  • We enjoy our EGO 56V 21 inch mower but the blade will dull very easily. In this video we show you how to sharpen the blade without causing the blade to become weak. A common issue that will let you know that the blade needs to be sharpened is the mower not cutting every blade. This will be corrected with a sharp blade.
    We sharpen our EGO mower blade every month. It helps to cut better and keep the grass healthier as it does not tear it when mowing.

    I have had this mower for about 3 years now. I used to have a commercial grade Honda mower. I like this over the Honda one for many reasons. But it didn't cut as well as the Honda. With this I many times have to go back to get everything. I ordered a new EGO blade couple months ago and the new blade resolved the problem. The cut is very clean now. Big improvement from the original blade. So I definitely recommend getting that blade if you are experiencing problem.

    Wanted to sharpen the blade on my Ryobi 40V brushless mower but didn’t know how to.. thanks guys, you saved me from making a mistake: it would have used a grinding wheel instead of a flap wheel!!

    I use a belt sander and keep it parallel to the mower blade, that way it takes the same amount of material off in one hit. Place the blade in a vice. I find this method useful as it doesn't heat the blade up as much as the angle grinder method. Because the belt sander is so flat it makes a very neat and professional job of the task all round and is a lot quicker than other methods that I have tried. Eger EGO Fanatic. Cheers from Brisbane Australia.

    I just got the EGO Mower and think it is a great mower compared to my old Toro Recycler gas powered mower. I think the blade needs to be sharpened right out of the box. I noticed as do many areas on my lawn which it seems like the mower misses many blades of grass. I never had this issue with the Toro. I noticed the EGO blade doesn't have the notches which entice mulching like my Toro blade either. Curious why they didn't do that? I am going to follow your suggestions for sharpening. My old Toro blade I used a grinder and a file and tried to get the blade very sharp and it cut great. But you are right the EGO blade is thinner and probably designed to be so for less weight for the electric motor to turn.

      Same for me, I have a new EGO and the blade needs sharpening right out of the box.

    I do the same thing. However I do make sure the Sparks go away from the blade towards the tip. I do this so the flapper wheel doesn't dull the blade. However, maybe my way isn't the best way. I sharpen often also. 4 times per mow. (Over an acre). Keep dem blades sharp guys.

      I try to always go with the flaps and never against them. So sometimes that makes it awkward.

    I do love my EGO mower but I agree, the blade sucks. It doesn't produce enough suction so any blades of grass that aren't perfectly straight up don't always get cut. EGO know about the blade issues and is supposedly releasing an upgraded blade this year.

      Keeping it clean and sharp helps the issue.

      High lift blade is a compromise more suction = more dirt/dust suction, also less power because of drag, less run time, more strain on the motor, the original blade pitch was designed for maximum runtime a key feature in any cordless tool. Its like changing pitch on an aircraft propeller[blade] same the principle applies.

    They do make a new high vacuumed blade that you can purchase off the Home Depot website. I've used the high vacuum blade myself and it is an improvement however it could still be better.

    Very important for electric motors (over more robust gas motors) Balance the blade after sharpening. Balancers are cheap.

      What? Working around a mower blade, you should always where cut proof gloves.
      Because if a bolt is hard to get off. It can easily slice something off.

    • @WorkshopAddict
      @WorkshopAddict  7 років тому

      You are correct. Gloves should have been a must. We do this every month to two mowers so we know nothing is tight, but that is when mistakes happen, when you get too comfortable.

    I just got my EGO lm2101 last week and got a decent Oregon 42-047 balance the blade. i also got a high lift blade to try out. First impression was that the blade that came with it was way out of balance and I was surprised that the blade mounting hole was round and there was nothing except the bolt tension keeping it from spinning independently fro the motor. Looking at videos it looks like the old model had a couple of "nubs" that protruded into the 2 little holes in the blade, seems like that was a better design.

      No with the flap disk and little pressure. I can touch the blade the complete time while sharpening it.

    You didn't balance the blade. If that blade gets out of balance it can be bad for the motor and dangerous for the user or other people around.

    Didn't realize the bottom of the deck looked so different than the v1. Is there a hole close to the screw that you can put a rod in to stop the blade from spinning when you use a wrench? Wondering if they got rid of it on the new ones.

    • @WorkshopAddict
      @WorkshopAddict  7 років тому +1

      Pretty sure there still is. With an impact, it is not needed.

      @@WorkshopAddict With an impact, if that blade slips out of your hand, you are going to lose some fingers.

    It is only the last outer inch of the blade that does the cutting the rest is just along for the ride.

    Mine cuts like shit brand new, bought a new blade and that blade cuts like shit too. Never in my life had this issue until i bought this over priced mower.

      I’m running into the same issue with my select cut ego. My old STIHL lawn mower can mow circles around the so called “most powerful “ lawn mower.
      Extremely overpriced for some that looks cool but can’t cut grass to save it’s own life.

    Get regular 21" blade from Husqvarna and forget about all that masturbation for good. And no, it is not heavier, thicker or dis-balanced.
