I'm 64 y/o, and I have had seizures since age 20. Very subtle, but fairly common. The biggest problem that the epilepsy has caused a significant amount of memory loss. I practiced internal medicine for 20 years, and had to retire at age 46 because of my memory problems. Excersice is one of the most important things, and keeping busy and having a basic, same activity list. Learn more, keep learning and keeping your brain active. Staying positive is tough but important!!!

My grandmother is 84yrs old. This year she started what to me seems like absentee seizures. She stares off into space, usually stops breathing, grinds her teeth or clintches her jaw, unresponsive at times, usually releases a guttural growl accompanied by an hard dip in blood pressure (normally 140/80 dips to 80/80 or lower). Usually once EMTs arrive she is out of the episode. Can speak enough to answer her name and birth date. But has no idea what happened the 5-10mins prior. Can say she doesn't want to go to the hospital mainly because she has no idea what happened. The ER doctors keep saying its because of a UTI that wont go away (except the last 2 episode 10/10/20, 10/13/20) she finished a dose of antibiotics around the 5th of Oct. 10/10 once she got to the ER an hooked up they noticed she was having a heart attack, released her on the 13th at 130pm by 10pm she was back in the ER with the latest episode. We have video of 2 episodes from June and the latest on the 13th. We need 2nd opinion most the doctors dont even want to call them seizures let alone acknowledge the symptoms at all. She had an EEG which showed she didnt have a stroke. The day after getting the machine removed she had an episode. From Feb - Oct 2020 she has had 9 episodes. None prior to 2020.

I recently started having seizures in my 50's & nobody can figure out why. Why is it so hard to determine a cause?

@@michellelivengood3272 Don't let their ignorance cause you to be embarrassed. You are not alone and there is always hope to get better. I went to school with a girl who often fell and convulsed from her seizures. Today she is a wife, a mother and doing very well!! Let me tell you this to.....Jesus heals!!! Every time you have one, speak out loud how Jesus died so that those who believe on him can be absolutely free from these things. ❤

How are you now? Are your seizures under control? Any tips for recently diagnosed patients?

Epilepsy is a disorder ! Yet siezure can occur in way not talked about hear. A stomach disorder causing meds to vomit up can almost guarantee at least me a siezure !! Same time confuse a doctar into changing dosage rate to patient !! Patient he suffers cause no stomach med for problem was found !! This is from a proactive supporter in raising funds for epilepsy yearly.. Thanks!

I have had a seizure disorder diagnosed since my thirties but now in my sixties they occur like yawning attacks... very different from gran maul. They are subtle and concern me even more than the violent ones I used to have. I don't trust doctors. Their medications jacked up my entire life and I believe are responsible.
