  • Kate and Kava explore a cave FULL of the rhyolite nodules known as thundereggs. The steep climb up to the rocky cliff is difficult and hot, but the views from the top are more than worth the effort. The end of Day 2 of Kate's Great Rockhounding Adventure.

    That was cool!!! I guess all those caves were dug by people looking for thunder eggs? Wow!

      Dustin, I don't think so. I think the caves have to do with areas of softer material eroding out. If I visit again, I'll figure out a safer way to climb up to them and check it out.

    i now exactly where you are and i have bee n in that cave before. we have removed many beautiful thundereggs from this cave. they are buried in the dirt up at the closed end of the cave buried in the gravel.

    Thanks as always for sharing. We were there for the 2nd and 3rd of July this year at a couple mines around three finger gulch area, beautiful but extreme country there. Hiking that steep hill is not very much fun IMO other than to see that thunderegg "waterfall" coming over the ridge as the bed/seam lays tilted to the horizontal. FYI...better eggs on the other side of the hill as most outta that seam on this side are "rotten" inside~ Thanks again for sharing! PS..that area is also chock full of different types of birds from prey up to predator.

    It looks like your gas tank plug is out??? I would've given you a like anyway as I'm enjoying your vids - but you definately get one for hiking up that mountain - you go woman! We don't have anything like that in NZ so I really appreciate your sharing the beauty.

    Wow, to the extreme! Some of those shots reminded me of images seen in western movies I watched as a kid. Beyond that this is a great reminder of just how small we really are in this great world we have been gifted.

    Just found your videos and I'm really enjoying them. I just got into rockhounding recently but I have limited mobility so I enjoy watching you go to different places because it gives me an idea of if I would be able to access it or not. I'd really like to see you do a series on easily accessible places to Rockhound. Keep up the good work. Rock on.

      I think this is a wonderful idea! Let me know what “accessible “ looks like for you!

    • @inacastillo7696
      @inacastillo7696 2 роки тому

      @@KatyDidRocks For me accessible means places that do not have a long distance to walk, no climbing up or down rocky or slippery slopes. Thanks for considering my suggestion.

    • @KatyDidRocks
