    Great review! I was really looking forward to this video, so thanx! :) I bought these MREs on Amazon.com and they were sold by a Military Surplus in Arkansas and after I watching gschultz video on MRE shelf life (and how to check) I checked the orange sticker on the box and it had been stored properly. I was a little disappointed with the appearance of the fried rice and the entree. I thought the fried rice would be more like Chinese fried rice (from a restaurant) and the entree would look less like Deny Moore beef stew, but I'm glad it tasted fine over all. :)

    It's always confuses me when you say "entrée" in here, Quebec, it is like small snack/portion you would eat before a meal. Like a small salad, bread with cheese (and whine), some restaurant have cheese sticks, chicken wings and onion-ring as "entrée" to share at the table with your friend.
    Anyways i like watching your videos, i watch them when i eat alone so i don't feel lonely! HA!

    • @KiwiDudeMRE
      @KiwiDudeMRE  9 років тому +4

      ChaoSSxRiot That's what entrée means here too. I only call it the entrée because that's what the U.S. Military calls them. Occasionally, you'll hear me say "Main" as that's what I would refer to it as outside of a review ;-) Great to hear you're eating along with me.

    +kiwi dude you mentioned the safe age for eating MRE's and I thought you might like this. According the the U.S. Army Soldier Systems Center in Natick, Massachusetts (Natick Labs) the potential storage life is entirely contingent on temperature, and is as follows (temperatures are fahrenheit/Celsius order): 120/48.88-1 month; 110/43.33-5 months; 100/37.77-22 months; 90/32.22-55 months; 80/26.66-76 months; 70/21.11-100 months; 60/15.55-130 months.

    As a parent, there's something unreasonably gratifying about seeing a young child eat well. Maybe something about the reassurance that comes with knowing they're going to thrive for another day. On your videos at least, the Boss seems to makes it easy for you.

    • @hamsack981
      @hamsack981 8 років тому

      this is not eating well...... it's a ration ,not something your suppose to eat every day. they have ALOT of preservatives and a shit tone of salt. if you think this is healthy plz stop feeding your kids stoffers lasagna and go see a dietitian.

    I think my tax dollars should pay for kikkoman soy sauce or teriyaki sauce packets like you can get at Panda Express. Or even spray dried soy and teriyaki sauces to cut weight. That might have helped with the blandness Kiwi.

    • @KiwiDudeMRE
      @KiwiDudeMRE  9 років тому +4

      ***** I agree. Soy sauce would have been much more appropriate than a salt sachet. A sachet of chili flakes would have taken it to the next level too.

      PREPFORIT Cheers. It would be great if the ration designers around the world occasionally exchanged notes and took the best parts from each. It's hard to comprehend just how vast the differences there are in certain areas (as you say, rice and ration heaters to name two).

    Hey kiwidude. In many of your videos I couldn't help but notice the boss' awesome Thomas the tank engine eating utensils. I was way into Thomas the tank engine as a kid. But as far as I know the show hasn't been very popular here in the US since the early 90's. Is it still very popular in New Zealand? Or just popular in your house in particular? Either way, I'm very jealous of her utensils.

    I did some testing to try to make the coco beverage powder and I think I got it. 10g coco powder 30g sugar 20g milk powder for a 8oz or 225ml glass of water. Then again I could always buy nesquick powder. Note this is to my taste and this is approximately what it would be like.
