SHOPPING AT THE BIGGEST FOOD MARKET IN ACCRA GHANA | THE COST OF FOOD IN GHANA | LIVING IN GHANA
With another day in Accra, Ghana ahead of me, I set out bright and early to check out an amazing West African market! Join me as I explore the biggest market in Accra and buy some local Ghana produce to cook delicious Ghana food later on.
At this Accra market you can shop for anything from snails, fresh vegetables, meat, fish and cooked Ghana street food. The prices of food has increased significantly within a very short period of time. In this video i buy food in bulk and we get to compare the final cost of food now versus the last time i was in a market.
This market is a must see if you ever head into Ghana and you want to connect with the reality of most local Ghanaians living in Ghana.

My parents are of Ghanaian descent and so am I although I was born in Australia. Here on my channel, my goal is to give you a real glimpse into what it’s like to live in Ghana, from the Ghanaian food, to the Ghanaian culture, to the Ghanaian lifestyle and everything in between. My goal is to satisfy your curiosity about Ghana and help inspire to explore Ghana.
My prayer is that these videos do just that for several African’s in the diaspora.
Follow your bliss because life is short, follow your bliss because human life has no intrinsic value, follow your bliss because everything happens for the greater good and follow your bliss because it has all happened before.

Living in Ghana now has made me understand the value of money even more, because now I know first hand how inflation affects citizens on "THEIR" budget, not my western mindset. Now I'm bargaining with prices and services like a local. Seriously, Ghana must grow more of their own food, and citizens must buy more local goods. Let's start there.

It's the govt that should get serious. The fooling is too much. Just ban/reduce the import of rice, tomatoes, sugar, chicken, stuff we can produce here locally. That one too we can't do? Nigeria has banned the import of rice, and there's huge patronage for Nigeria rice.
We should go beyond appeals for Ghanaians to buy made in Ghana stuff. Ban/reduce imports and support local production. Oh

    • @YawAsafo

True, and the mindset of the citizenry must change too, because I have to search for local rice, because the citizenry mostly want foriegn rice.

I use to shop here every Saturday when I lived in Ghana. The gov't needs to work on the agriculture sector. For those saying it's cheap because of the conversion, the prices are not cheap for the average Ghanaian. Agbogbloshie market is like the wholesale for the neighborhood grocery shops. You can imagine their prices. For the average Ghanaian, this is unsustainable.

Accra is gradually becoming a city for the rich and mid class… its developing so fast making cost of living quite high. Accra is turning into New York, london and many other expected cities. Eventually people will start moving to other regions for survival. Its just a matter of time unfortunately.

This video really opened my eyes. I am being cheated at DOME market, the tomatoes I buy for 40 cedis in the market here is not even up to 20 pieces. I need to go to makola markets.
Sometimes these sellers notice you’re not Ghanaian and they increase the prices. Same thing with buying of sanitary pad the other day, this lady sold me pad for 30 cedis and it cost about 15 cedis or 10 when I later bought at the mall.
It’s not really good what some of these sellers do to foreigners who don’t speak their language.

@@mkoly7203 my apologies if I offended anyone, that was not my intention at all. I was just stating that all that the lovely Ms. AMA brought home would be the price that I stated at a minimum. I understand the income disparity. I as one from the diaspora have to weight the pro and the cons about relocating. That was all I was stating.

    Thank you Queen,
    For taking us shopping 😊
I don't think you can compare food prices to that in USA. 🤔
Here there is so much free food. Also the government gives away tons of food benefits especially to families with children. Also most people work so hard for very little. I can't help from worrying about my in-laws in Kumasi and how well they are fairing. 😢 So sad
Queen how many cedi to USA dollar
How much for goat me. The last time I was there it was 8 ced a lb. I think🤔
    Ashia is a great shopper.
I miss Ghana and the great food. Had lots of laughs today. Thanks Queen

Government gives food stamps to families with low income please emphasize on that because Ghanaians will think once you have children, you get free benefits in America is NO. I'm a registered nurse in Texas and based on my income I don't qualify for any free benefits.

Yes it is very true that in US they give free food but not to everyone that qualifies to get it, also the don't give free yam tilipia both salted and fresh the kind of african food is not given free here, if you want dried fish you need to buy it yourself, at this time a box of yam is sold at 100.00$ .
But Jas thanks very much for taking us through the maket, the prices compared to here in US is wayyy better.than u.

Hi Jasmine, I just saw you buying meat, I have seen you buying fish too a lot of times, but do Ghanians eat pork? And it is not Ghana alone, all over the world prices for everything went up. I saw the prices in Ghana, in Curaçao in the Caribbean the prices are 3, 4 and sometimes even 5 times more expensive than in Ghana! I love your jellow dress!

Hi ya in Ghana in my family we, I've never eaten pork there. I'm not a fan. Was just in Accra last month. And growing up as a kid in NYC when parents moved to USA, for Thanksgiving they adopted some traditions and occasionally had ham. True in Caribbean Curacao so expensive just there few months ago and Turks & Caicos pricey too with all the imports. Can't wait for my next Caribbean vacation .
