+mosh i was mostly referring to the old 2guygaming thing where he freaked out about "going to bed and waking up with a video f him playing it when he was half awake"
The song Dive to the Heart ~Destati~ from Kingdom Hearts is said to be haunted by even the developers of the game. They said that any time they got to the chorus of the song, something bad happened. At one point all electricity to the entire building was cut off when they listened to it.
Wow. It actually looks shittier with better fps. I honestly think it was scarier and had more impact when your movement/control was more limited too. Really hope it gets improved and tries to make an identity of its own, I don't think there's much point in a 1:1 recreation with PC controls and fps.
you should see the developer's blog of this game. it is extremely hard to rip the objects, NPCs, animations etc of the original game and he is currently very busy with college. It is a little shitty still but for someone like me that played 600 in-game days of the original one before this was even a thing, seeing this games brings me excitement. :)
Eh, I'm not too fond of the remake. Part of the reason the original game has such a cult following is that no one understands how the game actually works under the hood. Like how the game determines what type of dream you had, the flashing colours when you dream-shift, what locations you shift into and what texture set it has, if there are any alternative endings etc.
hmm... That is true. Even playing more than six hundred in-game days of this game, that FUCKING graph never ever made sense to me, same with the colors. I'm pretty sure the revamped will not be able to do such things, or maybe it will! who knows? I know the dev from this revamped game, he's pretty smart but busy with college. but this revamped is still cool in some ways to me, given the fact that it definitely gets some really interesting features such as: oculus support! ; a total remake of the textures the way you want it to be! ; less bugs / glitches and etc. ☺
+mosh Don't forget modding support, proper water emulation for people who don't own a PS1(emulators make the water flash rapidly), and being able to turn down the sound for footsteps so you don't go crazy. The modding support is super exciting, allowing people to add models and tectures and even levels to make even more surreal dreamscapes!

I think that’s a fair criticism. The thing is dreams aren’t so easily painted which is why the original looks like you just tripped out. We try to use our human logic brains to understand the meaning of those dreams but sometimes the dream is nothing but a jumbled mess which is accurate in the original.
I don't understand how the music in LSD:DE was copyrighted. It wasn't music - it was sequenced where the instruments were interchanged. It was always random. Same kind of sequence, but the songs were random. This would be like not legally being able to take a picture of a painting because the original artist copyrighted the order of the paints in their paintbox.
+Holgast That was an album with some music made by Osamu Sato... but the in-game's, there is like ~500 different songs possible. please see the developer's blog of this game for more info on that.
The music was composed by randomization, but each theme in the game is still a separate audio file. You can download the games "soundtrack" and listen to each individual theme, therefor, they are all indeed copyrighted. It's not like the game just whips up a theme on the spot, it randomly selects one of the 500 or so audio tracks available.
Its still a super early alpha. Im not super sure but i think on the subreddit /r/LSDRevamped that the mods of the subreddit were making it. Besides vinny says right at the beginning its not done.
Amiibo Charles yeah just tried it and there is soooo much missing this is not even good enough for Alpha. and they got the uppers and downers wrong. only red and blue not purple and green..
6:31 , I think Thai was the revamped’s attempt at remarking or just making their own gargle-step just like the original did.. I could be wrong but still, they kind of hit the mark in that regard.
The blinking red dot on the screen in between days drawers your eyes in very hard when you're tripping. and when i played it while tripping it was as if I was in the game. The designer was on very powerful drugs yes, but he's a genius.
LSD is/was one of my favourite game experiences. To me, the revamped version misses the point entirely. It will be interesting to follow, but like Hollywood remakes of classic films, it will always be a pale imitation of the original.
I'm sorry you feel that way! The game has changed a lot since the version Vinny is playing here, I'm planning to release the next version in about a month or so. If you're still interested I'd love for you to check out all the new changes on my blog; blog.figglewatts.co.uk
Figglewatts I will still follow it, no doubt. I also played a fairly old build, myself. The reason I felt that way is kind of an odd one. I just always felt while playing it that the modern control scheme felt odd. It didn't seem to fit the core experience to me. The clunky movement often caused you to bump into things you didn't mean to, transport to a different room without 100% wanting to. Like an actual dreamscape, you're not always in complete control. It's muddy and unclear and often you just have to take it for a ride. Don't take my criticism as a knock on your work or that I hate it or anything. I actually love that the game inspired this project and am very interested to see where it goes. To me, the original will still always be the superior version, but like I said, I'm biased in that it's my favourite game experience (since it really was more an experience than an actual "game" you know?) And just because my opinion of an early build is one way, doesn't mean the later build/final product won't completely wow me. Thank you for your reply, and I look forward to seeing the progress made!
Most of this game's soundtrack sounds like somebody recorded himself vomiting, then distorted it, and put it in a music sequencer. And the he just smashed the keyboard just the right way that everything sounded good. The god of absolutely horrifying music: Osamu Sato.
the remake is good and offers modding support and proper water textures for those who dont have a good emu or a physical copy, though the HD graphics really detract from the experience
Did you ever get a chance to stream Yume Nikki yet? Weirdest dream simulator ever, with a touch of Earthbound thrown in. It's actually pretty straight forward, and a little underrated if you ask me.
... yeah..... but think about it. Yume Nikki is really not a good game to be streamed. and personally it is a game made for one to play alone and concentrated. I just think that Vinny isn't going to give enough respect or something like that to the game, so I just prefer if he actually doesn't stream it. Same with .flow... since these 2 games are my favorites of all time.
Its a PSX game he's just playing it on a PSX emulator on the pc which allows you to play PSX. It's like any other Emulator like there's one that allows you to play ps2 games even nintendo games aswell.
I don't like the remake. It's so... fast. There's something to be said for pacing and the sense of unease that the choppy frames gave. I guess that CAN be a good design element in the right place.
I’m only 4 years late but the easiest way I’ve found to get a copy is either online now, or jailbreak a ps3 get Pkgi and import the correct files then download lsd
I'm skeptical Figglewatts can truly reproduce LSD, considering - while we know some fixed points about the game - a lot of the game is still unknown. By that I mean, how it determines certain factors. It seems to have some underlying complexity that we could only guess at for event generation and such, going beyond the self-corruption mechanic. And I mean, if you just throw all the events in and make them appear totally at random, you kind of lose the effect. Part of how the events come seems to key into the player's "mood" via their actions. Maybe the more you run, the more comfortable it thinks you are that you won't run into something? But in any case, you need a good bit of tuning to even try replicating what we don't fully understand.
Hmm. I guess I hadn't followed since Dez played long, long ago... My other concern though is Figglewatts is opening the game up immensely, cleaning everything. It sounds nice in concept, but I feel like what made the game have such a foreboding tone was the blurry, chopping, unpolished grittiness. It gave a sense of expectations the game always broke. Watching the current state, everything is so clean and clear, so much FPS... It feels sterilized. Like... like... those games like 2 years ago where the person based it around B horror movies, and so it had graphics and such that matched. It was pretty low quality looking, but it added to the mood.
I've implemented some shaders that make the game look about as close as I can get it to how it originally looked on the PS1. You can choose to play the game with or without them!
Figglewatts Ah, hi. I feel like we comment-chatted around Dez' time... I should also admit my skepticism over custom dreams and VR support. Custom dreams seem diluting of the formula, since the game was primarily based around the dream journal of a single person. Although if you feel the same, I'd hope you made custom dreams a separate set, so the original dreams wouldn't mix with others unless they copied them into the custom dream. I just don't want to see people trying the original dreams, then relatively soon after just doing custom dreams and never giving the originals a proper try. As for VR support... I'm not actually against it as much as uncertain. I liked the limitations of the game - it lent a tension to your ability to respond, not to mention your mobility can be limited in a dream (my dreams often have this issue, actually). It can work, but... you know what I'm saying: I feel like how the game's mechanics worked subconsciously aided the feel, so I'm afraid these changes might end up reducing the sensation you get in your head when experiencing it. But I do appreciate your work, don't get me wrong. I just want these concerns to be said. Old 3D games can freak me out without trying, but modern games are so free that they just don't produce that same tension.
Hey there! I remember you :) I'm making the original game the core experience. The game as you download (i.e. vanilla) it will be exactly like the original, if you want to make use of any of the new stuff I'm implementing you'll have to enable it in the settings, or download it from online! I'm committed to keeping the original dreams separate from custom content. I've implemented something which I call 'journals', and basically on the title screen you can switch between different 'journals' which determine what dreams the game will load. Mods will be implemented in the form of downloadable journals that are separate from the main game, you have to go into the settings and change the active journal to the downloaded one. And again, the VR support is optional. But let me tell you, the game is really something else in VR mode. Due to the current state of VR screen technology it actually makes the game look even more like the original, except it feels like you're actually there... That's about as good as I can describe it. But VR is definitely good for LSD :)
Figglewatts ~responds with a hug~ For some reason, reading you back reminded me of the game D for Sega Saturn. Narrative game, 2 hour time limit, no save or pause. Something that might interest you in your off time, although you'd probably want a guide if you ever want to complete it without repetitious practice.
why not just compile a bunch of psychedelic source engine maps, give them the teleportation on wall touch mechanic and just call that a dream emulator.
this just doesn't have the same impact that the original has. I get that it's a fan project to bring the game back with a new touch but it's just not scary anymore. I've played the original and you can't help the feeling of constantly being watched. and the limited controls adds to the game. the controls here remind me of Minecraft. it looks disappointing already
Vinny, check my vid of LSD Dream Emulator, you didn't have the correct renders and actually I'm pretty sure OpenGL is more compatible with PS1 GPU than DirectX cause you did have from drops and mine ran fine AND I USED MY PHONE AND ITS BELOW AVERAGE

It's a fucking Unity game...

The original version was released on the PSX. This version is a fan-made remake, which uses the Unity engine.

Getting a meme hack of mario 64 vibe with this version

I'm skeptical Figglewatts can truly reproduce LSD, considering - while we know some fixed points about the game - a lot of the game is still unknown. By that I mean, how it determines certain factors. It seems to have some underlying complexity that we could only guess at for event generation and such, going beyond the self-corruption mechanic.
And I mean, if you just throw all the events in and make them appear totally at random, you kind of lose the effect. Part of how the events come seems to key into the player's "mood" via their actions. Maybe the more you run, the more comfortable it thinks you are that you won't run into something?
