    Any time you have key on for awhile on Tacoma, charge warning will come on’! Even with new battery and full charge! Mine has done it since day one!

    I just did my own 5k mile service on my 2020, yes due to Covid I’ve only put 5k on my truck in 18 months. I took it to the stealership first, read the paperwork after and it said they only “check engine oil” Toyota manual says they only replace every 10k... science probably supports it, but my meticulous nature can’t.

    Glad to hear the warning message is not an issue. I'm just like you when it comes to Toyota doing oil change, I double check everything lol. I usually watch them from the window while working on my truck and I've seen when they get a lot of distraction while doing the job, so they can easily forget something. Great feedback man. Love how you share all your experiences with the Tacoma. Keep them coming man!

    I'm only 3 minutes into your video and I can tell that I'm not going to take my 22 Tacoma into any dealership for anything. I'm going to do my own oil change and other stuff that regular people can do themselves. I have a 6 Tacoma standard cab 4 cylinder and 5 speed manual transmission and Toyota always would contact me because of a spiral cable that was a recall and I instantly thought. That's BS. And then they tried to get me to come to their dealership again claiming that my floor mat might get tangled up with my foot and then the gas pedal will go to the floor and cause some kind of problem. I can figure out that kind of stuff for myself. So I never took my 6 Tacoma to any dealership. Now I still have this truck and it is perfect. I fixed a few things. Myself. All maintenance. Myself. I don't put the rubber on the wheels but the guy who did put my front end alignment out of adjustment. It was perfect when I showed up to purchase 2 front tires. I've learned over the years that it's better to fix your own stuff. All stuff. I'm 57. I learned when I was 22 to do all of my own wrenching. I had a 1973 Cadillac Coupe De Ville and I asked a small shop if they would grease my driveline and I told him that the driveline was brand new and it needs to be greased because the joints are brand new. He said ok 20 bucks. Well I should have watched him I guess because there are 2 U joints on the rear and 2 joints on the front. Long story short. He greased one in the rear and one in the front. By the time I drove 75 miles to Santa Cruz the driveline started squeaking and I knew what it was and I was Pissed off. Now I'm 57 and I've never took my car or motorcycle to a mechanic. Never. Trust me. Learn how to do your own stuff. You will be better off. Larry out

    They listed the type of oil used but did not list the oil filter. Perhaps thats why the underside shield that covers the oil filter looks untouched? Unfortunately dealerships have been know to cut corners by changing the oil but not the filter. Hopefully that didn't happen to you. Nice video!

One thing I have noticed - my engine must be breaking in. I drove 40 miles in a mix of driving and got 28 MPG, and 22.5 overall. I don't drive crazy, but I also don't mope along. Hmm...

    Your service breakdown, was very interesting today. I had an oil change at 2,272 miles, on, 4/13/21, (truck bought last October). My paperwork showed a different page to yours. It's called the, HVAC System Refresh Service, my paperwork showed a box, in red, saying, this item should be serviced annually, to reduce odor from A/C vents. This is a cost, (to me), of $60. I declined, as, I live in Pa, and of course, haven't used my AC, since my tacoma purchase. A representative from the dealer, even phoned me at home, two days after my oil change, to ask if I had reconsidered having this done. I again, refused. As to the battery warning light, I do think Toyota needs to change the messaging for this warning, coming on, as it does, after using accessories, it causes a needless panic, to drive straight to a dealer, as I did, for no reason.

    • @RobMotive
      @RobMotive  3 роки тому

      Sounds like a money making scheme for the dealership. I've never heard of it. Given the reaction I got when I asked about the charging warning light, I'd say many have had the same concern as me. Definitely needs to be explained in the owners manual.

    Hey Rob, hope all is well. I always take my car to the dealership for oil changes between 3k and 4k miles. About a day after two or three oil changes ago, I was going to paint the skid plate. I went under the truck and was trying to figure out why I could see the oil filter. Hmmmm, something doesn't look right. Right, no skid plate!?! I call and speak to tje advisor and he says that people are finding parts missing on their trucks at home or at work. That could be the case, but I yelled BS. The truck is always on my garage or atwork which is gated, under the watchful eye of armed Federal Protective Services. He "spoke to his manager" and said, this is what we'll do for you. Of course it's replacing it, but I was ticked off because it "sounded" as if they're doing me a favor. I said, it's not a favor, but rather an inconvenience to have to go back for something one of the techs left off or some other nefarious activity at the dealership. Now, the 1st question I ask the service guy, who is usually who I work with is..how's that skid plate looking? He response now is I just double-checked it and Looks Great! Ugh.... BTW, it's always nice to hear your "Hello!!!" in the intro! Stay safe out there.

    I have another comment. I do not like the seatbelt reminder buzzer or Bell. I decide what I do I might not want to wear the seatbelt for whatever reason I have. Freedom is my reason. Why would Toyota care if I wear my seatbelt. If I crash and die. And the cops say well he wasn't wearing his seatbelt. Toyota is not held liable. Anyway. I hated the noise from the Bell ringing because my seatbelt was not on. I clipped the wires and now I have a blinking light on dash that looks like my airbag is disabled. I'm from the old school. I just put a piece of black electrical tape over the red blinking light. But I don't hear any bells or whistles or buzzer. Why would any automobile manufacturing companies put shit like that on their vehicles. Most people hate it. One more thing. One day after I purchased my 22 Tacoma SR5 truck. I removed the Toyota Badges and it looks great. I'm not going to advertise for a company that puts bells and whistles on the vehicle that I am paying for. As a matter of fact. Now that I don't hear the seatbelt reminder. I drive without a seatbelt. It's called Freedom. Think about it this way. What if you tried to tell Josey Wales that he needs to put some kind of strap on his body to keep him attached to his Horse. What do you think Clint Eastwood would tell you. I'm old school. If I hear any more bells or whistles coming from my new Tacoma truck. There's going to be HELL to pay. I'll be giving Clint Eastwood a call and I'm going to ask him what he would do. Larry out 🤠

  • @CharlesLScofieldJr

    Rob... Since my New-To-Me 2018 Tacoma is a Toyota Certified Used Vehicle and I purchased the Toyota Auto Care Classic Prepaid Maintenance Plan. Do I actually have to have the Toyota dealer do the oil change/filter changes? With my 2000 Toyota Tundra except for the very first oil change which I took to the dealer to have done and I provided the oil I wanted in it. I always performed my own oil/filter changes for the 21 years I had the truck. I prefered to use Castrol Syntec oil vs Toyota oil. I don't mind having the dealer performing all the other maintenance checks, but I like doing my own oil changes. That way if the drain plug leaks or the filter there is no one to blame but my self. I had a bad experience with a dealer that a mechanic that was performing a recall for the front engine cover on my 1996 Mustang took a short cut that resulted in the engine having to be replaced. From that day on I never liked dealer mechanics. I always took my vehicles to my brother-in-laws shops for repairs and maintence. There are two types of mechanics, lazy ones and tired asses. A "Lazy" mechanic does the job right the first time then he doesn't have to do the job again. The tired ass mechanic doesn't care. My soldiers used to laugh when I told them I wanted them to be lazy.

      My dealer wouldn’t change my oil at 5,000 miles. They do maintenance every 5000 miles for first 25000 miles, and wound up just checking fluids, and routine checklist. Wanted to rotate my tires for me, but I installed K02s so couldn’t take advantage of that either.
