You should never use scissors to open packages. Cardboard dulles blades almost as fast as wood. You should use a utility knife with a replaceable blade
If you don't have Goo Gone for the stickery gunk, both wd40 (or is it DW40? I always get the letters mixed up) and olive oil have worked very well for me. Just be sure to wash with a little soap and water afterwards.
