@@TheMisslauren1234 RP once said in an interview that he found the lyrics sexist, the song was originally written and performed by a teenage girl (Cherelle), and he covered the song as a parody, but nobody got the irony and took it seriously. That it turned out sexy nontheless due to RP's personal charisma, that's more irony.
@aplantagereloaded You can see that he meant it as a parody in the official video. He rolls his eyes and shakes his hips momentarily... I smile each time I watch it. He was one sexy, sophisticated man with charisma and charm to spare. How I wish he had lived longer.
Damn, I miss Robert Palmer, if the "stars" of today had his style, cool, and class - they might be worth a damn. R.I.P. Robert Palmer - you were one in 10 million, brother.
It can but gen z don’t bother trying to use synthesisers properly, they brag they don’t need any music knowledge, press a button and the computer does it all, which is why the music sounds crap now
Listening to this now as an adult, I enjoy it even more. It's not overtly sexual like songs today, but the subtle tease and addictive groove is better than the raunchy artists of today. Robert Palmer was a sexy beast!
Can’t help but to dance when I hear this song 🎧 that beat is the best that voice is just the icing on the cake… long live 80s music always makes me feel like a kid again…
He was such a little tease!! Nice mix - can't get enough of him so an extended version of anything Robert Palmer did can only be a good thing. One of my favourite songs of his.
I bought this when it came out all those years ago. I thought then that it was an outstanding piece of upbeat musical arrangement, and I think that now. I belive the late Bernard Edwards, that legendary bassist, was the producer. Hence, all that great bass.
I remember hearing Robert Palmer's version of Cherelle's huge hit from 39 years ago ( 1984 ) just before I left Michigan for California 37 years ago ( 1986 ). Both versions were danceable classics, Palmer's version had an incredible guitar and drums hook and me and my late Mom enjoyed it, so much so, she said " How can a white guy do something any other R&B group or singer can do?" It's sad that Robert Palmer is no longer with us, he would've been 74 this year if he lived, but thankfully Cherelle is still with us, and because of that, both renditions of I Didn't Mean You On are true banging R&B classics to this day. Can you imagine Cherelle's King Kong vs. Palmer's Models in a competition? Nevermind, just a playful thought. Great extended version of the hit by the way.
I am so glad to find this post, a terrific dance remix from MY decade, of one of my fave tunes by one of my fave singers - pure bliss & cheers muchly! RIP to the rich-like-honey-voiced & sorely missed songwriter Mr Robert (shuda been knighted for services to groovin) Palmer X*X
I didn't know until recently that this a cover. The original was sung be a singer called Cherrelle. I put both in my Palmer playlist. Thanks for the upload!
Cherelles was the first version, RP often joked that people didnt really seem to get that it was meant ironically when a middle aged man sang these lyrics rather than a young woman.
Great song! Never heard the Mariah Carey version, I don't care for her at all, but I love this RP version. The Cherrelle version has my preference though.
Rest in peace 🙏

The growl kills me every time. A growl like that coming from a polished, well educated man is just too damn much. I seriously can't even.
Giggle. :) And the coy lyrics ...
@@aligensa i know right? these lyrics are so cold

Impressive mix of this song I think even Rob would have said so.

A great British soul singer...miss him almost as much as Marvin!
He was born in Switzerland not England....
I've heard him called "the white Marvin" the only one to do it.

Pimpin' was serious as a heart attack when he put this joint down in the studio.
That expression makes me sad, because he died at a relatively young age of a heart attack. :(
