love Robert Palmer's version of this tune. But a BIG special thanks to Cherelle, who recorded the original. She was perhaps best known for her duets with Tabu label mate, Alexander O'Neal.
He sure as hell did mean to! And yes, such a tragedy. I was about 10 when this came out and always liked him but I appreciate his voice so much more now.
[11 January 2022] You're so right! Of *COURSE* he meant to turn us on. You know, I've always found this to be an awfully rooguish, disingenuous song (you know, because Palmer's singing about how he didn't mean to turn us on, but we know, of course, he *DOES* mean to turn us on, and he knows we know, and we know he knows we know, etc., and of course that's the whole point of the song)...but that's what makes it fun, of course.
Everyone comments on how cool, classy, handsome, looks good, sounds good, elegent and stylish Palmer was. Those weren't his strengths in my eyes. It was how experimental he was. He created his own genre of music and created some original works of art. He converted other songs into amazing Robert Palmer versions. He later remixed his earlier work into newer, even better versions. This guy was an artist!
+Twosie76 Yea but what ABOUT MARVIN GAYE. OMG SO SEXY. GOT BETTER LOOKING AS HE GOT OLDER. Check out DARYL HALL HERE ON UTUBE DOING ME AND MRS JONES. UNREAL. AND HE IS 70 years young today and looks 45. Sexiest 70 year old man on the flat earth.
OH HEAVEN,,so this is what a real man looks like,,an amazing talent, handsome, suave, sexy WOW,well they must of needed another Angel to take him so young when he was bringing so much happiness to push away the misery,,RIP Robert,,pat mason
Had the pleasure of seeing him when he and Elkie Brooks fronted Vinegar Joe back in the early 70's. Great voice, stage presence and some really good funky/soul oriented tunes. Loved his music - died way too young. RIP Robert.
In 1987 Robert Palmer appeared on several awards shows. The American Music Awards, the Grammys and others. He performed I Didn't Mean To Turn You On each time.
I've always been pretty pragmatic & never understood women screaming & crying over the stars du jour. But then I saw him live in 1986, & I got it- it was like standing on an electrified grid. Such an understated cool, yet so incredibly hot- I thought I would pass out on the spot. 35 years later I still feel the same. He sang so many genres & did it perfectly, no other singer came close to his effortless style. Sad such a talented life was cut so short.
I listened to these songs in the 80s.. However I was more into club dance music at that time. I honestly have been watching Robert for the last 2 days. I didn't appreciate his talent back then. He had the 'it' factor. Back 4 years later. He ALWAYS wore a suit. So classy. I can't believe he's passed but people know talent when they see it. They even play his music on commercials now.
Come on man do your thing Robert you did mean to turn us on you left us to legacy beautiful music thank you you did mean a turn us on you didn't mean to turn us on..
He didn't mean too turn me on.... But he did with his music... R.I.P. Robert.. you'll be missed by lots of people on planet earth.... but as they say... you are up there with the stars.. shining down on us... hope we can meet up someday.... chris..
+HowDareThey1970 I saw an interview with him where he said that he was old-fashioned in that he thought an entertainer should dress to be presentable for a performance.
His style to perform is smooth and so much fun. I love the expressions he makes! So fun to watch, gets me into the song and atmosphere. Also, his smiles in between are priceless. I love this song, so catchy. For me one of the most interesting artists from the old times. R.I.P huge talent. I hope you lived a fulfilled life.
In his CD/DVD 'At His Very Best' (Brilliant compilation!) he introduces this song by explaining it was actually him finding the female versions, written by men, very sexist so he turned it to a male perspective...a bit of a piss take actually. He fooled me in this video though...he turns me on with very little effort indeed!
I Love this man!! I had the PLEASUE OF SEEING HIM LIVE with a Beautiful Black Lady, AAaaauugh!! What a performance they made!! What Style, Grace and Class the man had, it makes me sick to think that he is gone!!!! I call him THE GENTLEMAN OF ROCK-AND-ROLL!!! BEST DRESSED AWARD 1990; By MTV!! ANDY TAYLOR [Duran Duran] Said of his Friend ROBERT PALMER "My Friend Wore A Suit Everyday..." How Cool were these guys, ya know!? I wish I could have sat and drank with them and listened to the stories...
That Robert Palmer was one Cool Cat. He had class, elegance and one cool voice to melt the ladies...RIP in Robert, you will never be forgotten and thanks for your cool style in music.
R.I.P. Robert Palmer.......This Dude had Flavor and Swag!!! I loved this Masculine Version Of Cherelle’s “I Didn’t Mean To Turn You On!!” ❤️💯🔥🔥🔥🔥🙏🏽👊🏽👍🏽

At 60, this song got me out of bed and I couldn’t stop dancing. I was in collage when this song hit and my body still remember all the leg moves. I can dance all night but better be safe and dance tomorrow love. I love you Sir Robert ❤
I studied his life and career quite extensively, (well as much as the internet could provide). I was shocked at the diversity of his music. And I was shocked at the very songs that I enjoyed in my younger years came from a man 23 years my senior! In the study I found myself jamming on some of his songs and crooned by his smooth voice on others. One of my favorites is “Say you will” it’s not the one on his earlier album, but the one I found on UA-cam made in 2002. I was swooned!
and God said: let there be elegance and style ... and Robert Palmer was made
Carlo: U said it!!!!!!2020.

The smoothest, swanginest male singer in rock history
Robert Palmer is the best dressed man in Rock & Roll.
That is a very accurate statement.
No one ever looked better in a suit than Robert Palmer.Fantastic singer, and he pushed musical and visual boundaries. He was years ahead of his time. He went way too young.
Robert Palmer, a man who didn't mean to turn us on but still managed to turned us all on with his voice and elegance.
Exactly!!I was a junior in high school. I miss the 80’s, 90,s
So true!
😢@@Tad-For-Global-Peacesame here.
Devastatingly Handsome -
Still basking in the afterglow of his well deserved Grammy.
Always loved him-
Now looking back- he's as beautiful as Alain Delon
The James Bond of rock.
Any dislikes are most likely from jealous men who are intimated by the overload of funky smoothness exuded by this guy.
Says a jealous hag that hated Pamela Anderson fine ass 😂
The dude is much to cool 😎 to hate on.
Palmer hitting it big in the US with suave electro funk meets synth pop.
Seriously, crush on a Jimmy Jam/Jimmy Lewis song. Go Figure!
He always looked like a lawyer doctor or professor, not a Rock Star. And boy, he was AWESOME!
Only Palmer could pull off the song "I didn't mean to turn you on ..." coming from a guy. Lol.
le smooth avocat ❤salut
I don't know any of those professions who had his style, look & elegance!! You may want to have your eyes checked‼🤔
