    This kit was supplied by RacingLine to me to fit for an article in VW Driver magazine for which I'd have been paid approx £200 (by the magazine). Unfortunately the magazine went out of business before the story got published. However even though I won't gain from making this video financially I decided to go ahead and make it to share with you what a good product this is.
    We will never endorse products on this channel which we wouldn't buy ourselves. This kit is something we can have total confidence in which is important considering the job it does.
    We have not been paid to make this video in any shape or form.
    We welcome offers of other products for us to feature on this channel but as stated above, we will only review items we would purchase with our own money.

    This is brilliant, ordering a kit for my MK4 Polo GTI as we speak!

    I assume great for track work when swapping rims over constantly- great advice on modification as I really struggled to get wheel off when my RS265 had a flat front due to chunks of concrete dropped on the road by a construction truck - temporary spare also was only suitable for rear use as doesn’t clear front Brembo calipers so had to place rear rim on front then temporary spare on rear - total pain

    where can i get loctite 2422 from?

    Do the standard plastic VW bolt covers still fit over the new nuts or do they have to be discarded?

    • @volkswizard
      @volkswizard  5 років тому +2

      Good question. The new nuts are 19mm so the caps don't fit and they look a little less tidy as a result

    I was worried my Ed35 looked crispy underneath @4:52. This video puts things into perspective haha.

      They are prone to cosmetic corrosion of the suspension components. That's why I always treat my cars with ACF-50 as per my Up! GTI video ua-cam.com/video/JJAt_vkvw4I/v-deo.html

    I find the Loctite in this kit a bit troubling. If I were the chief development officer of RacingLine I would have designed this kit so as to leave one bolt per wheel unchanged as a safety feature in case the Loctite fails on the studs. The nuts for the remaining four nuts would be 18mm so as to use the plastic nut caps and give a cleaner finish.

    • @volkswizard
      @volkswizard  5 років тому

      I am sure Racingline will have considered all eventualities when bringing this kit to market. My view is that the Loctite is actually the safety feature, they would probably work perfectly without it. Bear in mind the nuts would have to work loose for the stud to unwind and that isn't something that happens when they are torqued up correctly.

    • @mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm420
      @mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm420 5 років тому

      @@volkswizard The problem would arise when the nuts are undone. Electrolytic corrosion between the nut and wheel can create high torque loads which can be transferred to the stud mounting.

    • @volkswizard
      @volkswizard  5 років тому +1

      @@mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm420 Interesting. If the torque required to undo the nut was greater than the stud into the hub, wouldn't it just unwind the stud from the hub instead of undoing the nut? Not ideal but at least you'd know the stud would need reseating and new loctite.

    Does this kit fit the mk4 platform?

    • @volkswizard
      @volkswizard  5 років тому

      Not officially as Mk5 is the oldest listed on the RacingLine site but they also say that it fits cars with bolts of the size M14 x 1.5. As far as I am aware Mk4 has the same bolts as later cars. Please also not there are two types of nuts, one for OEM wheels which has a rounded shank and one for aftermarket wheels which is taper.

    VW Driver mag gone out of business?
    What happened?
    I’m gutted. I’ve been buying that for years.

    • @volkswizard
      @volkswizard  5 років тому +1

      Thanks 👍 Sadly yes, went out of business in Feb. Partly due to Audi Driver International losing its October slot and partly due to insufficient ad revenue. A real shame as far more niche mags survive but the quality of VW Driver was very good hence why VW UK were happy to distribute it via the dealer network but it all cost money. Oh well..

    So what if I change by rotors...do I now have to heat up and break loose the racing line bolts every time I replace my rotors. It’s fitted to the rotors right?

    • @mitch9894
      @mitch9894 3 роки тому +1

      Pretty sure the studs are biting into the hub not the rotors. So just undo the set screw and the rotor should slide of the studs.
