Oh this is great! My daughter devoured the 9-book Tuttle Twin set. I think she'll enjoy this too. I was looking into an American History book series from a certain curriculum company because it was supposed to be in a narrative style, but looking at the sample, it still seemed really dry. It talked to the reader, but still very textbook-like. I did not see myself enjoying reading it aloud to my kids.

Interesting! My hisband just purchased a book from The Tuttle Twins based on Jordan Peterson's 12 rules for life. I had never heard of The Tuttle Twins before that. I'm so intrigued to learn more. Thanks for the recommendations!

I thought about reading this aloud and have the kids read the Josephine Pollard books to go with it.

Any travel tips? We are seasoned travelers but usually take off from school work. But this year I have to make multiple trips to help my mother care for her parents. One long trip is too much on family to be gone for months so I've decided that multiple trips for 3 weeks each is best. But we have never had to take school materials with us before or had to set time aside for school while away. Most likely me and 3 kids will be sharing a room and bouncing between my moms and grandparents 4 hrs apart. I'll do 3 week trips and come home for a few months and go back. But if health situation changes I'll have to extend my stay. Hopefully I won't need to stay longer than 3 weeks at a time until late spring or summer. My kids are good about independent work but I had trouble with a big project taking up too much of my time last year that I felt the little ones didn't get enough time in. If I take too much time off when we travel or get home settling in I'm afraid we might fall behind. But unfortunately I can't be with my mom and grandparents full time and just have to do our best. They are 2,000 miles away. If u have book recommendations for reading to elderly too I'd like a book recommendation. Especially for the anxiety of aging and illness. My grandmother gets anxious when she she can't do things herself or her health is falling.

Yes, Dale Carnegie’s How to Stop Worrying and Start Living, is an excellent book! It has riveting, inspirational stories with how to suggestions.
I would just keep it very basic with math (if bringing all the Saxon books is too much, maybe an online math program to make it much easier with grading, correcting etc). Writing in a notebook/journal daily and you correcting maybe 4 times a week, Quizlet on an iPad for vocabulary and reading whatever great books you have available wherever you’re at.
For Littles, maybe something like Ron Paul’s math 1 and Reading 1 and copy work, with math key wrap ups for facts and books you can read aloud to them.
I wouldn’t add anything else. Sometimes the life event, like caring for your elders IS the lesson plan. Hugs, you’re doing a wonderful job!

What year does this book go up to? The cover says 1776, but the sample pages seemed to be talking about things that happened much later. I'm super interested in using this as our history curriculum.

Up to 1776 but the little side notes will compare things to modern times for kids to better understand.

Unfortunately my 6th and 8th graders didn't like this history book. It really frustrated my 8th grader, in particular. He said he didn't like that it was basically a story telling a story about history. My 6th grader was just "meh" about it. We've shifted gears and are reading historical fiction instead. I like Karen's idea of adding biographies, too.

Don't need to shift gears to get Fictional history. This stuff is tripe.

Hi Samantha, Connor and I are both practicing Mormons, but the company is a non-profit, so none of proceeds go to our church. Also our goals with the Tuttle Twins have nothing to do with exposing people to our religious opinions. Thanks for asking and I hope you'll give them a try.

I think you are a nice lady. I hope you don't mind me giving you some advice. The most important class in school is history, economics and government. If you do not have good government you will loose everything and may even loose family members. Very few places around the world are free. I would recommend you teach history with an emphasis on preserving liberty. Choose books on classical Greece and Rome and on England. The Anglo American political tradition is dying and so too will our freedoms. The United States is a Federal Republic with a written constitution not a democracy. As the ancient philosophers would tell you democracy is one of the worst forms of governments. In world history, you want to teach why Civilizations Rise and Fall. In American History, you want to teach the US constitution and analyze how not following it makes us less free and less prosperous. This will allow you to cultivate in your child the intellectual ability to participate as a citizen in a Republic to preserve liberty. You must teach your child the state and federal constitution. Be careful, many books are written by the establishment to mislead. I have studied history all my life. Knowing which books to read is challenging as you might be utilizing books that tacitly make your child endorse socialism.

Beautiful comment, sincere and respectful. I think if you yourself look into the Tuttle Twins you will find the ideologies as very similar to the ones you have laid out. So I have confidence she is on a path for her children, that you would appreciate, as God Willing, they will become, truly educated members of society.... and not self-absorbed puppets.
She also mentions mentions in the comments Ron Paul's curriculum, which you can also see is right along the same lines you have mentioned here.
If you haven't already you MAY be interested in giving the John Birch Society and their magazine, the New American a thorough looking into as you may find a lot of support and a roadmap for actionable help in spreading the Truth about our country.
Art Thompson has done a lot of great research into the founding of our country and has noted about the infiltration agenda beginning even SO long ago! The devil NEVER sleeps!
God bless and keep up these respectful and truth revealing comments! We need more of them!
