I have had my 2009 v6 since 2011. I never wanted it but wife did so we bought it. I have replaced the both hvac blend doors, transmission, 2 clutches, the thermostat housing like 3x, a lifter, a water pump, radiator, the starter 2x, both front calipers, and today I went out and the driver side rear caliper is locked up and I have had to replace the driver seat because of the wear on it but honestly I have about 180k miles and it still starts everytime just needs small repairs every once in awhile.
I always wanted a 2005-2009 Mustang. Because of the look, I never wanted the GT, but really wanted the V6. I own it now. My dream car. Would never trade it for anything. 🦅👍🏻😎
Would you say the later 2011-2014 V6 Mustang would be an equally good deal? The newer ones can be pricier, but the 2011-2012 V6 Mustang is starting to creep around 10K as well You could split the line with a 2010 V6 Mustang since it has the 4.0 with the newer styling, but 2011 was the start of the 300hp 3.7 V6
In my opinion a stang Camaro charger & challenger it don't make sense to buy it if it's not a V8 what fun could you possibly have with any of them cars with a V6 no fun
Exactly. The purpose of those cars is to be a V8. People buy the V6 cause they're cheaper and the newer model cost as much as a older V8. I'd rather have a older V8 and have the purpose of the car than a V6 cause it looks newer.
My 2004 Volvo s60 shit out on me it had well over 350000km with tons of issues. I only got it for 2k $CAD. So I drove it into the ground like you do with your first beater car. I finally found a 2009 V6 Mustang with 150000km at an affordable price for me. (Only 20) just put a word in with my insurance company and if all goes well I'll be the proud owner of my very own stang. Every excited :)
@DVJFan stock to stock the 3.7 is faster from a dig while the 4.6 is faster on a roll... but they're Mustangs so mods have to be thought of when choosing a platform... and the 3.7 not only looks newer (which might be to the liking of the buyer) but it has more potential than a 4.6
@DVJFan ok bud, this ain't getting nowhere. Btw I just want you to know that I'm not talking out of my butt, I own a 2009 GT/CS and I'm part of a Mustang Club called Redline Coyotes. All the things I have said have been out of my personal experience not something I read online or saw on UA-cam.
I think it's funny someone mentioned that the 3.7's are better. While they supposedly are like 95hp difference. My stock 4.0 with only a slp power flo can pull on them. I was impressed enough to keep up with a 2010 gt 5.0. I wish I filmed the couple of times I've raced them.
I have been thinking about getting one for a project car. But I have a lot of shops telling me that the 4.0 V6 will only hold about 400 to 450 power with boost before it starts having issues. They say that the 3.7 litter V6 will hold up to 550 to 600 before having issues. Just the opinion of 4 different shops that build boosted V6 mustangs.
The 4.0 is a cast iron block and has forged internals this engine is the same as the shelby gt500 terlingua minus the supercharger. Its not a bad car at all shelby owned this car as a daily driver and a great track car.
I mean if you want the 4.0 v6 enjoy having low 200 horsepower stock. I just bought a 2011 (first year of the 3.7 cyclone) v6 for 9 grand with 47500 miles great condition no exterior problems and it runs 305 horses stock. Just wait and get a 3.7 it’s a really fun and reliable car
I bought a running and driving 2006 Ford Mustang GT from auction for $3,700 after shipping tax and fees, smog and registration it came out to $5,900 and it was ripping the streets. And all that at the age of 17.
but still people like me around, so my mind was not changed. I just don't like V6 motors, they produce almost as much power as V8 cars now yeah.. but use almost as much fuel from my experience. making them feel kind of pointless? loved my 3.6 Cadillac, but felt it would have been better with a small V8, and a mustang? I just would not be able to bring myself to get a V6 Mustang. because I just like the whole thing of having eight cylinders.
4.0 did not come with an optional 6speed. Also 0-60 demonstration was a gt. V6 did not have the kind of instrumented cluster. Throwing a turbo in a v6 will make a difference but will severely damage the engine in the long run. There isnt enough upgrades to the 4.0 that would make that model a long term car to have. Could do the 5.0 swap but....might as well buy a gt if your not swapping it yourself. V6 great daily driver can handle itself perfectly but want more power maybe comp cams. Save your money a little longer buy a gt in decent condition for 5-7k buy a 5.0 salvaged coyote engine for 4I with 40000 mi. Done. Buy a gt with 130000 mi still looking at 8-9k see where the savings are.
I have added some horses to my 2008 4.0 Mustang. Has a lot of after market options. I like the generation 5 over the generation 4 for two main reasons. #1 The 4.0 engine is a big step up over the 3.7 slug in the 4th gen. #2 The 5th gen is a bigger car and looks a lot better then the 4th gen.
I highly doubt a 4.0 with bolt ons will keep up with the new edge 4.6 that 4.0 is a waste of money but kids like the way they look.. now the 3.7 v6 is pretty cool.
Yea I had a 3.7 V6 new edge I threw headers and full off road exhaust with a tune and it was pretty fun but for pure power the 4.6 V8 isn’t bad for quickness like my 02 GT
one word: Terlingua. A 2007 Shelby Terlingua (stage 2) was a supercharged 4.0 Mustang that made 370hp. No joke, look it up, it literally just had a Vortech/Paxton supercharger and dual exhaust (among other mods like supsension and brakes), and was meant to be a way of giving V6 Mustang owners hope of having a fun Mustang without having to get a GT. Then Ford did it themselves in 2011 with the 3.7, but the Terlingua was still faster than that. In terms of stock Mustangs, only the 5.0 Coyote was faster than a Stage 2 Terlingua
Very nice. I own a 09 4.0 V6 mustang when I bought it in 2012 it was way cheaper to buy a V6 and mod it then buying a gt for an extra 90 hp. I have bolt on mods and suspension mods, 91 oct tune and 100 shot wet Nitrous system. The 4.0 and 3.7 are good reliable platforms the 4.0 is limited in the aftermarket world in comparison to the 3.7 But the 4.0 is a cast iron block and can handle boost very well. The 4.0 is amazing in the sense that carrol shelby had released a Shelby CS6 4.0 V6
An 05-09 v6 is turning out to be a great daily (I'm only 20) Plan on putting a true dual exhaust on it. It'll tide me over while I work on my v8 s10 Xtreme project truck
I got divorced, traded my money pit BMW 335D for a S197 V6 Mustang, Surprisingly I really didn't feel like I had that much less power. Also plenty of inexpensive mods. Tomorrow I'm installing a BKK CAI and Pypes Street Pro axle back exhaust.
DT4400 it’s weird, sometimes the gears change super smooth, and other times I can’t get it into first. The clutch is pretty stiff too. I’m not sure if that’s normal, but it does make constant start and stop a workout. I love the car, I just think the previous owner messed her up some.
I own one (points to avatar) a 2007 V6 coupe pony package but with the GT's front grille and bumper cover (I bought it that way) oh and they did not have a 6 speed those did not come out till after 2010.
There’s nothing reliable about the 4.0, because once that third timing chain gives out the motor is coming out, the 4.6 3 valve is bad as well with the phaser problems but that is owner neglect with the oil changes so it can be prevented. But those 4.0s aren’t the guides and tensioners will give out at one point and then that 2 or 4 grand u spent on buying the car will go up another grand or so if u take it to a shop and swapping the motor isnt easy since the rangers and explorers that had the 4.0 and also had 4x4 have a fourth chain on the vary bottom. It’s better to stay away from the 4.0 save more and get a 4.6 if u want the first gen s197 but understand what ur getting into don’t just jump into it.
I’d rather pony up a couple thousand more and buy a 350 or if you still really really reallyyyy wanna go with a v6 stang then then get the 3.7. Both the 3.7 stangs and like 06+ 350s are like 6-7k
Could have had a 06 v6 5 speed s197 for 700 bucks and it only had 106k miles on it arranged a time to come pick it up and they sold it before I got there people piss me off
I absolutely hate Ford's single overhead cam 4.0l V6 because if the passenger timing chain breaks you have to pull the engine and I just bought an 05 V6 5-speed
i think the v6 s197 is a great car but in terms of building it, its not worth it in that regard. its the best daily driver ever produced by ford imo tho. theres just not enough aftermarket support to make it worthwhile to build.
Killerives Menace depends how old you are and if you are an experienced driver I’d say if you have 135000 go for a GT but you would have to account for the high insurance, high amount of money on gas and the power that comes with a GT, if this is your first car or you are a young driver go for the v6 first, see how you like it, save that other money. (Probably spend around 5-7k good condition V6 Stang.) If you like it and money isn’t an issue go for the GT.
How many miles can someone expect out of a 07 mustang. My dad found one near my house with 126000 miles and we’ve been debating weather it’d be worth getting
lol lol That’s discrediting a lot of work I had to do to the car, I had to weld my own roll cage, install a turbo kit on it, replace the whole rear end with a GT rear end, redo the brakes and suspension with coilovers and power stop brakes as well as a bumpsteer kit and a hydro e brake with duel calipers, the list goes on.

For a slightly higher price, you could get an 05-09 GT. Really if you're going to get a V6, Get an 11-14 V6 with the 3.7L Cyclone. 305 Horsepower and tons of fun. And price is decent too. Got my 2012 V6 Premium with 113,000 miles for 7,500.
This guy knows exactly what I was thinking lol I already own a S197 but thinking of adding two more to my drieway! The amount of options that come with upgrading and customizing are vast not to mention affordable. Good job Mr.Random good job!
Waiting on taxes
I got my taxes and got a 2006 mustang GT
I bought a 2010 v6 mustang as my first car, and it’s impressive for non car people. But when I pull up to a car meet I get hoed I’ve only changed the exhaust system to a true dual, to have that nice “mustang” growl
I found a 2000 mustang gt with 125k miles, in a amazing condition honestly I love the car I got very lucky I got it for $1,500
U my friend got a greal deal
I agree 200% with you man. 20 years ago their wasn’t much you could do with the v6 cars be it mustang or Camaro. Nowadays cheap turbocharging is readily available and with a little no how you can have something different, hell you can throw a 2j into one of these things or better yet an sr20 and really piss people off. Hot ridding is all about taking your car and making it into something unique and bad ass and screw what other people think.
The 2005 to 2009 and 2010 V6 are good if you just want a daily driver car that looks good. I'd rather go for the 2011 to 2014 Mustang 3.7 V6 instead. It's the best of both worlds in performance and economy and worth the extra cash.
I just bought a 2010 with a 4.0...new body style.. Old 4.0. And u know what. I regret nothing.
Got mines for $1,700 07 5 speed 4.0 needed a clutch that costed $1,000 added Flowmaster 40s Duals and few other things I wanted to upgrade. I’m at about $3,000 and man best deal I ever got in a car in my life. Looks great and easy to mod
He was right. Jan of 2019 was the time to get a V6 05-09. Fast forward to the 2021 car shortage and a decent mileage Premium (especially with the uber cool Pony package) is stupid money!
I got 2006 v6 5 speed shorty headers. true dual exhaust. Just replaced both cam chain guides chains etc new clutch freshened up the engine crank bearings rod bearings . Rings Honed cylinders same pistons. Front rear ma I seal. Head gaskets and valve stem seals. Airaid,, Thornton state 3 chip 4:10 gears. And she is a whole new animal. LOOKS beautiful and.not a dog in any way. Performancs. 5.0 people ask why not the. V8 I reply with why didn't you get the Gt 350.or the GT 500? I LOVE MY MUSTANG
This video intro was hilarious, and now im getting one
I was stuck with the 6 speed manual civic si my dad gave me. But last month I bought myself a s197 ‘07 v6 mustang. It is fun to drive and amazing to look at, I love it! Owning a mustang like my father was always a life goal of mine. It may not be the Black gt he sold when I was born but my blue stallion has got some speed and she’s easier on the eyes
Or you could always buy a Crown Vic
4100lbs at just 250hp yikes!
Juan Sandoval
Ford when building the Crown Vic :"guys that is weight reduction?"
Dodge when building the Demon/Hellcat/RT/Challenger: "I have no idea. Hey, let me add more power!"
I beat a cop car in a race with a v6
They're not fast
The 04 and 05 CVPIs I have. I paid $600 cash each.
Agree! This is a really cool car. I have the black on black pony version. It's a beautiful car (the best looking s197 IMO). Fun all day.
I've driven one of these before. It was a family members and I was driving because she let me. (I'm 15) Even though it has 2 less cylinders the torque is still there. I would definitely want one of these for my first car.
I watched this just before I bought my v6 mustang.
Love the name bro and the profile pic
I own a V6 2006 Mustang, manual transmy, and man, I love it!!
just got mine couple days ago 5 speed manual from a guy who used it in summers with some suspension problems, just for 3000. im pumped to work on it in summers
I have a 2010 v6 just know you invest in getting a better suspension set up cause it’s not to the best but other than that it’s reliable and I get 15 almost 16 mpg and it’s my daily!
This is great lol. He read my mind exactly. ..which is why I just bought an 07 ..I love it.
I currently have 2008 V6 Base Model Mustang with Auto Trans!...I would like to do a Dual Exhaust Conversion, a good Tune up and possible Vortex V6 Supercharger upgrade to 330HP!...Also I am looking at Tires and Wheels upgrade along with Suspension and Brakes upgrade!
I've upgraded my Stereo system and put in some LCD Lightning Exterior a Interior so far...I am Just Saying!...God Bless!
I have a 05 v6 auto and I put on the pypes true dual mid muffler system and man was it an upgrade. 4.0 is pretty big for a v6 so it sounds awesome plus I think it added 10hp maybe not sure. It'll definitely hold me over until I get a 13-14 gt manual someday. Good luck with your build!
@@denniscampanella1816Thank You!...I too, am looking at the 2013/14 Mustang GT but with the 6R80 6sp Auto Trans!...When I was in High School I had a 66 Ford Mustang Coupe that I fixed up like a 66 Shelby GT350 Coupe!
There is a Company that converts 05 thru 14 Mustangs into a 69 Shelby GT500/CS, a 69 BOSS 302, a 69 Mach 1, a 68 BULLITT Tribute Mustang and a 67 a Eleanor Tribute Mustang!...My favorite Mustang was the 69/70 Shelby GT500/GT350 Mustang's!
So I am thinking of getting a 2013/14 Mustang GT and having it converted to a 69 Shelby GT500/CS Edition by a company called Retrobuilt.com I can get a Whipple S/C Stage 2 to Boost the HP to 750HP that is 50 State Street Legal!...So you might want to Check them out, they are known as Retrobuilt Motors Today!...May you have Success on your 05 V6 Project!...God Bless!
BTW!...The website for Retrobuilt Motors is Retrobuilt.com They are also going to release Conversions for the 2015 thru 2020 Mustang's in the Summer or Fall of 2019!...I am Just Saying!

My '09 is closing in on 400k and still running like a dream.
I always wanted a 2005-2009 Mustang. Because of the look, I never wanted the GT, but really wanted the V6. I own it now. My dream car. Would never trade it for anything. 🦅👍🏻😎
Cool video. The V6 is also very fun to drive.
Yess sr 2007 v6 mustang that’s what I got
This is a great video I’ve been waiting for.
Would you say the later 2011-2014 V6 Mustang would be an equally good deal? The newer ones can be pricier, but the 2011-2012 V6 Mustang is starting to creep around 10K as well
You could split the line with a 2010 V6 Mustang since it has the 4.0 with the newer styling, but 2011 was the start of the 300hp 3.7 V6
Yes! The 3.7 is a good modding platform
In my opinion a stang Camaro charger & challenger it don't make sense to buy it if it's not a V8 what fun could you possibly have with any of them cars with a V6 no fun
Shannon CVPI I heard that the Challenger offers AWD with some V6 models. That could be fun if you reduce some weight.
@@no_4259 yea I heard about that a while ago but I think I would still want a V8 if I was into Chrysler junkie ass products
It could be a platform for someone who is wanting a car with high horsepower. 300 hp is a lot for some.
@@ShizaP yea u right it's just me in a performance guy so I'm trying to to max it when I buy a car
Exactly. The purpose of those cars is to be a V8. People buy the V6 cause they're cheaper and the newer model cost as much as a older V8. I'd rather have a older V8 and have the purpose of the car than a V6 cause it looks newer.
At 2:52 you posted the V6 I own
3.7l makes almost 100 hp more, even more bang for your buck! s197 v6 has been one of my favorite cars that ive ever owned
Would make a good first car
Totally agree with everything you said except the engine choice... the 3.7 V6 has around 300hp which is the same as the 2005-2010 V8s.
@DVJFan not from a dig, trust me I got a 3V 4.6. With a few bolt ons the 3.7L V6 is way faster maybe is due to it being lighter 🤷🏻♂️
Dude your highly exaggerating! I owned a4.0 and it won’t poultry on a coyote and definitely won’t hang with a gt lmbo!
Literally just bought a 2008 base bone stock v6 stang. Cant wait to get stupid on it.
You can still get a 2005 Mustang GT for around the same price though, in decent condition at least.
Nic Drake insurance is 2 or 3x more expensive though.
If you want to see how fast these cars can be, check out my review of my 09 mustang v6!
The 4.0 is a cast iron block and has forged internals this engine is the same as the shelby gt500 terlingua minus the supercharger. Its not a bad car at all shelby owned this car as a daily driver and a great track car.
Not true at all. Stock internals cant handle over 400 hp
Love the front end on the s197s... the rear bit so much...
Got mines last week 🤘🏼😎🤘🏼 2007 v6 $5000 with 102xxx miles. Is that a good deal?
Could of gotten a v8 with 5 grand
5pointoh i could’ve, i really waited but nothing was available 🤷🏼♀️
I agree I spent 2300 on a 06 deluxe and it’s fucking awesome
Done. Buy a gt with 130000 mi still looking at 8-9k see where the savings are.
i love my 2006 v6 so so much ❤
I have added some horses to my 2008 4.0 Mustang.
Exactly. Just get a stock V8 and be as fast as a modded V6.
I agree I wouldn't mind a 3.7 if I were to go with a V6 mustang
Futurist Weiner The edge edge v6 was a 3.8 and was probably worse then the 4.0... the 3.7 v6 is from the 2011-2017.
This video is the reason why I have one. For 5k
Very nice. I own a 09 4.0 V6 mustang when I bought it in 2012 it was way cheaper to buy a V6 and mod it then buying a gt for an extra 90 hp.
I have bolt on mods and suspension mods, 91 oct tune and 100 shot wet Nitrous system.
The 4.0 and 3.7 are good reliable platforms the 4.0 is limited in the aftermarket world in comparison to the 3.7
But the 4.0 is a cast iron block and can handle boost very well.
Brooooo meeee affffff lmao, just got 07 v6 alil modded im happy still doing stuff to it🤌🏾
I got divorced, traded my money pit BMW 335D for a S197 V6 Mustang, Surprisingly I really didn't feel like I had that much less power.
Also plenty of inexpensive mods.
Tomorrow I'm installing a BKK CAI and Pypes Street Pro axle back exhaust.
Just got an 06 manual a week ago
Hi. What is your impression? How smooth gear changing? How tough is the clutch in traffic jams, manageble for an hour traffic?
DT4400 it’s weird, sometimes the gears change super smooth, and other times I can’t get it into first. The clutch is pretty stiff too. I’m not sure if that’s normal, but it does make constant start and stop a workout. I love the car, I just think the previous owner messed her up some.
I didn’t even see this video when it came out and funny I made the right choice when I got my 09 45th anniversary v6 Mustang
Upgrade any car and most likely will be faster than a STOCK version of the same car. Throw the same mods on the GT and there’s still no chance
I’m gettin ready to buy great review thanks
Dude this video is so entertaining🤣 also useful
I’d rather pony up a couple thousand more and buy a 350 or if you still really really reallyyyy wanna go with a v6 stang then then get the 3.7. Both the 3.7 stangs and like 06+ 350s are like 6-7k
Could have had a 06 v6 5 speed s197 for 700 bucks and it only had 106k miles on it arranged a time to come pick it up and they sold it before I got there people piss me off
I’m 17 and got a 2010 v6 mustang for $7000 last year and I will say there not fast but fun
I absolutely hate Ford's single overhead cam 4.0l V6 because if the passenger timing chain breaks you have to pull the engine and I just bought an 05 V6 5-speed
Lmao I'm over here watching this video
While my 05 gt is parked outside
i think the v6 s197 is a great car but in terms of building it, its not worth it in that regard. its the best daily driver ever produced by ford imo tho. theres just not enough aftermarket support to make it worthwhile to build.
What would yo do v6 2005 mustang wit 135000 would you take it?
Well price would kind of be everything here how much does it cost
Killerives Menace depends how old you are and if you are an experienced driver I’d say if you have 135000 go for a GT but you would have to account for the high insurance, high amount of money on gas and the power that comes with a GT, if this is your first car or you are a young driver go for the v6 first, see how you like it, save that other money. (Probably spend around 5-7k good condition V6 Stang.) If you like it and money isn’t an issue go for the GT.
Make a before you buy the gmc typhoon and syclone vid. Thx
Cant find any turbo manifolds for the v6 mustang and i makes me mad
Ryan Woodard I’m the same way, I ended up buying a used Procharger for mine after looking everywhere for a turbo kit
@@luissaucedo1433 yeah it would be big in the market if they did though, but you cant go wrong with a procharge
Getting a 2007 today 😁 love the video
How many miles can someone expect out of a 07 mustang. My dad found one near my house with 126000 miles and we’ve been debating weather it’d be worth getting
I turned my 2004 mustang v6 into a daily driver/drift car and it was worth every penny
Daily driver drift car lmao doing open diff donuts in a parking lot doesnt make it a drift car kid
lol lol That’s discrediting a lot of work I had to do to the car, I had to weld my own roll cage, install a turbo kit on it, replace the whole rear end with a GT rear end, redo the brakes and suspension with coilovers and power stop brakes as well as a bumpsteer kit and a hydro e brake with duel calipers, the list goes on.
If you are gonna get an S197 v6 Stang might as well go for models 2011-2014... you know what i mean
I'm getting a V6 manual mustang because V8 too much power for my driver skill
How many miles is too much when buying?
I would still rather have the v8 sound though
V8 with comp cams, headers and cervini exhaust or borla
