To weaken the Jedi was the main goal. But the secondary mission objectives were to create division between humans of the Core Worlds and the alien species and corporations that made up the separatists. The War was also to prime the Population and Bureaucracy while creating a military elite/culture.

  • @Bread-nx9fo
    @Bread-nx9fo 23 дні тому +65

I think a main reason on why the war lasted so long is because the separatists were dug in the outer rim, where a lot of these inhospitable planets were, like Felucia and Jabiim. The Outer Rim sieges lasted till the final days of the war. Planets like Cato Neimoidia, Saleucami, Mygeeto, and Felucia were constantly changing hands.

The CIS fleet that attacked Coruscant was ultimately an incredibly small percentage of the entire Navy, which, even at that point in the war, numbered in the millions. It was simply all the vessels Grevious could scrounge up from a single theater of the war that wouldn't be instanteously noticed. The battle wasn't important because of the damage it did in a physical sense. It was important because the CIS had been directly ordered to do so by Sidious/their true leader (with the rest of the leadership being led to believe it was a last throw of the dice, which in a way it was), which resulted in the Supreme Chancellor almost being kidnapped (which would, on paper, have resulted in the war going noticably differently), and because Dooku was killed.

Most people kept praising General Grievous of the 2003 series more than the 2008 series despite the fact that one in 2003 series depicted him as nothing but a force to be reckoned with and nothing more.
If people truly remembered the 2003 series, they would have remembered that Count Dooku instructed General Grievous that he needed fear, surprise and intimidation on his side along with his lightsabers in order to defeat the Jedi. And even if one element is lacking, the best course of action is to retreat. And General Grievous did just that in the 2008 series. He retreated when he knows when he cannot win against the Jedi.
As for why the war is being dragged on for so long, the answer is because Palpatine wanted to have everything under his control and to make the peoples of the galaxy believed only he alone can fixed all of their problems. And it worked really well when such strategy reached its peak that is the Battle of Coruscant.
Speaking of which, please bring in the quote from Revenge of the Sith's novelization about the Battle of Coruscant when the battle is featured on this channel. Please! Pretty please! I really love how the Battle of Coruscant was described in the novel!

    • @EmperorNapoleon1815

Grievous does invoke tactical retreats in the 2003 show, but he’s also shown as a competent warrior who shows no irrational cowardice or fear. He’s also shown to have a strategic and tactical brilliance akin (but not quite on par) with Thrawn. “Never have we been outmaneuvered by droids. His strategy is without flaw.” - Shaak Ti.
The 2008 show is disappointing because it weakens the villains for the first few seasons to allow the heroes to triumph in each episode, appealing to a younger audience. Grievous gets the short end of the stick because he’s the main villain in the first several seasons, and even in his later appearances, they never really give him back the dread intelligence and warrior skill of 2003 or the Labyrinth of Evil novel. That’s why the TotE appearance he got, limited as it was, was so satisfying. Grievous is a much more compelling character when he is used to strike fear in the audience - a brilliant general and dauntless warrior, a broken shell of his proud former self, hellbent on vengeance and ruthless in his prosecution of the Jedi he finds so hypocritical and weak.

I've got two things to add to this topic of "capturing leadership." One, Hondo Ohnaka has got to be one of the best pirates in A Galaxy Far, Far Away, as during the Clone Wars, he managed to (at one point or another) capture Count Dooku, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, and Ahsoka Tano.
Second, the Gungans on Naboo did manage to capture General Grievous with the loss of but one Gungan, General Tarpal, who had sacrificed himself in order to injure and disable the cyborg general which enabled the rest of the Gungan Army to overwhelm Grievous and restrain him. However, the capture of Grievous was not part of Darth Sidious' plan so he ordered Count Dooku to capture Anakin Skywalker, which Dooku did with relative ease. Dooku would then use Skywalker as a bargaining chip to trade for Grievous. This trade was not made with the Republic's knowledge, instead it was done in secret with Senator Padme Amidala which, essentially, makes her a traitor to the Republic and a hypocrite as she condemned Anakin for betraying the Republic in order to save her life, the same thing she had done to save his.

I have to agree with my colleagues. Grievous was done dirty by the clone wars cgi cartoon. And the third movie. He had the potential to be a terrifying character and they instead made him into, as another commenter said, a job. To be beaten and sell how cool Obiwan and Anakin were.
The clone wars cgi show was fun but it suffered from being a kid show where the bad guys couldn't truly triumph at any point.
There was never really any stakes.
My favorite was the original clone wars cartoon/mini series. Even if its animation was a little cartoon network-y.
When Grievous butchered the jedi and soloed the Ark troopers, THAT was intense.

But ig the story telling with the colours along the with the colours of their blaster fire and the holograms, could explain the switched symbolic colours. But i am not sure if it makes sense for their banners on the map aswell. :/

One of the novels (I think it was republic commando series) explain how the war dragged on for so long. A mandalorian sargeant complained that they have a small but well trained army. They should use it by driving a wedge through separatist space, straight to their core worlds. But instead Palpatine was spreading them thin all across the galaxy in an attempt to hold ground. In hindsight, we know palpatine did exactly that. He spread the war to as much of the galaxy as possible, so that when he took over, it would be a total takeover.

I must admit, this posed a very difficult explanation. Obviously, in war, things get missed, so reversals were prevelant. Also, despite Palpatine's manipulations, not everything went his way. In both the senate and the battlefield, the chaos could not always be controled. Despite events, corruption in the senate and other institutions, caused mayhem in rear areas of the war.

  • @EnzoVinZ

The long war was necessary to place each pieces on the table where they needed to be. When Palpatin executed Order 66, each Jedi was vulnerable and were eliminated at the same time. He kept the war going for as long as it take until the final piece, Anakin, go to the dark side.

@@BeyondDaXWrecked is a strong word, but Kenobi was the Jedi most uniquely qualified to defeat him. Offense gets you nowhere against Grievous. Well, it does get you somewhere, but generally “skewered” is not a destination of choice. Grievous, in a brief confrontation with Windu in Labyrinth of Evil, causes him to disengage and retreat, aw he was thrown off balance by Grievous’s swift mimicry of Vaapad. In the RotS novelization, however, Kenobi’s patience and impenetrable defenses are developed more than in the film, and ultimately explain why he was the single greatest match for the droid general. In fact, I would go so far as to say that he was better suited for the task than even Yoda, which with studying all the available material is not an outlandish claim in the slightest.

Really grateful we got Clone Wars by Filoni, the last episodes when watched in chronological order is awesome. Bad Batch is also a great show that really brings the pax imperial order how it worked, the imperial senate under Palpatine, the gradual influence of Governors and Admirals taking over senatorial duties. Recommend anyone to watch Clone Wars, Tales of the Jedi/Empire, Bad Batch, Andor, Rebels and Ahsoka in chronological order, its awesome and really shows why Star Wars is great. Filoni loves Star Wars EU bringing in Thrawn and many things from the KOTOR Games. Very sad shows like the Acolyte ruin the brand creating countless ragebait videos on YT that makes people think all SW is bad.

Honestly wars can last for a very long time something, Russia is proving with their overwhelmingly stupid levels of stubbornness just picture how long a galactic scale war could last which could potential last for centuries, at least on top of numerous other factions that could just instigate the war to last even longer Potentially propelling it to last for over 1000 years because it would be a big galaxy lots of vast space in all directions, technological and strategical opportunities they could really make such a nightmare last for a very long time possibly without end.
And that’s on top of numerous civilizations, species, cultures, religions, factions, It’s curious how the clone war or the Galactic Civil War even had a conclusion, considering the vast population of the galaxy and all of the armed factions that would attempt to capitalize on the chaos and obtain as much power and influence as possible. Something that people forget is that this isn’t a universe where everything takes place on a single planet, where people are more afraid of wiping out their own species from a single skirmish on a planet. This is a galaxy with a much much higher population than anything we’re familiar with.
Considering this on a much larger scope, there could be chances that such wars could last indefinitely simply because the government leaders refuse to give in or at least want to capitalize on the war and try to make it into a profit or a way of life in order to cement their influence or power over their faction/government And use fear or propaganda to control the civilians.

Real answer: Because George Lucas, and later Disney, wanted to milk the animated series for as long as possible and pumped out 8 seasons.

Seems odd to leave Alderaan off of the map...it did still exist at this time, after all.😢👎

    is this video a joke?
    it only lasted 3 years.
the guy who started the war controlled both sides, which means it would last however long he wanted it to.
also your title can't be grammatically correct.
